***Over 10 million users! Winner of Apple Design Award 2010***

“Star Walk is a remarkably in-depth and detailed astronomy app. There's so much you can do with this app” - Common sense media

“Star Walk is the best stargazing application I have come across for the iPhone. Many of the features found within the application cannot be found in any others! This is one of the best developed and executed applications I have seen to hit the app store.” - iMore

“This app brings the old paper star chart into the smartphone age, and makes exploring the night sky easily accessible to everyone.” - Soggy Astronomer

Duran Duran's keyboard Nick Rhodes mentions Star Walk as his favourite app:

“It’s brilliant, and if you’re ever somewhere with a clear sky and no light pollution, it’s a revelation. It’s beautifully designed and makes clever use of the available technology. I’m fascinated by astronomy, but even if you’re not, give this a go.”

Key features:

• Night sky map with thousands of stars, constellations and other sky objects.
• Real-time tracking of celestial bodies.
• Augmented reality sky view.
• Deep sky objects to explore in detail.
• Night mode.
• Extensive information about all sky objects.
• The ability to travel in time with “Time machine”
• Astronomical calendar with various celestial events.
• Stunning space pictures in “Picture of the Day”.
• “Sky Live” section with info about the moon phases, the amount of daylight, the visibility of the planets, etc.

Astronomical calendar, deep space objects, meteor showers, dwarf planets, asteroids, comets, and satellites are available through the STAR WALK PLUS subscription.

‣ Launch the app and point your device at the night sky - you'll see the stars, planets, satellites, and constellations in their proper place from your location. As you move your device, the star map updates in real time.*

‣ Every object you tap has an (i) next to its name, tap it to access some information.

‣ A scale on right is the “Time machine”, slide it to explore the map of the night sky of tomorrow or years ago.

‣ A calendar of celestial events will make sure you never miss anything interesting.

‣ Tap Augmented Reality icon in the upper right corner to add the image from your camera to your sky view.

‣ Use Night Mode to go easy on your eyes and preserve night vision when exploring the Universe.

‣ Star Walk is your personal planetarium. Project to a big screen with no picture quality loss.

*This feature (Star Spotter) is available for devices with digital compass. If your device does not have the digital compass, you can use your fingers to change the view of the sky map.

Star Walk now works with Apple Watch to alert you of upcoming astronomical events and anything interesting going on in the sky. Schedule a reminder for the next spectacular meteor shower, the International Space Station flying over your location, or catch the perfect night for astrophotography.

— Calendar of upcoming astronomical events
— Current phase of the moon
— Time of sunset and sunrise
— Alerts

Star Walk on Apple Watch works together with your iPhone — you can schedule an alert on any device and it will appear on your Apple Watch just in the right time.

1) It is likely that ISON is not going to be the comet of the century. Nevertheless, we decided not to remove it from the app.

2) You can now turn on Picture caching in the Star Walk Settings. When caching is ON it will download the content only once and store it on your device. However when caching is OFF it will save you some space on your device.

3) Minor adjustments in texts and tables in Info to make them more readable.

4) Chinese localization improved.

My fellow Stargazer,

I think I might have made a couple mistakes in the code when I digressed in careless dreaming about distant galaxies. Ah, Andromeda Galaxy... In any case, if your app is behaving funny, feel free to download the update.

Fixed bugs:
- Misinterpreting the Calendar dates for astronomical events in different Time Zones
- Moon Phases for Sky Live window
- Minor bugs fixing

Star walk developer.

My dearest Stargazer,

It's been awhile since we’ve talked, but I am happy to catch a moment and thank you for your letter. It was really kind of you to let me know that you are there and that you care. It almost made me feel like I was Santa in my own little way, making stargazing wishes come true. After careful consideration, I decided to fulfill the following wishes:

- Ultimate Calendar of the most important stargazing delights, it will tell you what’s up and even set an alarm
- Comet tracking (Halley, ISON, PANSTARRS, and Lemmon)
- Iridium flares
- Constellation artwork on/off
- Significant reduction in size

I know it's not much, but I'm hoping you will accept this as a small token of my gratitude and belief in future friendship. I have a lot more work to do, so I guess I better go get to it. And I am always happy to chat on Facebook and Twitter!

