* Highlight action added in version 1.4 *

‘Speak Text’ action aka Intercom for Sonos
Similar to the Intercom action available for the HomePod, this action lets users to play messages (or media files) on any of their supported* Sonos speakers utilizing the text to speech features built into iOS, iPadOS and macOS and continue the already playing content after the message.

- Play/Pause/Stop
- Mute/Unmute

You can set it up by tapping ••• in the top left corner and selecting 'Connection issues or using VPN?'

Both S1 and S2 systems are supported, however all speakers need to be on the same operating system.

* 'Speak Text' action supported speakers: Sonos One, Amp, Port, Play:5 (gen 2), Beam, One SL, Move, SYMFONISK table lamp with WiFi, SYMFONISK WiFi bookshelf and all newer speakers using the Sonos S2 system.
* 'Speak Text' action works over the local network only.

Version history

1.4.1
2023-06-02
This quick release adds the following updates to the Speak Text action:
- New parameters 'Override Volume' and 'Volume'; volume of the announcement, message or audio file playback independent of the current speaker volume. Please note that Sonos may have set internal upper and lower limits for the volume level in order to prevent the audio clip from being too loud or inaudible.
- New Parameter 'Priority'; A High priority audio message can interrupt another high priority one if the latter has played for more than 10 seconds. A high priority audio message can interrupt a low priority one at any time.
- Notifications if incorrect file formats are being used for the URL and Audio File parameters. The URL parameter only accepts .mp3 files due to technical limitations. Other audio formats are supported by the Audio File parameter.
- Updated the internal logic of the action to make it work more reliably and efficiently.

Also updated the Walkie-Talkie example shortcut as it was returning an error in some cases.

Update notes from version 1.4:

Notes from from 1.1.11:
This one ended up being much bigger update than expected, but it has a lot of new and updated actions as a result. Hope you will find them useful. If you run into issues with any of the new or updated actions feel free to submit a feedback through the main app. Thanks!

*Fixes*
- Load Favorites (used to be Load Music) action initiated on the Apple Watch should execute without issues
- Load Favorites action supports Audible audiobooks
- Other minor fixes and improvements

* New Actions *
- Get Playback Information: Returns rooms (excluding members of any group since they are controlled by the group coordinator) and groups with the following properties added: Playback State, Playing Title, Playing Album, Playing Artist, Input, Current Track Duration, Current Track Elapsed Time, Track Number in Playback Queue.
- Get Rooms (And Groups): Returns all rooms and groups. Includes rooms which are members of any group.
- Get Playback Queue: Returns the current playback queue. Default limit of returned items is 5. This is due to that the 'Choose from List' action (probably most common use case to use right after) is really slow with more than 5 items added (iOS issue)
- Set TV Dialog Sync Delay
- Set Relative Volume
- Seek to Track: Skip to the specified track number in the playback queue if queue is already in use.
- Set Speaker Discovery IP: this action updates the IP address being used by the 'Direct Connect' feature to discover your speakers. You can use this if you have multiple systems (ie. S1 and S2) on the same network, for example, just before running the 'Get Playback Details' action.
- Get Favorites: Returns favorites from 'My Sonos'. Only returns items that can be loaded by the Load Favorite and Load Multiple Favorites actions. You can use this with the built-in list actions such 'Get Item from List' or 'Choose From List'.
- Load Multiple Favorites: improve the speed and prevent Siri timeouts when loading multiple favorites

* Updated Actions *
- Set Volume: added 'Ask Each Time' switch to allow dynamic input. The updated action also allows 0% as input now.
- Use Line-In: it shows both speakers in a stereo pair to select as input. (filtering to show only supported speakers will come later)

* New Examples *
- SonosBot: Lists rooms and groups with playback details and provides menu to choose various actions for the selected room/group
- Skip to Track: demonstrates the use case of the 'Skip To Track' and 'Get Playback Details' actions
- Airplay to All Sonos: groups all speakers and sets group as Airplay destination. You can modify this to group any set of Sonos rooms or ask each time.

Fr33 ch1ps,
Thank. God.
Grain of salt. Used 5 minutes so far.
….but has turned all my SoNo’s into SoYes’s SoFar.

