Wild-West7,
SlideScan
I believe SlideScan does a great job. I’d love to see SlideScan tap into “Raw” someday as my iPhone can shoot Raw. We’re scanning 35mm slides which have a lot of resolution and if the scan resolution is not high enough, the results can only be so good. I immediately put the scans into Photoshop and try to put every ounce I can, into making the photos as good as I can possibly make them. It has been an interesting solution to a major problem of getting to see your slides. The best thing you can do is to invest in a Photomyne light board. I put my slides in archival preserver sheets made by Print Files. I put the entire sheet on the top of the light board…perfect fit! From there I pull out the slides I want to scan and go to the 3rd setting on the light board, brightest, and then brace one of my arms and take the shot on the App where it says Add. Personally I frame the entire slide to get the maximum focus! It does not like that I do that but, that’s where I see the sharpest focus. Good luck and happy scanning!
Kakcpw,
OK if you have no other way
The old adage once again should be heeded. If it seems too good to be true, then it probably is. These apps do great on printed analog photos. But on slides, not good at all. If you have no other means to scan your slides then this will give you a very low res, rough picture of your slide. I tried this against slides that I had already scanned with a fairly cheap Wolverine slide scanner. As common sense would dictate, taking a picture of a slide (even with an iphone 13) on a very bright white background will never get you close to an actual slide scanner. Even slides where the people are up close to the camera do not come out clear. They are all fairly blurred. And that’s where the sharpening tool supposedly comes into play. But this only changes the faces and makes them seem superimposed onto the picture with very little quality increase. Do yourself a favor. With what it would cost to pay the monthly subscription on this app for 6 months, you can buy a dedicated slide scanner that plugs right into any laptop and scans slides in seconds. And the quality is very good. 5 to 10 times better than this workaround app.
SlackerGamerMom,
Hidden treasures revealed!
We all know our print photos and even our digital photos reside in a photo Limbo land. Never really seen or displayed unless we actively prepare scrapbooks, photo albums or other various modes. The fate of our treasured 35mm family slides from a by-gone day undergo an even more dismal fate with limited ways to view them. They remain in a photo graveyard of sorts. But with this app not only do they come alive, they undergo a reincarnation! They are alive again. Not only can they be shared and viewed again and again, they are set to a slide show setting complete with music. Seeing my parents, grandparents and siblings again brings me back to the time when these memories were originally captured on film. They have all passed on now so enjoying these slides brings me joy in ways immeasurable. I love this app so much.

Useful but fussy
I’m happy to have discovered this app when I needed to do something with a collection of 20th-century slides. It does a decent job of capturing the images (including surface defects, not ScanSlide’s fault). However it is all but impossible to operate without the voice control unless you have some sort of stand to hold your phone steady while you press the shutter button for three seconds. So I’m grateful for the voice control. I just wish I didn’t have to reactivate it every time I return to the “Add” function. Why can’t it be enabled by default? Also, the control works inconsistently, sometimes doing nothing until I say “Go” up to four times, and sometimes being triggered by a background noise, giving me a random image of the kitchen table among the recovered slides. I wish the filter did more to remove reflected warm light (or a vague reflection of my hand and the iPhone) from the surface of the image, something I can’t seem to prevent while using a computer screen as a backlight.

Much Better Than Expected
I have thousands of slides that I have no idea what to do with? I thought I’d try this app to see what the quality was like and the ease of use. You could spend the money and buy the accessories and get better quality images but just doing it by hand quickly, lets you run through a stack of slides in minutes. The image quality is still very good and it is printable. It’s fun seeing slides that are 50 years old and the image quality is still remarkable. I would recommend this app to anyone and if you wanted to go crazy and buy the accessories, you could really get some fantastic image reproductions. I suggest to put a piece of tape over the silver Apple on the back of the phone to keep the reflection from showing up in the image.
SanBC,
Fun and Easy to use
I have hundreds of slides that I’ve put off scanning because it’s so complicated and time consuming. This app has made it so quick and simple to do and I am finally getting my memories saved digitally. I love that it gives me the ability to share the scans on my phone or my computer. You can go to a page on your computer to view or download them. You do need to pay for a subscription if you want to scan a large number of slides. It also helps to have a stand for your phone, since it can be challenging to hold both a slide and your phone without moving one or the other. So far I’ve been very pleased with Photomyne’s SlideScan app.
cupcakesandkale,
So easy
Surprised at how quickly it captures the image- even when I feel like I’m not holding it very still. The image quality is better than I expected. Two annoyances: I’ve scanned at least thirty slides, and just today it’s not finding the backlight at all, which is a bright white computer screen in a dark room. I’ve closed and reopened the app, and shut my phone down and restarted it but it never finds it. I can still go ahead and push the button and scan a slide anyway but it’s annoy to do it through the searching for backlight words. Second, I wish that when you scan a slide I could just look at it. When you touch the image it should just open it, instead of saying slide saved and making me go to the saved slides and open it there. After viewing it it should then say slide saved when you close it.
WokaWokaWoka,
I wanted to like this
1. But the app doesn’t support Macro mode on iPhone 13 Pro, so you can only get so close the slide, resulting in smaller, lower resolution captures. I actually got better, higher resolution results with Apple’s camera app. 2. Focus detection would help too, showing in-focus edges in a color, like digital cameras. 3. Cropping is a little too conservative; picking less of the image margins. 4. Adjusting the crop is possible but fussy. No way to revert to the autocrop after you adjust it manually. 5. It Would be great, since the app detects a backlight, if it would color balance it. I keep my display warm, and I noticed off-temperature highlights In the captures. 6. Would gladly pay the full price if quality-improving features were there. 7. Unfortunately, the developer response to this review missed the point of my criticisms, and worse, did not address the inexplicable lack of support for macro mode.
B3V$,
Great app
This is great. Had slides from my dad over fifty years old. Had them tucked away didn’t know what to do with them. Those other places you send them away to cost too much per slide. This is a life saver. Having so much fun looking through the old slides. Didn’t even have projector to see them. My kids had never seen them before. They couldn’t figure out why I was so happy to finally take care of my dads “slides”. How small is this slide that we never saw before in the house. Kids!?!? So easy to use also. My hand shakes a bit when I hold up the slide to computer screen but it captures the picture perfectly. Did I say I love this app. Best purchase ever.
Crack demon lurking,
Fantastic for 120mm not 35mm
Ok so this app is decent for scanning photos imo but not amazing.(I'm using an iPhone 13 Pro Max to scan) So I developed 200 iso 120mm film and came out great cus my phone was able to scan the bigger slides easy but 35mm came out blurry and I had 35mm 400 iso Kodak professional film and always had either the reflection of my phone lens or a yellow hue idk why the yellow hue is there but yea it is. I set up my Nikon d3200 and the slides are godly beautiful. So if you have 120mm film I'd say this app is great for beginners leading into intermediate but 35mm I keep having problems with maybe it's me maybe it doing something wrong idk I'm still new to film.

TLDR: good for 120mm and eh for 35mm Some photos show camera reflection and discoloration
