Description

Sneaker Tracker is built to help you track the mileage of your sneakers!

In case you didn’t know, I sure didn’t not too long ago, you should replace your running shoes between 300 and 500 miles of use. Your shoes cushion your body from the impact of running, but eventually this cushion wears out and your body will bear the full impact of each run.

This app exists because I didn’t feel like handwriting every single workout I did and how many miles I ran. Instead, I wanted my Apple Watch and iPhone to help me out. And so here it is, Sneaker Tracker!

By default, this app will allow you to manually log workouts. And if you give it permission, Sneaker Tracker will watch for new workouts you log into the Health app. Whenever you log a workout, you should assign it to the shoe you used. From there the app will keep record of your milage and send you notifications when you reach your replacement range.

Fine-Tuning Release

In August 2022, I had a vision for what version 2.0 of Sneaker Tracker would look like. There are a few things I'm still working on from that vision, but nearly everything I had hoped to build has been built.

With this 2.0 release, I've added one big new feature and then focused on fine-tuning Sneaker Tracker so that 2.0 can be a solid base to build upon for the future.

**Photos**
You can now take and store photos of your shoes. The sky is the limit for what you do with this. But in my mind I think it is a good idea to take a photo on day one of your shoes, then periodically take photos so you can see how your shoes hold up over time.

**Bonus Users can set Photos as a Shoe Icon**
A new perk of subscribing to bonus features is you can set the icon of your shoes to a photo now.

**Refinements**
*Workout View Refresh*
• In the last version, the Shoe View got a major refresh. Now the Workout View has been redesigned to match.

*Widget On-tap*
•When you tap on a widget, it will now open Sneaker Tracker to the Shoe or Workout displayed in the widget.

*Timeframe*
• In the recents tab, you can now group Recent Activity by Week or by Month.

• Previously, charts defaulted to displaying data by week. Now you can change it to display data by month.

*Top Shoe Definition*
• Also in the recents tab, you can now set the definition of what a "Top Shoe" is. Is your top shoe the one you logged the most distance in? Or is your top shoe the one you logged the most calories in?

**Misc Updates and Bug Fixes**
• I am continually hunting down a bug where duplicate workouts will appear. This is exceptionally rare, but I have heard from some people who have experienced it recently. This release does include a fix which I believe will fix that... but I need you to reach out if it doesn't. I haven't see it occur on any of my devices in months...

• I am pleased to announce that the One-Time purchase has been a popular option for unlocking Bonus Features. I will be keeping this option available for the foreseeable future.

The Redesign Continues!

Recents Tab
You can still find Unassigned workouts here, but now you can also see stats for how you are performing over the last two weeks.
The number of workouts, calories burned, distance logged, and top utilized shoe are all highlighted at the top of the screen.

Refreshed User Interface
The new user interface is designed to consolidate all of the activities you can do in Sneaker Tracker into a space that is easier to reach. Now all of the screens can be accessed at the bottom of the screen. You can also swipe left to right to switch tabs as well (even though you could do that before, it now is more obvious).

For Bonus Users
Advertisements will not be shown.

Misc Updates and Bug Fixes
I am aware some users are having issues with the app launching. This has been tricky to nail down because it doesn't occur for everyone. I have added Crashlytics to Sneaker Tracker as of this build to help find this issue.

But also feel free to reach out any time you have an issue, I'm excited to make Sneaker Tracker rock solid for everyone!

I hope you enjoy this update to Sneaker Tracker and feel free to reach out if any questions or issues arise!

A Redesign is Underway!

Instead of one massive redesign all at once, I will be rolling out this redesign in phases. This first redesign focuses on the Shoe Tab and adding Charts.

Charts
• With all of the data you are adding into Sneaker Tracker, its only fair to display that data in as many interesting ways as possible.

Redesigned Shoe Details Screen
• With the new charts, the Shoe Details screen has been redesigned to have sliding elements.
• Front and center of this new shoe screen is a redesigned Shoe distance chart.

For Bonus Users
• More Charts
• In the future, I will have more workout detection notifications to add for Bonus users... however this not working to my liking at this time so it is not in this update.

Misc Updates and Bug Fixes
• Sneaker Tracker warns you before your shoe hits it's maximum distance. You can now change where these warnings start and you can entirely disable these warnings as well.
• Found and fixed bugs related to editing a retired shoe.
• Replaced my Twitter profile link with my Mastodon profile link... awkward...

Simple Widgets and a few other goodies are here!

Recently Used Shoe
• The first widget is a widget that will find your most recent shoe and display it's current distance.

