Hslp,
Good app for generating sentences and stories
This is a very good app for using with elementary aged students who need to work on generating sentences or stories and answering questions. The student is able to record their voice so that they can then listen to their own sentences and discuss their performance. Level 1 and 2 allow the student to record a one sentence response to a clip art photo question. Level 3 allows the student to answer 4 questions about the picture. They can then play the four sentences back as a story. There are a lot of ways this app can be used by teachers and therapists. It can easily be used with general education students as well as students with varying disabilities. This app is definitely worth the money.

Great app for working on improving verbal expression
I am the founder of Innovative Speech Therapy and specialize in empowering families and professionals with the knowledge and strategies to use affordable technologies to help kids and adults who have a wide range of communication challenges. I am very impressed with this app and the responsiveness of the company to my suggestions for improvements. It is truly unique. It took me a few tries to figure out what all the options were and when I would use them. Users really need to take the time to read the text displayed after the info button is pressed to realize the full potential of this app.

In my practice I use this app to work toward a wide variety of goals. It's great for practicing creating sentences and organizing verbal narrative. I also use it to help others improve articulation, fluency, voice, and word retrieval. I am glad that there are options to turn on and off the initial voice with each new picture- some people find it distracting. The recording quality is fantastic and the process is easy. I like being able to save the recordings to document progress. The pictures are colorful and engaging. This app is a great way to work at the sentence and conversational levels and to promote carryover with both kids and adults who benefit from recording themselves and then immediately listening to their speech. Kids find it motivating to send their completed stories over email. It's a great value for only $3.99!
Beth-eeyore,
Great app for kids of all ages
This app is entertaining, interesting, and a great learning experience (without the kids even noticing). It teaches imagination, creativity, communication, sentence structure, and listening.
My 4 year old is developmentally delayed and this app allowed her to create her own story step by step. It did require adult assistance. The question prompts were great, the recording was easy, and the play back is fabulous.
My 8 year old also created his own stories. He was able to be more descriptive making the app fun or him. He required no adult assistance though I was there because I wanted to hear his story.
You are able to set up different accounts for each kid and save their own story. I love that the story is in there own voice. That I can create a story today then months later to see the growth of the child. It is easy to use and fun.
There are not many apps both my kids can play (and enjoy). This is an excellent app.

The only thing I would change is the childs log. I wish the kid could just click on their name when it is entered. Also the setting area should be allowed to add a lock to keep the kids from changing the settings.

Learning to Help,
Great for kids with Aspergers
My son was recently diagnosed with Apspergers. He has difficulty with anything outside of literal translations - think Temperance Brennan on Bones. We worked with this app today, and although he still had problems seeing beyond the picture that was provided, he put together a story about it in very little time with his very literal jokes thrown in for good measure. It uses the microphone so no typing or writing required - he shuts down whenever he has to do either of these things as he has problems getting things from his brain to the paper, and he can listen to each sentence after recording and then to the whole story at the end. We are going to use this app frequently to try and keep from losing skills over the summer break.

This app definitely has the WOW! factor!! I LOVE IT! The developer created it for children with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), but I definitely see it as a great app for ALL KIDS, not just kids with ASD. This is a great app for narrative language, sentence structure, answering questions, higher level thinking, and creativity. I like the three different levels. It will be very useful in speech-language therapy.

As a parent, I would purchase this app for my own children (without special needs). It gives all kids a chance to be creative and hear their stories/voices out loud. Every kid loves to do that!! What a great way to build their language skills and prepare them for creative writing tasks at school.

I have to add to my review because I am so pleased with this developer! I suggested some changes to this app, and the updates happened within the next two weeks! I love the "skip picture" button and the pause button during playback (so I can discuss, cue, or model with my students).

I USE THIS APP FOR ALMOST ALL OF MY 1ST AND 2ND GRADE LANGUAGE STUDENTS AT LEAST 1X PER WEEK!! We do at least one story on StoryBuilder then another activity.
NakiaSB,
Culturally & experience biased
I love the idea of this app but it could use some improvements. One of the picture prompts had fireworks and asked what day of the year it was. To anyone who is unfamiliar with Independence Day, this would be a confusing question, and that's the reaction I noticed. Also, another prompt had a boy in a river, holding on to a tree so he wouldn't get swept over the waterfall. I understand how this could develop into a creative story for some, but it made the 3 year old confused & her response was that the boy was in the bath tub.

I feel like the picture cues and questions could be improved by having some more baseline experiences represented. I'm having better luck creating story boards on pinterest and developing my own questions than using this app for language development with underexposed children.
TSR Research Group,
Some features not implemented yet?
We're reviewing this app for potential use in a speech & hearing clinic. We like the 3 levels, the ability to record and playback speech, and the settings that a teacher/parent/clinician could adjust. Our 3-star rating is based on the abstract quality of some of the cartoon pictures and difficulty of some contexts (such as an adult surprise party). We would increase rating to 4 stars if some features are implemented (see below).

In the iTunes description, the feature list includes storying narratives for future playback and also e-mailing stories. Are these features implemented in the current version, and if so how are they accessed? We have read the instructions/info page. Thanks!

So Many Skills!
This app sharpens so many skills: thinking, creativity, speaking, writing, listening, perception, just all around so many areas! It has three levels to pick from based on your child's skill. You can decide whether you would like the questions for getting them going or not. You can decide whether you would like to write out your answers 1st or just speak directly into the recording. I like that you're made to think, yet are step by step guided with help by the questions. I think it's also great that when they are done, this can be shared by email with friends and relatives. Very attractive pictures to keep the attention of the kids!
Skyrose1018,
Great app to get "stubborn" kids to tell a story!
I have an 8 year old with PDD-NOS and he insists he can't tell stories. We've been fighting all school year over this. I just had him try this app a little bit ago and wasn't sure if I'd ever get the iPad back! He LOVES it. He is able to take the prompts, look at the pictures, and make up sentences. He said that to him, it felt like a game.

He also liked the fact that he can save his completed stories to show his father and therapist.

I can't wait to try this on my 5 year old who is also on the spectrum and has a speech delay. I think this will be a great addition to our therapy routine!
OtterMom4,
Excellent educational tool!
This app is exceptionally easy to use. It can easily be adjusted for various user needs. I like the way it builds on its self naturally guiding the user into proper paragraph format. Love the recording capability as it helps students to hear if they are putting the sentence together the way they think they are. This also can be used for several users to work together to create a story. For those with speech difficulties it can be helpful for them to hear sentences as they speak them. Easy to use, fully adjustable and a proven formula for learning make this a must have app! Would give it 7 stars if I could!
