There are various under-the-hood improvements that should make Hala feel easier to everyday to buy all you want from people

To be honest, everything and nothing has changed.

While we have kept the same simplicity and features of Hala you know and love, we have also deeply improved how we talk about who we are so much that you may need to reinstall Hala to see us scratch.

After painstakingly talking to so many everyday Halians (Hala users), we worked with them to improve on some of our features especially with updates, wallet and profiles.

Updates : You can now support people and businesses you love by sharing their updates to your contacts everyday (Repost updates). This would help the people selling on hala to reach new audiences quickly and it's a way of telling your contacts you support their business in one click. Reposting daily updates of people and businesses you trust could be the difference between then making a sale that day or not.

We also fixed a bug that stopped allowing you attach prices to update posts.

Wallet : Old balances now show in the transaction history. Finally! We also fixed an issue where a small number of people were experiencing wallet crashes.

There is now a new way to fund your wallet - recharge pins. This works the way we bought airtime credit in the early days using scratch cards. Recharge pins can be used for multiple use cases; gifting, discounts and even funding your wallet without linking a bank card. These pins can be bought on Hala or at other places.

There are also some general improvements you'll see when you check your wallet.

Profiles : We increased the learnt for post captions so you can add longer descriptions to your posts.

Mention suggestions : We made it easy to recommend your contacts by showing suggestions when you tap people

Improved notifications : Tapping on a notification banner now takes you to the exact place in the app. Sorry this took some time.

Profile rings: We did this to let you know when people showcase things on their pages.

Post captions: You can finally now add captions to your posts on profile. This should have come since - I know.

Current balance now shows on wallet transactions : A top requested feature, all your wallet transactions now show the balance so you can track your old balances

Contacts list icon has been changed on profiles : This should make it easier to check people's contact lists to find mutuals

We can now change usernames faster: When you send us a request to change username, we can now do it much faster.

Wallet now times out : This makes your wallet secure. So when you leave your wallet idle, it locks it automatically.

We made some under-the-hood improvements also and a lot more are still coming. Please be patient with us.

Black is the new blue. Our brand has completed its transition to black and white to let the identity and colours of our businesses and creators shine.

We made various improvements to the app to make it easy for everyone to market themselves to whichever audience they choose; their contacts or everyone on the app.

The security of the wallet has been tightened even further without making it adding extra steps for our users.

In this release, we have changed more than our looks. We have redefined our identity and our business goals.

Here’s what’s new: **Hala is no longer a business app.**

Hala is now primarily a social app where members connect, chat and get updates with the option to send money to others. At Hala, we are intrinsically people-oriented and our goal is to build uncomplicated everyday tools for people to connect. Even as a social payments company, people are our first business and this is what the new Hala is about.

For emphasis, Hala is a simple messaging app, with easy payments; a social network optimised for digital transactions.

You can use Hala to post daily updates to your contacts, have conversations, send money and make payments without downtimes or account numbers. Imagine the ease!

What we have done with the new Hala is to remove the complexity and difficulty of financial transactions by making it as easy as having a conversation with friends. You add people to your Hala contacts without needing to share your phone number. You can send and receive money without account numbers.

Hala provides a common and valuable tool using a simple and social approach. Our easy payments feature opens up more possibilities for business and commerce on our network using users’ social networks and everyday communication.

The added advantage of Hala as a social payments app is the security of transactions. You need not worry about your money going missing, your identity being stolen or your privacy being compromised. It’s all very secure.

We encourage you to use Hala to make new connections, stay updated with your circle and get access to useful utilities. In this new phase of our journey together, we hope that Hala finds a new place in your everyday life.

What to do :

Add your friends on Hala without sharing your phone number, just give them your usernames

Update everyone with what's going on by posting on circle. It's a great way to start conversations.

You can now tag people in circle and even bios. Post pictures or your thoughts and tag people.

You can now add money requests to your circle updates. If it's your birthday, you are selling something or anything at all, add money requests and your contacts and easily send you the funds easily. Continue the conversation in chat.

Top with either a bank transfer or more conveniently by adding a debit card

Hala is now the best and most social way to connect, send money without feeling overwhelmed.

- It’s now easier for new users to setup wallet
- Phonebook friends is now recommendations, this way we can recommended verified businesses for you to connect to
- There’s an interactive banner on home. This is for various promotions, interactive or educative content.
- It’s now way cheaper to add money with your card
- The airtime app is now secured with a passcode

- Phonebook friends – you can now find trusted friends in your phonebook that are on Hala.
- Improved add connections page - adding new people to your connections is now clearer.
- Applets - We have added airtime applet to Hala, you can use it to get airtime in simple steps.
- Market - If you are a verified business user, you can now edit or delete your market posts + the scrolling experience is now better.
- Some businesses now have some automations with the [APP] badge.
- Updated landing screen to better explain Hala and what we are about.
- Improved wallet setup process.
- Fixed some issues with images on iOS 14.
- Improved the block user feature.
- We also made some under-the-hood improvements to improve the overall experience.