Recently Created Workout
• The next widget is very similar, it will find your most recent workout and display the shoe used and the date. For unassigned workouts, there is a special gradient overlay on the icon.

Selected Shoe Widgets
• The last widgets are a set of small and medium widgets to always display a specific shoe. When you add the widget to your home screen, long press the widget and a configuration screen will appear. From there you can choose the shoe you'd like to always be displayed.

Note About Metric
• Right now, the widgets do not capture your Metric/Imperial preference. If you long press the widget, you will get an option to edit the widget. In this screen, you can tell the widget to display in Metric. I am planning to fix this when I can figure out how.

The First of Many
• These are the first few widgets, but I want to make more. Please feel free to reach out and let me know what you'd be interested in having always visible.

A few bug fixes as well.
• Lots of bugs fixed related to how Sneaker Tracker finds new workouts.
• For new users, if you haven't attempted to enable HealthKit data, there is a button on the workout screen to enable.
• Added extra contact methods to contact me (in the Contact the Developer section of settings).
1.6.1
2022-11-25
Small bug fixes related to how heart rate and steps are collected, how backup files are created and restored from, and animation improvements for when data changes behind the scenes.

2022-11-11
This is a big one, but most of it won't be obvious.

Auto-backup
• You have always had the option to manually back up your data, now Sneaker Tracker will automatically back up your data. The backup files are stored in your iCloud Drive in the Sneaker Tracker folder.

An entirely updated Restore Screen
• Obviously with all the extra work with Auto-back up, I created a new screen that gives you more info about the file you choose to restore from.

New Shoe Picker
• When you assign a workout, you will be greeted with the new Shoe picker. This new picker gives you a visual representation of the shoe as well as additional details to help you know you are picking the right shoe.

Bulk-Actions in Unlogged Workouts
• You may have a lot of workouts not assigned to any shoe. Now, you can select several workouts at a time and assign or delete them in bulk.

More Colors available for Theme Color
• Previously you were limited to a few specific colors, now you can choose any color you'd like! Beware though, some colors don't work great in both light and dark modes.

An entirely updated data layer
• This is the first feature of Sneaker Tracker 2.0, and even though you likely won't see this in the UI, it is the biggest upgrade this app has ever had. Sneaker Tracker previously used a custom persistence layer but now Sneaker Tracker uses Core Data. This will become more important down the road for the next features I am planning, but for now you likely will not notice a difference at all.

And lastly, a few bug fixes as well.
• The Small Shoe Preview cell will now display distance accurately
• The Mileage Graph will now be yellow at 75% distance instead of 50%
• Various bug fixes on the Shoe Reorganization screen
• Various bug fixes related to showing HealthKit request, workout, shoe, and settings sheets.
• Many animations will be smoother.

More feedback, more updates!

I recently received feedback asking for the ability to reorganize shoes and that is what this update is all about.

Simply put, you can reorganize your shoes through the "Shoe Settings" in Settings. Or you can long press on a shoe and it will open a sheet for you to reorganize your shoes.

You have a few choices, you can stick with preset sorting like Oldest/Newest, Most/Least Steps, Furthest/Shortest Distance. Or, you can choose a custom sort and manually put the shoes where you want them.

Summer is here!... in the US

In celebration for summer in the northern hemisphere, you can now track hiking workouts.

Hiking workouts function exactly the same way as running and walking workouts, so nothing new to learn.

Otherwise, very minor update this time around. I've used this time to clean up a few other small bugs here and there.

Ask and you shall receive!

I received feedback on how this app is used for others and this update is all about applying that feedback.

First up, you can now tell Sneaker Tracker which shoes you always use for specific workouts. So if you always run outside in a specific shoe, Sneaker Tracker will look for new workouts that are running outside and automatically assign that workout. If you always run inside in another shoe, Sneaker Tracker will assign those workouts accordingly as well.

This feature can be found in settings, in "Workout Settings".

Also in Workout Settings, if Step data or Heart Rate data are not of interest to you, you can tell Sneaker Tracker to hide those data points.

Two more small improvements.

1. If Heart Rate collection fails, you will see an error alert, but now you will only see it 3 times and then never again. If you continually see failures after 3 times, please let me know!

2. Settings now uses "SF Symbols" instead of Emoji. I think it looks much better than emoji, thanks for the free design upgrade Apple!

And lastly, bug fixes.

A huge bug that I've been hunting for a long time has been knocked out. Previously the Sneaker Tracker would look like it was unresponsive for a few moments. This usually occured at first bootup and a lot of new workouts needed to load. Sneaker Tracker in that moment was thinking really hard and was getting everything ready. But now, Sneaker Tracker thinks more efficiently! It will load the workouts in the background and update itself.

