Starfall v1.11

-- Emergency bug fix. Fixed critical issue with two of the Campaign levels that prevented progression.

In case you missed v1.1:

-- For players defending near the Command Center pathfinding was misleading. Changed to force ships to maze right until they reach the command center even if they are very close to it at times to avoid confusion.
-- No longer possible to completely block enemy path to Command Center. Resulting enemy 'long-shot' response removed as well.
-- Fixed an issue with the R&D center.
-- Fixed a minor visual issue associated with pausing the game.
-- Fixed an issue with the Tier 2 Power Generator range not immediately powering new structures that are in range as a result of the Tier 2 upgrade.
-- Fixed an issue with the level select menu once the user has completed the campaign.
-- Fixed an issue with the current firmware and iPad 64gb 3G that resulted in a white screen on some devices.
-- Progress is no longer lost if the application shuts down abnormally.
-- Removed small memory leak that caused the game to crash after several hours.
-- Score calculation has been modified because the scores in the online high score table we becoming too large. OpenFeint high scores have been reset however your campaign scores have been adjusted within your profile, simply play one campaign level to refresh your online high scores.

Added:
-- Boosted amount of research credits earned for completing the game on harder difficulties.
-- Easter egg added for achieving financial independence.
-- Users opting-out of OpenFeint then later opting-in will have their progress transferred to their OpenFeint profile.
-- When placing a tower or structure a reverse path-finding check is performed to ensure the player is not placing a structure that will completely block the enemies path to the command center. Blocking is an interesting TD gameplay mechanic, however Starfall is fast-paced and it's hard to recover from. For new or novice players the concept of blocking is sometimes unclear and thus removed from the game.

Thanks for the overwhelming positive response to this game! Please rate & review.

The First of Many Big Updates ----

-- Fixed an issue where the music was much louder than intended by default requiring users to manually lower music volume to hear sound effects.
-- Reworked all user interface and in-game sound effects to improve the overall game audio.
-- Fixed an issue where upgrading a Power Generator to Tier 2 would not immediately power new structures in range as a result of the additional Tier 2 generator range.
-- Fixed an issue where campaign difficulty was shown and applied incorrectly.
-- Fixed an issue where destroying a tower would refund the entire structure investment on higher difficulty levels instead of only a fraction.
-- Changed Almanac to show information about towers and structures that are not unlocked allowing users to make informed decisions about what to unlock next.
-- Changed in-game Wave Info indicator to remain visible at all times rather than only at the beginning of each wave.
-- Fixed an issue with the iTunes icon.

-- Added: Allow users to change the campaign difficulty from the profile menu.
-- Added: At the start of each level, incoming enemy ship locations are highlighted until first wave begins.

photoshop-er,
Developers still supporting this app after all these years!
Can’t believe this app is still being supported! With that kind of dedication I can’t help but support you guys. Release something new and I’ll buy it!
mryuk,
Picked it back up
I can’t see the bottom anymore. Love to see a new version I wish!
TrentAsh,
Best TD Game... more maps please!
This is, by far, the best TD game made for the iPad. I have been playing it for over a year now. The graphics are good, the layout is tidy and user friendly, and the game is challenging and makes you plan. My one gripe is that there have never, to my knowledge, been more maps made and there is no way for users to create their own maps. Starfall 2 is just not as good. It got cutesy with the graphics, unit layout is more difficult, etc. This game is about strategy and that is what I want. Now I would like a way to continue to play with new and different maps. I would PAY for these.... Wink, wink. I like the neat tech additions of Starfall 2 as well. Perhaps the creators will update their classic game at some point. They'd get my coin again, that's for sure.

If you are looking for a TD game, stop looking. Just click buy. You won't regret it....
Parrot Freak,
Good TD but gets tedious
I've played this game for over a week now and while I like it, there is very little replay value to it. The graphics and coding are solid. On an iPad 4 I've not had a single crash. There was a time that the frame rate became choppy, but nothing that a restart wouldn't solve. The graphics are HD quality although not when you zoom in.

