Get the really simple app that reads text to you. Just paste (or drop) (or share) text into this app and it’ll start talking. It has a few settings (like speech speed and voice) and a few controls (like play/pause/rewind) and that’s it. Is it amazing? No. Is it pretty good? Maybe. Is it free? Yes.

Updated for iOS 12. Fixed a bug with the share extension. Now the app continues speaking from where you left off, even if you haven't launched the app in a while. And you can start speaking anywhere in the text by long pressing a word. And I probably added some other unremarkable features... but who can remember at this point? Sorry.

Added a setting to show how much time remains when playing text. It's a little crude, it's not perfectly accurate, but it's free! Woohoo!!! Look on the settings page for details—because it is turned off by default.

Wonderful and Totally FREE!
This is a simple, fantastic app that reads text aloud. The best part is a awesome feature most people will miss. In the help section of the app it explains its URL scheme. It’s a special URL that will automatically open the app but you can add anything you want to that url! For example, an article you want to hear and not read...use the Shortcuts App to get the web page text then automatically pass it via the URL scheme to this app and voila! No monthly premium charge!

Simple and effective text reader
As a writer, I really like this app for reading text. Great for the editing process to get a sound of the work in a different (and more flat) voice. It’s easy to use, can be used with a variety of writing platforms (I’ve been using it with Bear and Word). I can’t believe it is free!
