Description

Master your Studies. On macOS and iOS.

Some things in life just have to be memorized. Facts, formulas, words, pictures, dates, procedures, even names and faces. Everything you do includes information that needs to reside in your head. Studies can help with that.

Studies is a flashcard app for the serious student. It's a tool to extend your knowledge, and it doesn't matter what you want to learn — medicine, law, language, history, driving, fine art, music, martial arts — from simple day-to-day tidbits, to knowledge of life changing importance. Studies is an app to help you achieve your learning goals.

There are Studies apps for iPhone, iPad, and Mac (separate purchase), and they sync up beautifully via iCloud. Start studying in class with Studies for Mac, continue on the bus ride home with Studies for iPhone, and finish off on the sofa with Studies for iPad.

(Note: Studies was formerly called Mental Case.)

JFNLCR,
Nearly perfect
I’ve been using this app for several years—since back when it was still Mental Case—and I’ve been very happy with its flexibility, effectiveness, and the improvements made over the years. One feature request that I’d love to see implemented is the ability to sort stacks (and/or search results) automatically by a given field, like by the date a note is created or in alphabetical order. The default order (notes are in stack by the date created) is generally what I want, but I have some stacks with thousands of cards and often find myself swiping for ages to scroll to the end in order to see the most recent few notes. The ability to manually reorder stacks is nice, but with very large stacks it’s not practical, especially if I, say, want to toggle between alphabetical and date created. This is a minor shortcoming, however: I use this app nearly every day and highly recommend it to anyone who works in a field requiring commitment of large amounts of information to memory!
HeathBlue30,
Highly recommend, but still needs improvement
I’m currently studying to be an electrical engineer. I was looking for a good flash card app that would allow me to create flash cards on any of my devices, as well as study on any of them without always having an internet connection. I use it on an iPhone 6s+, an iPad Pro, a MacBook Pro, and a Mac mini. What I like most about it is having my flash cards with me everywhere I am, whether that be sitting in a doctor’s office, studying at the library, or sitting at home at my desk. Believe me, my stack of notecards had gotten too large to carry around! I just purchased the writing tool for use on my iPad Pro and was a little disappointed in the response with the Apple Pencil. I decided to try a regular stylus instead and had even worse luck. My finger works great! Unfortunately, I don’t write or draw well with my finger, and I want to be able to get the flash cards for my high level math classes to look right. I have had this app for about a year now, and I can definitely say the developer is working to get things right. I recommend it to all my classmates who have Apple devices. I hope better Apple Pencil support is coming soon... With iOS 11, I think a lot more students are going to be using iPad Pros, and this could easily become the best app out there for this purpose!

First rate app
This app offers ease and flexibility that makes language learning pleasant, effective, and portable. The interface allows users to study each card slowly and thoroughly or allows users to review large amounts of information quickly. Users can easily set aside difficult words to study at a later time. The app efficiently and accurately imports hundreds of cards from an excel file in Dropbox. Overall, an A+.
myechamika,
It works but I miss Mental Case - not as easy to sync anymore
I’ve been using Mental Case for years, but the iCloud sync just has never worked very well... I always opted for syncing via Dropbox which worked wonderfully every time. Now with studies they only offer iCloud sync, which even if it has improved, I can’t really use on my school-provided-iPad because I have to use my school iCloud email on this iPad where as on my own personal computer where I more easily create my flash cards, I am signed into my own personal iCloud account. The trouble with iCloud sign ins, is you can’t sign into different apps with different iCloud accounts. So there is no way for me to sync my flash cards on my personal computer onto my school iPad. And even exporting to GDrive or to email, won’t allow me to actually open my exported files on my school iPad. So this is just frustrating.
Sarxws,
Good but lacks easily added features
I am studying medicine. Many of my slides have a lot of information. I can’t zoom into the answer to read text better. Also, I can’t change the orientation when using the app. I have to rotate many diagrams so they fit better in the answer. Superscript and subscript buttons in the toolbar are really needed.

Regarding zooming in text, I really dislike the facet feature as a solution. Just let me enter the information and zoom into it. I don’t have a lot of time to invest in making study guides and adding extra steps to make something readable will not work for me.

So, I recommend it but it really needs a few basic features to make this app knock it out the park.

Great iOS flash card app with room for improvement
Fantastic app - beautifully organized and a pleasure to use. However the paid drawing add on is very glitchy - does not seem to have full Apple Pencil support and drawings end up very crude. App also crashes very regularly (once an hour for me). Nonetheless this is the best iOS flash card app out there in my opinion -- would be perfect if they add improve the drawings / pencil support (would love the option to hand write flash cards instead of type) and increase the stability.
pfunk4billion,
Nice interface
I like to be able to make a new stack and go through it repeatedly, even if I "answer" correctly a few times. This app allows for that without any hassle or typing tags, etc. There are many options available but for someone who simply likes to use two sided flashcards, quiz myself on both sides, and decide when I want to review, this app does the trick.
AJ_Grant,
World class
Making a sophisticated Flash card app that pleases everyone is no small endeavor.

Studies is a professional workhorse for people serious about memorizing information that comes in a variety of schemas. Its configuration and weighting of learned vs unlearned material and its ability to work on any device makes for a solid product you can depend on for your studies.
bentford,
Great study app
Great study app. Huge plus for the iCloud syncing that just works. (Plus, I know my data is privately stored unlike other apps).

I’m using this for spaced repetition learning for several topics and having great results.

Another plus is option to use the desktop app on MacOS.
Kwidgebo,
Import??
Looks like a great app that almost meets my needs and is much simpler than Flashcard Deluxe (another great app but which is far too complex, even for power users). However, I can't understand why there are no custom import options. This is a deal breaker for me.

Response to Developer: Really? Sorry I missed it. I thought you only supported Quizlet. I'm just after CSV import. I will take another look.
