Here are some small bug fixes for those of us headed back to the movies!
4.5.1
2020-03-23
Added ability to display a message when the app starts up. This is critical now so I can communicate to you about the status of the app during a period of theater closures and service interruptions.

It’s a big update of small improvements!

I added dark mode support and tweaked tons of design details. The app should be easier to read, with new larger typography and more contrasty colors, and look better than ever.

There's also a handy new screen for getting a quick look at where a theater is at.

And, of course, the usual handful of bug fixes and performance improvements.
4.4
2017-12-17
Showings is lightning fast now! This is a huge improvement you'll definitely notice. It's also been reorganized around your favorite theaters. Just add your favorites once and you're all set.
4.3.2
2017-04-12
New! At the bottom of the list of movies playing at a theater is the new Theater Compass button. Tap it to send the theater to your favorite maps app.

Trailers are now available to everyone (yay!). They were an in app purchase before and that did not work at all ;)

Because Showings costs me a bit to run, I’m experimenting with a small ad on the screen you see while Showings is finding movie times. If you don’t like ads, you can remove them via in app purchase—tap on the circle-i button to get started.

Finally, Showings is being launched in the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

As always, if you have feedback or ideas I’d love to hear them. Catch me at @cliffwilliams on Twitter or email me at [email protected].
4.3.1
2017-02-06
This release fixes a crash that was occurring for some folks and tidies up how Showings handles some cases where there are few or no theaters.

Fixes:
– Crash that could occur when using a manually entered location that Showings can't find (not good! very bad!)
– Tapping the about button switches the location you search with to your current location (how annoying)
– Clips show up in the trailers section
– In rare cases, the details for a movie would never appear

As always, catch me via email ([email protected]) or on Twitter, @cliffwilliams.

This is a big release with two new features I'm excited to finally share.

Trailers! Nearly every movie you'll find in Showings will have a trailer or two on the screen with the movie description. Trailers are available via in-app purchase (which is a great way to support the app :) )

Full screen posters! Tap on a poster to blow it up. Finally, right?

I also improved the way the theme colors that you see when you tap into a movie are generated. Pretty colors.

Lots of bug fixes:
- When a request fails the app can get stuck in waiting mode (oof).
- Status bar doesn't change to white for dark movie themes.
- "Rated Not Rated" is dumb.
- App shows "Set a location" on launch when it's actually finding it for you.
- Canceling an active search puts the app in a super weird state (yikes).
- The message at the bottom of the screen where you can hide theaters was impossible to read.

As always, if you have feedback hit me up at [email protected]. Thanks!
4.2.1
2016-12-04
Two big improvements:
• Movies now have a star rating based on critic reviews
• Showings now finds more theaters (not enough? in a weird order? let me know!)

I also fixed an issue where theaters with lots of screens were not showing all the movies that were playing.

Showings is back (and considerably faster!) after some unexpected downtime. Sorry about that, folks!

This was related to the unexpected loss of a couple of sources of data. One of those, Rotten Tomatoes, no longer works with small developers. So, unfortunately, Showings can no longer show their scores for movies. This is a big bummer.

If you know of a similar service that scores movies based on critic reviews, let me know and I'll see if I can use their data.

Thanks everyone!
4.1.2

Lots of small bug fixes along with a few crashers. Thanks for the feedback!

Showings has been redesigned and rebuilt from the ground up. It's simpler, faster, and browsing by theaters is back!

Showings has been redesigned and rebuilt from the ground up! We're excited about the changes and hope you are too. As always, feel free to send us your thoughts.

In addition to a new look and faster guts, we've changed the basic way the app is organized. Now when you launch the app you immediately go to a single list of all the movies playing nearby. This means you don't have to pick theaters or scroll through all your theaters to find a specific movie.

Showings has access to a lot more data than before. You'll also notice bigger posters (pull down when you're looking at a movie) and lots more trailers. When you search (hey, that's new!) we're looking for movies that are playing nearby, in theaters now, and even coming soon.
1.3.7
2012-08-01
Fixed a small bug that could prevent new movie times from loading in iOS 6
1.3.6
2011-10-18
iOS 5 ready!

Don't like to see reviews? Turn off the Rotten Tomatoes score and review summary in the Settings app.

Movies displayed for a theater are now alphabetized.

Theaters now display in the correct order between launches (yay!).

Rotten Tomatoes data is now reliably shown for more movies.

All movie details are now shown for theaters in locations with spaces in the name.

In some situations, Showings would wait for up to 90 seconds to get a location from the phone's GPS. Now it will only wait up to 30 seconds.

Day picker is now displayed when resuming the app after having paused it on the search panel.

The animation into movie details now works in iOS5. Made it a little faster, too.

Fixed an error that could occur when fetching details for movies with YouTube trailers.

Fixed an issue where movie details would look weird because of extra spaces.

Showings now works a bit better with eastern alphabets, although western alphabets still work more reliably.

andhow42,
Good simple movie times app
All I want in a movie app is something simple with movie names, showtimes and a brief description. I don't want pop-up video ads, links to buy tickets, theaters I would never visit (HELLO, I'm not crossing the Canadian border just to see Star Wars). This app delivers that nicely, and is very appealing in terms of appearance and usability. My only wish would be for an IMDB rating next to each title, but that probably requires some expensive licensing agreement. So for now I'll just be glad I finally found a simple movie times app.
Sufi-Sister,
Dumped Fandango and went w this!
I love this app. It’s simple, straightforward and no BS. This guy’s a genius and a decent person for offering this to people. I’m going to find a way to donate money to this guy next. Thank you so much for giving us an app to find movies near us that works with no BS or upsells!
g giggity,
BEST MOVIE LISTING APP
It’s the best, plain and simple. If you don’t buy it you’re objectively missing out. Atom and Fandango are cluttered messes filled with ads. Atom is fine, but you still have to put up with ads.

If the following things were added, it’d be 100% perfect:
- ability to change color schemes and background
- seat maps
- ability to buy tickets directly through the app

Those last two things might be impossible though, idk if theatres have public access to stuff like that for smaller developers.
TheSatisfiedCustomer,
Great app, great beard
This app is fantastic.

I used to have the free TestFlight version, and I have to say, I was pretty upset when I realized it stopped working and I had to pay for this version. But it’s well worth it as it’s a game-changer for movie-goers.
Spyndoc,
Very helpful
This is a great app for keeping track of what’s going on at your favorite theatres. Not so good for browsing films in release or pre-release, because you start from the theatre, not the film. But for using your list of theatres to see what’s playing now, show times, etc. it’s great.

Best Movie Showtimes App BY FAR
This is everything I’ve ever wanted in a movie showtimes app. No ads, no news, no social media bs. Just your favorite theaters and their showtimes. It’s perfect. I cannot recommend it enough. It’s worth every penny. Buy it!!!