Best of stargazing,

My Dear Fellow Stargazer,

This update will make your app not crash (if it did). I also added a 3D model of the Newton satellite and fixed the bug with the Arabic language.

I have thought a good deal about what to add to this magnificent app of ours and well, to tell you the truth, it appears as though Star Walk is perfect. My magnum opus is complete. What to do, what to do... If you have any idea what it is lacking please - I beg you - tell me. Because I really don’t know. I always read AppStore user reviews and letters in [email protected] mailbox, not to mention Facebook and Twitter, where I spend way too much time.

Sincerely,
Brooding Star Walk Developer.

astrophysycist dinosaur,
Star walks the best. I’ve had it forever.
Star walk is the best. I’ve had it forever. If it was the ONLY thing my iPhone could do I’d be thrilled beyond belief we are so spoiled these days with amazing tech. Thank you to star-walks creators! I don’t care how much they are pad to make this app, in my regard it counts as public service. The best! Why no one actually talks about it I do nit know.

I’m a professional astronomer I guess. Well I’m an astrophysics student. Let me be clear, You need zero astrophysics to use this app. You just need to like looking up and down and all around. Because the stars are all around us. One of my favorite things to do with my kids is to put my phone on its car mount and drive around our little neighborhood with star wall on in overlay mode so the can see that it’s us here on earth moving. Not the stars. Perspectively as we turn our heads and spin on our axis. You can see all the stars still. Below the horizon having just set or about to rise.

Thank you star work. Enough fun overlay artwork to keep and child interested. Or the child like - like we all are when we look up!
hanotehu,
Too difficult to read
Maybe it’s a bad setting or something but I find the data in the app very hard to read. When I first got the app several years ago it was fine but it keeps getting “prettier” and less useful. For one thing, object labels are missing if they are near the edge of the screen. As you get them closer to the center their labels show up as an unreadable gray. Finally, when they are almost in the center they are in a tiny but somewhat readable white font. Why aren’t they white all the time? If you’re using the app to try and find something you have to center the thing first. That’s hard to do if you don’t know where it is. Another hard thing to see is the horizon. It’s very subtly darker than the sky. Why not make it better defined? The planets are hard to find too. The pretty icons on the map can help but the red text is too dark against the black background. Things near the galactic equator are hard because the Milky Way image is much too bright. Finally, the new moon is shown as black. OK, it really is but if you’re trying to find it, good luck. If you center where this invisible object is, of course, then you may be able to spot the tiny white label. It would hurt the prettiness, I guess, but I’d love to see a white outline on it. Finally, this is the slowest app I have when I start it. It has pretty little animations of its name for a good 10 seconds. I didn’t get it for that. Basically it sacrifices utility for aesthetics.
[Mooki],
Great App
This app is amazing, I like how you can switch the views to look at the stars. It doesn’t have that many adds considering that it’s free. Although you do need premium to look at definitions and descriptions on some satellites and stuff you can just search it up on google if it’s that interesting. I personally just have it to look at the stars but it’s interesting to learn about the stars when you tap on them. There are so many more things about this app that you can do and that’s only for the free version. If you get this app then I recommend getting the premium. It’ll give you a better experience of the app. Overall this is a great app and I plan on using it for a long while,
Flexiblefish,
Inaccurate information
I noticed that this app’s Facebook page published a post saying that Venus turns retrograde on July 22nd, 2023 and then direct on September 4th, 2023. I knew right away that this was inaccurate. Venus turns direct on September 3rd in the Western Hemisphere (not the 4th as they had it). I considered that perhaps the info wasn’t based on Western time zones, but it still didn’t make sense. Venus turns retrograde at 1:33am GMT on July 23rd and direct at 1:21 GMT on September 4th. So, if their times were based on GMT, they would have had the date on which Venus turns retrograde as July 23rd, instead of the 22nd as it was in the post they published. When I messaged them to point out their error to them, they responded with the utmost condescension that “there is more than the Western hemisphere” as if I hadn’t considered that already. Dudes, if you are reading this, I was born outside of the Western hemisphere. TLDR: do not count on accuracy. An update in response to the developer’s response: I also emailed their support team twice. No response.
Loriofpandora,
So disappointed.
I have owned this app for years. Paid the full price for it, 9.99 (at the time really expensive... pretty pricy even now!) I used it seriously three or four times a year for the last 5 years planning camping trips to coincide with cool astronomy events like the total solar eclipse and all sorts of meteor showers. I loved it. Raved about it to my friends. Even showed it off to my dad. It is a part of my start screen and I pulled it out every camping trip.