Another bug was previously found when you delete a workout that originated from Apple Health, previously it would just unassign itself. Now it will actually be deleted. However, because Apple Health still has these workouts in existance, the workouts are never truly gone. In Settings, in data options, you can view Apple Health workouts that are "deleted". So if you want to restore these workouts, you just need to swipe to restore it.

And lastly, for those of you technically inclined, I have open sourced the unassigned workout color shift part of this app. It can be found on GitHub (search for ColorShift by SeekAndDefineBK). Right now, I believe ColorShift isn't very power efficient, especially if you have hundreds of unassigned workouts. However, I am working on making ColorShift more efficient but if you'd like to contribute I'd love to hear from you on GitHub!

The Version 1.2 update is focused on how your information is displayed!

In settings, you now have the option to display your shoes or workouts in a new compact view. This compact view shows you just the essential information about your shoes or workouts.

New to this version, you also have an option to retire your shoe. When you retire your shoe you still have access to see it at the bottom of your shoe list, but when you assign a workout, it will no longer appear in the shoe choices.

Next a few small updates, the Settings view now displays SF Symbols instead of Emojis. I tweaked the workout and shoe glow for dark mode to make the icons appear a little less fuzzy.

Last, but surely not least, new workouts will now display an animated color gradient until the workout is assigned to a shoe. If you like this effect so much you'd like to use it as your theme, you can update your theme to use this as well!

2021-11-10
The Version 1.1 update is focused on color!

The big new feature is you can assign primary, secondary, and sole colors to your shoes. By creating a shoe in the previous version, you already determined a primary color. At the time, that was the only color choice you had! Behind the scenes, Sneaker Tracker already created a secondary color, which is a slightly lighter shade of your primary color. And now the sole color is brand new, by default the soles of your shoe is white.

But you can change this, you don't need to make a new shoe to update the colors. You can edit your current shoe color by opening the shoe in question, tapping the Gear Icon next to the shoe name. In the next screen you will have options to change the primary, secondary, and sole colors.

You can even live preview the shoe colors!

More color also appears in the header when you select a shoe or a workout. The primary color of the shoe, or the shoe you used for your workout, is the color of the header.

Lastly, I fixed a bug where the color you select for your shoe wasn't accurate. Initially this was designed so that you could still see the color of your shoe in either light or dark mode if you happened to buy black or white shoes. Now, thanks to the magic of drop shadows and/or outer glows, no matter what color your shoe is, you can see your shoe or workout in either mode.

I hope you are enjoying Sneaker Tracker, please feel to reach out with any questions or feature requests!

pumpk1neater69,
Was working fine until i changed the date so i could get all my running workouts synced
The app was working really well until i changed the sync option to 700 something days and now when i open the app it crashes instantly. Might just reinstall the app and not do what i did but it's definitely something to look out for
gtg465x,
Easily the best shoe tracking app!
I tried four different apps for tracking shoe usage and this one was by FAR the best! Some apps only let you enter workouts manually, and some only let you select running workouts from Apple Health, but this app lets you enter workouts manually or by selecting a running, walking, or hiking workout from Apple Health. Plus, if you have some old shoes that you tracked manually or with a different app, this app lets you set the “initial miles” when adding a shoe. It also has an intuitive and nice looking UI, and is very usable even without in-app purchases, although I was happy to pay the small in-app purchase price to remove ads and reward the developer for making a great app.
Silian Rail,
Unusable due to crashes
App opened and worked correctly the first approx 3 times and now crashes after opening within 1 second. Completely unusable. I think the constant crashing is due to setting the workout option to 120 days.

EDIT: Others were having the same issue of you sync too many days. Keep the syncing time modest and the app works perfectly.
amundson0790,
Works great!
Started using this app when I realized how quickly shoes get worn out and were hurting my feet. App works great to track my varies shows at varies stages of use!

The developer is responsive to fixes and future updates.
gwcali,
Great app with mindful updates!
Tracks my sneakers without any fuss and syncs perfectly with my workouts. The latest 2.0 release is a nice update with some good sorting and UX updates. I'm glad to pay the yearly sub to support the dev.
Javiso,

Worked fine the last week
Now crashes on syncing workouts even after reinstalling app. Crashes on opening.
Merry merry Harry merry,
Crashes
Was working fine for about a week… now it crashes all the time! I cant even use it
oldmusic99,
Don’t be fooled by the 5 star review
The app does not work. Once you add a shoe and start syncing Apple workouts, the app will never open again; it continually crashes on start up.