I like the design of the game. It reminds me a little of Starcraft and Total Annihilation (a game I really miss playing). That being said, I wish there was more variety to the levels. Personally, I think it would be great to have different 'terrestrial' levels. I find the metal landscape look gets tiresome really quickly. There are only 6 different Defense towers, but only three of them are unique. The other three are just beefy versions of their originals. It would be great if there were more.

There are a lot of TD games in the iOS store, but this definitely stands out among them. I like that you can put your towers wherever you want. I also like that its a pay once game - no 'freemium' nickel and diming here. The biggest issues to me are the lack of variety with the level designs, a small set of towers and little replay ability once you've achieved all of the tower upgrades. None of these issues though have to be deal breakers. A solid update or two would make this an easy 5 stars.
Shadow.Runner,
Has Potential
This game has so much potential I have decided to write a review for it. Currently there are too many bugs to enjoy all parts of the game. I just discovered a bug that when I reached about $2,000,000,000 in campaign it turned negative and I could not spend any more.
This leads to my other complaint about balancing issues. It is too easy to have more money than you know what to do with, the enemies have little variation, and the fact that certain enemies are weaker against certain types of weapons is useless as I don't know when that enemy is going to come and its not like I'm going to change my towers so I can benefit from the weakness.
In addition to that above I would like to see better use of the screen real-estate, for example I don't need to see so much of the battle area but would like more room for buttons because clicking two times is not as nice as towers having their own button as long as it is not talking up too much room.

I still like this game and don't want to discourage anyone considering the game, its just not quite ready for prime time if you will. LOOKING FORWARD TO SOME UPDATES!
aldog77,
Needs to be updated !!
Update******** I can now give this game 5 stars!! Thanks devs for updating the app and issuing the fix. Have played the game without issue since the update!

I would also give this game 5 stars easily. Great tower defense game, great ideas, great gameplay. But it crashed after several hours of gameplay and I lost all my credits and my upgrades! I was very upset, but figured that perhaps I had run low on memory. I thought the gameplay was good so I tried again- same thing happened! This is definitely a BUG which kills the experience. I play TD games for the leveling up! I will not play or recommend until it is updated. (I will also update this review once it is fixed)
Nametaken9321,
Update addresses issues....
Towers can be upgraded but there is no way that I can tell which level a particular tower is at. The tower doesn't change appearance. A significant flaw. Also it is not always clear where gaps exist in your defense structure. Weapon sounds not very interesting or impactful. Levels begin automatically with a short countdown once the map is loaded. There is no way to stop that countdown and study the map.

Edit....nice update. The tower levels are clearly marked. And I've discovered your AI is very good. Much better than Tower Madness. Important to get the base upgrade early so you can move it otherwise you'll be frustrated.
El Pared,
Great potential, still
The update added a lot, and I'm happy with it because it fixed all my issues from before. However, because of past issues (the ship mapping that was just fixed) I have the upgrade which allows you to place your Command Center wherever you want at the beginning of the game. It's a great upgrade and I recommend it even if you didn't have that issue, but something weird just happened which I think is caused by it:

There's a campaign level that has three strips of useable land, the fattest strip being in the middle. For some reason, no matter where I place my command center, I can't place any towers. So I'm stuck there until i can figure out how to actually place towers because the ships simple fly to the piece of land closest to the CC and bomb from there, even if it's a "long shot"
Squirrelsnuts,
Very engaging tower defense game!
I like the take this game has on tower defense, being in space and all. The upgrades are great, the graphics are great and a variety of towers and such.
One thing that irritates me though is that when I hit the home button, my game state is not saved.... I know, just don't hit the home button, however, a calendar event reminder has the same effect :(
Also, it is a little confusing about what the "track" is. I learned by trial and error and it isn't a big deal, but on some levels, the ships don't even "fly" on the platform... they just fly around it.
But over all, a great game and well worth the $$.
mnpilot,
Good until you get to the higher levels
This is a great game, on the casual level. Great build up and challenges. However, get to the medium and hard levels and forget playing . The hard levels are impossible to work, even trying all the tricks and techniques. I have been working on the same hard level for months now and I can't get it done. Too bad that there isn't any new towers or advantages to buy or achieve. You end up running out of firepower and then you are done. Wish the developers would work on the higher levels giving us who play all the time some help.
