Description

Show of Hands is a smart and fun community polling platform for people who love to ask questions and learn how other people think! As one of the oldest apps on the App Store, now in our 14th year, we have a loyal community of opinionated users who debate with each other daily on just about any topic you can imagine. You can answer new questions daily and see instant, real-time, anonymous results from fellow brilliant minds around the country. This information is broken down by age, religion, income, political party, gender, and more! (You can just think of us as your national level town hall.)

We ask the tough questions so that you can anonymously debate real world issues, and we ask the lighter questions because sometimes the heavy stuff can get exhausting, ya know? Nothing is off limits, and our community will help you level up your brain!

Do YOU have questions!? Have you ever been having drinks with friends-- or even just around the water cooler with coworkers-- and gotten their opinions and comments on something? Do you ever feel like their vote is just plain wrong?! (There’s NO WAY that more people like chunky peanut butter, is there?!) Build an anonymous Show of Hands following and publish your own polls to test if your opinion is in the majority! Ask your own questions about politics, ethics, pop-culture, humor, sports, health, news-- or anything else your brain can think of!

We challenge you to question everything!

why sonic why?!?,
Some thing really frustrating
I think this all is great. It is fun interactive and makes you really think. I do however believe something’s could be different. You can not post for 48 hours after you sign up or comment. It takes the fun out of the app from the get go. The character restraints while irritating really do not bother me until I get to messaging. I’m not sure the reason for the limit but it irritates me to no end and there is no counter to tell you when you are ending. And the last thing you can be typing a response and a notification come up from the app and your comment you were typing is just gone. To lower my irritations I began typing in notes then transferring being aware of the character count. And the last thing of you make a typo on a question you wrote there is no way to correct it. I will say that even with these inconveniences I still use is daily and I look forward to comments. It’s a great app overall just some things that bother “me”. Thanks. Enjoy.
Kal-El ,
One of my favorite apps!! Have a few suggestions :)
First off, this app is pretty amazing! It’s very informative and helps answer my own random questions as well. It would be cool to get more users so the results could be even more accurate but even 2-3 thousand votes on something tells a lot. I use this app just about every day and have learned some cool stuff! Some updates I would love to see are the ability to delete or edit comments, and to be able to turn off notifications for a thread you comment on. I ask for that because of a recent situation where an argument was going on in a thread and I posted a neutral comment like “there’s no point in arguing this..” but now my notification page has been filled with their ongoing debate for almost a week. Also, the ability to filter language (swearing) I don’t want to see would be cool. Overall it’s one of the best and most underrated apps in the store, great work!
TheGoodKid,
Lower quality over time
This app used to one of my favorites, and an excellent source of debatable questions to discuss with family friends. Trying to guess what % of respondents will say what is always a fun game to play. However, the app has slowly turned into just another social media platform. Many questions no longer have two actual answers, and are rather just "let's discuss THIS, are you participating or passing?" That's not what I come to this app for. And lately it is an endless, unavoidable stream of polls just comparing people's pet photos. I miss the consistent source of genuine this-or-that polls of different political and social topics; that's what made this app popular in the first place, and why I used to love it.

Unbalanced Right-wing Run-amok
This app has gone severely down hill over the years. While the developer does add updates periodically to address bugs and add “improvements,” nothing is going to fix the fact that the users of the app are mostly conservative, so the results to every right-slanted poll (and most are) just winds up being a majority of conservative group-think. Along with this, when anyone on the left cares to comment their opinion, they’re attacked by those on the right with a wave of disrespect and blatant rabid vitriol, called names, and even threatened at times. All of this is allowed to happen, even though it’s against ToS, and when it’s reported, nothing ever happens. Dare to ignore someone who is bullying and threatening you, and those same people will label you as pro-censorship, hiding, unable to debate, all too often, a snowflake.
Aside from the above issues, many of the polls are rhetorical, and slanted toward the right.
If you’re a liberal, I’d recommend against using this app, unless you like that kind of punishment.
If you’re a conservative, you’ll often get a free pass on whatever you say, so you’ll probably fit right in.
LingMu,
I enjoy this app regularly
I enjoy answering most of the questions posed and seeing how the answers break down by gender, age, political party, income, etc. It can be fascinating! I can also see which groups I am most like. Occasionally, there is a question I am not interested in, often actor-related, but usually they are relevant and/or fun. The wording of a few questions can be ambiguous, so I skip those or take the results with a grain of salt. It can be hard to ask a short and clear question on some topics and most people do a great job. This is one of the few entertainment apps that I have consistently used over the past several years since I first discovered it. I recommend it to any thoughtful and curious person.
Jmb Utah,
Longtime app user
I really love this app and the recent bug fixes corrected some of their more egregious issues.

At its core, the app is great. I used it for years just taking poll questions and comparing what I thought to others. Then, I started asking my own questions and commenting on other people’s polls. That opened up a whole new realm of the app and made me fall in love with it again.

The community is great. I hope the owners give it a good marketing push with the new fixes to regrow the user base. It’s shrunk considerably over the last few years.
mayamargetich,
Cesspool of Alt Right hatred
Liberals are outnumbered 2 to 1 by conservatives on this app, and the vitriolic conservatives berate and insult anyone who disagrees with them. Despite the terms of service explicitly banning hate speech, many users constantly spew hate speech and racism with no punishment, while users who speak out about this are silenced and banned by the right wing admin. Russian trolls and fake accounts run rampant, and there is even an obvious republican troll claiming to be a Venezuelan who “escaped socialism.” Multiple self-spoken nazis spread their hateful rhetoric unchecked, including users called “Luftwaffe” and “Deport Islam.” This app is not a place for any meaningful discussion, unless you want a far right echo chamber. If you are a liberal, do not use this app unless you enjoy being berated and receiving baseless insults from rabid Trump worshippers.
Rigby1952,
Painless social interaction
I use this app every day. It’s a quick and painless way to interact with others as much or as little as you like. It presents a series of poll questions about various subjects, some pertinent, some silly, some unfamiliar. Answer any or all of them. Add a comment if you wish, or just read what others have to say. Almost always gives food for thought. Very interesting to see how your thinking compares to others.
Attacking issue,
Been using the for over five years
Honestly this app is really good and have tons of interesting polls that I vote on everyday. BUT once you get into the comments no matter what the poll is, someone gets political and it just ruins the experience. Especially on literally any political and/or controversial post this community turns into the most toxic community ever. There are few people who are willing to have an actual dialogue and 9/10 comment threads devolve into people berating each other and resorting to childish name calling. If you want to enjoy the app, don’t go into the comments.
Banang1234,
SOH developers should be ashamed of themselves
This app used to be great for partaking in discussions ranging from politics to lifestyle. Most of the polls on the front page were made by the developers, and each user would have an individual voice. However, nowadays, the developers have most likely become lazy, because most of the polls have become “featured” polls created by other users. This normally wouldn’t be a problem if the developers weren’t promoting polls from alt-right users deliberately spreading covid misinformation and white supremacist agendas. The app has now become an echo chamber for such disgusting views, and the developers are actively promoting them. Developers should be ashamed of themselves.
