Stack islands is a moderately innovative take on the stacking genre of mobile games. It is a lot of fun when you get going and start to make creative and high islands. Going through each new world while simultaneously getting better is a pleasure. The achievements also feel cool despite there being some bugs with them. The ad system is not intrusive which is great compared to other modern casual games.
However, the “new take” on the stacking game can hinder your enjoyment of the gameplay itself. The moving camera of around the island is one of the main problems with this game. Although it is there to show the sea around you, the player rarely sees anything besides a blank ocean. Over all of this, the biggest issue with the camera is that it hurts the players ability to actually play the game and stack. There are angles that are hit where you can’t even see when to tap and have to do it based off a almost guess. There is also a lot of bugs and improvements that need to be worked on, one of which being a more detailed settings menu. This really is a good start to a new game, but it would’ve been nice if it wasn’t so barebones. The late game is hard to enjoy as well as you don’t feel rewarded for being a top player or completing the game. Despite its casual tag, a casual game takes a lot more work than this one got, but with enough work it could be fixed.
