Stringr is a great idea, they have a great app and website but they don’t have the best support. There was one great encounter I had with a Stringr employee over text, they were very good with communicating to me the information I needed to complete the job, sadly I don’t remember the employee’s name because I think they should get a raise. The rest of my encounters have been insanely short and not helpful. I’ll ask for more information and 98% percent of the time the answer is just “no”, “ok”, “yes. thanks”.

As far as making money goes I’ve been paid,(somebody downloaded my video), about 65% of the time which is a good ratio being as there are plenty of other Stringers in my Metro Area.

If you’re in the area (within 1/2 a mile on foot, 5 miles with a bike and 20 miles with a car), 80% of the time it’s worth it. Also it’s worth noting that Stringr usually takes an average of 25 to 45 minutes after the PD/FD is dispatched to put out an alert for a big fire or accident call so if you see something big or are near something big, film it and text/call Stringr and let them know about it. I

Definitely download the app and get payment setup, you’ll never know when you’ll happen upon something good.

Well, let me review this app as a professional videojournalist who work with it for about a year. I can’t say it’s totally scam, because almost 70% of my videos have been downloaded and I got paid for them. I know how to film an event and I always use a professional gear to provide a quality job. The first thing that I don’t like this app is they pay way less than what they should pay for their assignments. The second thing is they are not a news organization and when you show up in an event requesting by them you don’t have any press pass from them to provide. When you interview someone and they ask where they can find the footage, always your answer is “I have no idea”. They never give you the name of the customer who downloaded your footage because they don’t want you to figure out that they sold your footage to them for $400 and they paid you $40. The third thing was I contacted them several times asked them stop sending text message on my phone, because I receive all the requests directly on the app and if I’m interested to cover it up I will accept it, and if I’m not interested or I’m busy somewhere, then I don’t, so texting me is not going to help at all. Last time I answered their text message like: “leave me alone!” After that they unsubscribe my account and I was not able to get any requests. They keep bothering you 100 times a day, or they cut you off, there is no middle spot to work with them.

I downloaded this app and had it about 3 months. And I accepted some multiple weather jobs on here and it was a waste of time and a disappointment. I’m a professional photographer for 14 so that being said I was out in several severe thunderstorms and even a Arctic blizzard. When I uploaded my assignments only a handful would show under my uploads an after 15 min just disappeared and the rest never even reached my uploads but I received confirmation of them being uploaded. You don’t actually even know if they sell your videos an just keep the money . They say only if someone buys your video but when you are giving what they want in extreme weather and do multiple uploads at multiple locations and to never get paid. I don’t think this company is totally legit. If you want people to risk their well-being you should pay them for their work no matter what . A base pay an add a commission if it gets bought . We should be given a document statement that our video was bought . You should have a team unity with giving employees a company logo shirt to wear on assignments an a professional company ID BADGE WHEN FILMING so we are not being embarrassed when not giving access at sort locations. The people giving great reviews an 4/5 stars are fake reviews paid reviews because if you are really working for this company the. You will no what I’m saying is the truth.!!! Company needs to Invest in the employees in order to see a major boom in its success.!

I’ve been working with Stringr for almost 3 years. I live in a large community where it’s generally quiet but I still get assignments almost weekly. All my videos were purchased. Stringr support staff very easy to contact if I have questions. And they contact me via text or phone call if it’s high priority. Pay is done within hours of uploading videos. I’ve even done videos where I received payment without being assigned. Not all of them I got paid for but I generally know what Stringr or their clients might be looking that is news worthy or relevant. My advice is if your on the Stringr platform and you happen upon an event you feel may be news worthy (and safe) stop and take the videos & upload. You never know if they will sell but I like my track record so far. If you don’t have a badge reach out to Stringr and they will send you a PDF where you can place in a lanyard to hang around your neck and boom, you have credentials to give you access to press only events. I cut and paste my photo on the PDF so it looks very professional. Please keep the assignments coming.

So I thought it wasn’t working or was a scam at first, but then, after the weekend, I got paid to my PayPal, as promised. I have since done a few uploads of my videos and they have been purchased. If it’s during the week, I get paid within 24 hours, if it’s a Thursday, Friday or official weekend, it’s the next business day. It’s great if you live in a busy city, accept a gig, upload the short clips, voila!!

I started out because I figured I live in a pretty busy area, might as well make a few bucks for uploading video clips. Well, I accepted my first “assignment” and have been awaiting payment to my PayPal account and still haven’t received it. It’s been 3 days so far. They’re supposed to remit payment within 24 hrs. Don’t waste your time with this nonsense. It’s a waste of time, energy and effort.

I got paid for a live stream even tho the live stream did not work! They paid me $100 through PayPal. Whatever email address you register with make sure that it is also your PayPal account! You only get paid if your video gets picked up at any time UNLESS it says “guaranteed” in the request. Your best chances at making money are to accept the request immediately and upload several videos. I like to think of this as the Randonautica that pays you. It gets me out of the house and takes me to a location and event I would not have experienced otherwise. Get out. Shoot video. Have fun. I can assure you, it is real, not a scam and you do get paid. I wish I had more time to do this. Sometimes I do this on my lunch hour at work.

I worked as a full-time videographer by day, and downloaded this app to make some extra cash at night. I ended up building a good working relationship with the station that uses this service in my market, and now work for them as a full-time photojournalist. I share this because if you’re wanting to get into news, this app really is a great way to build a breaking news portfolio. Shoot good video, get interviews when you can, and call your news station every single time you head to a request to ask questions and build a relationship. And if you’re wondering, I sold about 90% of everything I shot. I know it varies by market and how many stringers respond to each request, but I had pretty good success selling video.

I started with the Samsung Galaxy note 10! And has steady work. Seeing that I can upload my own footage I did local events protests and Time-lapses. I made enough money to update my phones to the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and IPhone 12 Pro. I was even able to buy a Sony ZV1 camera using money earned by Stringr. I hope to buy a professional video camera soon. I lost my job during the pandemic and Stringr income help me stay afloat. I shoot for Stringr everyday and traveled to different cities to cover events and news stories like the Uvalde shooting massacre and police responses. Yep Stringr is the best. I never was able to go to college for journalism but I became a reporter anyway through Stringr.

I really like the idea of being able to create content and make some extra money. It’s really the best thing you can ask for as a freelancer. However, the app is pretty bad and there is next to no real navigation around the app. Your “profile” isn’t a profile at all. Your submitted work doesn’t even playback. The WORST part, is that I continue to accept jobs that are due HOURS after I accept them. I complete the job in MUCH less time (25mins for a job that was due in 7hrs), but when I go back into the app to submit the work, the job is GONE!! So I basically went and wasted my time filming something for NOTHING!! This has happened 3 times now. What’s the point of accepting jobs if they aren’t going to still be there when you complete the assignment??!!! Again, I like the idea, and would LOVE the app if I could actually KEEP the jobs I accept. The app needs a serious upgrade, and a smoother process.

I hadn't accepted an assignment until now, as I live in the Los Angeles area, and something 10 miles away can take 1.5 hours to drive to. I had one close enough to walk to, so I tried it, and they accepted it. Had another today, I accepted the assignment, shot it, uploaded it on the way home, and they'd accepted it by the time I arrived home. They're very responsive to questions and make the whole thing easy. I highly recommend Stringr, the assignments are straightforward, allow for some creativity (read their guidelines) and honestly fun to cover. They pay right away (within a day of acceptance). I highly recommend Stringr.