Imagine my disappointment, upon opening it so it can enhance my viewing of the perseid meteor shower, which I am camping for, right now, this very evening and none of the previously available features are available to me unless I pony up MORE money for a subscription service. I am really upset.

Farewell, Star Walk. You were a beautifully designed and useful app once. I’m sure you still are beautiful...You enhanced my love for the stars. I guess my wallet is just not large enough to follow you down that subscription rabbit hole. I am so sad.
Rip Roaring Raft Guide,
5yrs later and I still love this app
My favorite part is if you get to far out with no service (always the best stars) IT STILL WORKS! We camp for 2wks every summer up in the Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming and there is no hope of service until off of them, but this app is a camping party favorite EVERY year not to mention It is all I ever wanted growing up! As a teen I saved my mowing money for a cordless phone (pre-cellphone era) and would lay in our pasture for hours and hours all summer long with my glow in the dark constellation coffee table book and Gf on the phone, now I can just hold up my phone and know my stellar address, neighbors and man made junk, I will never look at the stars the same 10/10
YEEEEEEET KID21,
Ads
So lately I discovered ads can actually make your vision worst and my hole family used this app for a long time there’s a lot of good vision in my family but there vision is getting worse because of the ads and a lot of my family has glasses because the ads ruin there vision and don’t put them on the hole screen I broke my I pad cause I raged of the ads so please just make them small like on the side of the screen so they won’t bother us that much I don’t really use this app anymore because there’s to much ads I would really appreciate it if you at least made ads not cover the entire screen. Thanks!
swezz in Apple-ville,
StarWalk Keeps me informed & shows me where to look
I’m 67 and been an amateur skywatcher all my life. I enjoy StarWalk alerts me daily to current interesting celestial events AND shows me where to look for them! It’s like having a professional astronomer available 24/7! Perhaps I’ll never recall much of all I learn, but for example I just learned some “new” facts about our Moon in the Wikipedia entry it took me to! StarWalk telling me what I can see and where to look has really enriched my skywatching every night I choose to use it! Thanks for a celestial mechanic help on my iPhone!
Lace1122,
Love this app.
I wish I could afford a big fancy telescope to truly show me the detail of our night sky.. until then this app is helping me learn placement in time of the night sky around me and for that, I am thankful. I can look at a constellation, pick a star and learn all about it. I can also see satellites. I think this app is a wonderful learning tool for anyone interested in our galaxy and learning what's around you. Even if you have a telescope I think it would be a great asset to locate and identify what you are looking at. It is very informational.
afdepinto,
Good app, bad marketing
I bought premium and enjoy the app.

However, the app is clearly designed to be unusable unless you buy a subscription (frequent pop-up ads). People that download this app are either going to be angry about the ads and delete the app or pay for premium immediately, which is clearly the devs intentions.

My suggestion would be to give the user 10-15 minutes of ad-free usage when they first download so that they can experience the app to its fullest and therefore be more inclined to buy premium when their time is up. If they get ads right away, they will just be angry and delete.