My biggest pain in offloading Alexa to HomeKit was the extraordinary negligence in Apples volume options. There’s literally not a way to control volume on sonos by voice….not even with Siri on the appletv activated by the ACTUAL APPLETV REMOTE that has the volume buttons built in (understanding if you had the remote in hand it wouldn’t matter to begin with). HomePods….can control AppleTV great unless you want to send the hdmi command to raise or lower volume.

This app does all that and more (so far). I’m crazy about seeing the option to modify sub settings. I do it manually between movies and music to keep balance (particularly when it comes to Atmos content vs non atmos on Apple Music).

I was also hesitant about third party add ons because other shortcuts extensions introduce bugs to flush out in addition to the already-hardest-learning-curve smart system available. THIS ADD-ON DIDNT EVEN ASK FOR SONOS ACCOUNT CREDENTIALS. OUTSTANDING. It naturally needs network device discovery permission, but just worked. The UI of the actions is intuitive. 1 and done attempts with the first test runs.

Love this. Love it. Love my 5 minutes of childish excitement over something that solves a first world problem. In love. Love YOU (developer).
Speck378,
Great App - Adds Control to Sonos
This was a great find. I have 1 airport express that supports Airplay 2 and Sonos speakers all over my house. With this app, I can ask Siri to group the Sonos speaker connected to airplay to other rooms and then play music directly from my music app. So far it seems to work well, maybe a tad slow which sometimes causes it to time out. My one request for the developer would be to add Apple Watch support. These shortcuts don’t work with the Apple Watch, I get an error saying “could not run unknown action. This action requires an app to be installed”. Adding Apple Watch support would be excellent.
Thatdude156,
Simply amazing
I’m so glad I finally bit the bullet and got the app. I have used Home Assistant, Homebridge, and have a good understanding of programming knowledge so I’m not a newbie. I still believe that anyone can use this with ease if you are somewhat familiar with Apple’s shortcuts app. I have a full menu of Sonos control with just the tap of an icon saved to my home screen thanks to this app.

Keep the good work up and please keep this app updated with the latest iOS updates. Love it!
Perry the Penguin,
FINALLY Sonos feels smart
Seriously, how has Sonos not implemented all these features in their own app? I mean, come on. I can finally set a goodnight scene and have a certain speaker play music directly from Sonos, without needing to use AirPlay! Same with asking Siri to turn down the volume, mute or skip tracks without needing airplay! Seriously, this is feels huge and is a missing puzzle piece in making my smart speakers actually feel smart.
Claimed4all,
Easy to use Shortcut Maker for Sonos
Bought this to automate a few routines to make my Sonos experience better, and it has! Reached out to the developer with a few questions before buying and he answered quickly and helpfully. The app basically just opens up options when using the shortcuts app, and you need to have an understanding of how to make shortcuts to use this. It’s pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Would buy again.
Macollin,
Solved My Sonos Problems!
I have been trying to find the right solution for my Sonos amp since it takes far too many clicks to turn on line in (turntable) and the tv input. Now I have shortcuts on my phone and am able to have direct access to both functions with one click! Awesome app and with every penny!
Avielg,
Amazing!
New update VASTLY improved the speed and reliability, and makes the app from barely usable to must-have for any Sonos owner.
There is still way to go in terms of speed (eg flow of grouping all rooms, setting all of their volume and playing something takes about 5-7 seconds) but it is definitely fast enough to love the app and say it’s well worth every penny. 🎉
snookie1,
Must have for Siri and Sonos
I’m still learning how to use this and shortcuts and it would be nice if the developer could provide some references. With the news of the HomePod being discontinued a lot of people will e switching to Sonos like me but still want time to use Siri. It would be a good idea to cater to that group. Maybe some you tube videos?
IthacaiPhone,
Fantastic!
This app finally solves one of my biggest Sonos headaches! Among other things, it makes it very easy to create Shortcuts to create groups of Sonos speakers. For example nor I can just ask Sori to “group living room and kitchen” and it is done! Developer off right back to me when I had a question as well.
mschmitt23,
Great, useful app!
Adds much-needed actions to Shortcuts for controlling your Sonos speakers. I had a fragile system of webhooks and IFTTT automations to group/ungroup, play/pause my speakers. All those have all been replaced by this app. It’s simple to use and so reliable I forget it’s the glue holding things together. Great app!
