AndreaCNYC,
Needs a lot of work!
I noticed that the issue about the small print reported a year ago was not fixed. Also, I was able to add only one student (I have two children attending a PS). I suggest the menus are not uploaded as an image but entered into the system to prevent the text from being too small and difficult to read.
EatYourVeggiesEveryDay,
Great idea, little less great execution
Loved the idea of being able to check the menu at home and talking about what options to choose to avoid certain things.

The menu is not readable on a regular iPhone, only on iPad or computer. From other reviews this looks like an old issue that has not yet been fixed.

It would be amazing if the app + menu would clearly state which category cuisine a dish falls under. Like it’s often seen at good restaurants using little indicators next to dishes to distinguish them: vegan (Vg) / vegetarian (V) / kosher (K) / nuts (nut) / meat (meat) / dairy (dairy) etc. This would make it so much more manageable for many people.
TylerAvery,
See into the future?
I haven’t found a way to look at the next month’s menu ahead of time. It would be nice if we could see at least the first week of the next month to plan ahead.
I also agree that the print is difficult to read.
I also have two children in different schools and cannot log in as both.
It is very helpful to find summer meals and also to quickly see what the kids might have for lunch (as long as it isn’t the first of the month.)
CT731,
Language options don’t actually work when you view the food menu
When you open the app, it’s offered in 10 languages which looks so promising. Especially in NYC where there are many families where English may not be the primary language spoken at home. However once you select the language and then navigate in your preferred language, it just takes you to same exact English menu!!! What a fail for accessibility. It’s like they sorta tried to make it accessible to non-English speakers and then didn’t actually bother making it useful!!
CMSJPM,
Students would do a better job designing this app
Like others have said, the concept here is great (especially since the DOE no longer posts printer friendly menus on their website), but the actual app is AWFUL!!! I can’t even see the menus and currently it will not acknowledge my child because when I try to enter his birthday it only gives me one option: today’s date. Seriously they should give this app over to some kids as a coding project and it would be 1000 times better.
Rpc401,
Great idea, poor execution
Love the idea that we can see the school menus on the phone. But the print is so tiny it is impossible to see and gets distorted when blown up. Also, you can't go to the next month to view it, can only view the current month. Makes it useless as a planning tool.
TimothyLeung0225,
Low Quality
It’s understandable that NYC wants kids and their families to know what they are served on a daily basis whether you are a 7th grader or a 10th grader. Whatever the case may be, the menus are low quality. They are small and you can barely read them. Some might think it’s autofocus and will focus itself. It will not. The menus are pictures provided from their websites and the websites pictures are way better.
Swen Nater,
Great idea, terrible app
Super buggy. Impossible to access menus sometimes. Doesn’t recognize student IDs or birthdates.

Just one example of how little care has gone into this app is that January is spelled wrong in the rolling menu to enter your kid’s birthday. On the app it’s spelled JanGuary.

Hopefully the city didn't dole out a big contract to this developer. It’s a truly terribly implemented app.
Kidreporter,
Who designed this app?
Did they try reading the menu on their phone? What size phone do you think people have? Also, had to call schoolfood to find out which menu to look at. Leaves me with less confidence in school meals and public school in general. Also, every other reviewer has said the same thing so obviously they don't care.
ecs223,
Menu files are illegible
The concept of this app is great and overall organization is good. However the whole point of the app is to be able to read the menus on it. The menus images need to be rendered in a different format so that the end user can see them, especially when enlarging the picture. Please fix this.
