I’m a Latin teacher with a PhD in Classics, and I can tell you that the language supposedly taught in this app IS NOT LATIN.
Many of the words aren’t translated at all—the translation given for grapefruit is just “grapefruit.” There is no Latin word for grapefruit because the Romans didn’t have grapefruits. They also didn’t have bowties, anti-fungal foot powder, or half of the nonsense included in this app.
Even when a word *is* translated, the translation is usually wrong. Bank (as in a place to store money) is translated ripa, which means the bank of a stream or river. Airplane (which the Romans didn’t have) is translated vivamus, which means “let’s live.” And avocado is translated avjyoyu, which is just gibberish. There is no letter J in Latin, and Y is never a consonant.
As best I can tell, the creators of this app just ripped vocab from Quizlet without verifying any of it, because you can find many of the same garbage translations (including avjyoyu) in sets there.
Avoid this one like the plague, or better yet, download it and leave a 1 star review so that the rating will more accurately reflect how horrible this app is.
