Description

Suicide Safe is a suicide prevention learning tool for primary care and behavioral health providers and is based on the nationally recognized Suicide Assessment Five-step Evaluation and Triage (SAFE-T) practice guidelines. Suicide Safe helps providers feel confident to assist patients who present with suicidal ideation. The app offers tips on how to communicate effectively with patients and their families, determine appropriate next steps, and make referrals to treatment and community resources.

Features:
• Learn the five steps of the SAFE-T approach in working with patients and easily download resources for use offline.
• Study interactive sample case studies to see the SAFE-T approach in action.
• Browse conversation starters that provide sample language and tips for talking with patients about their suicidal ideation.
• Explore clinical and educational resources and share crisis line phone numbers and other patient-focused materials.
• Use SAMHSA’s Behavioral Health Treatment Services Locator to provide timely referrals for patients. The Locator can be filtered by type and distance.

Email SAMHSA at [email protected] with any questions or comments.
Note: This app is a free resource provided by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and was funded by Federal resources.

Jobsmathew,
Interesting!
I like to see this new initiatives from SAMHSA. The most I like in this App is the Treatment Locator. There are still plenty of opportunities for this to improve.
Unkle Monky,
Fantastic Mobile Resource
This app is great for those who work in the field. I have it on iPad and the formatting is excellent. Its very useful in helping clients seek services and pulling back the curtain to show why I have concerns for their safety. Its very helpful because when working with a homeless population you may go some time without a crisis and get complacent. This app keeps you prepared for that moment.
thursdayschild,
Developed by people with taxpayer money to burn.
The app cost close to $100,000 to make. Taxpayer money and yet it doesn’t even give the new 988 number that the federal government has signed to the national suicide lifeline now rename something else. This is developed by SAMSHA, a department of NIH. they also run a suicide chat line that can take up to an hour to get connected to.

Great App
This is a great to use in Primary Care where you don't see a lot of social patients. It held users incorporate Z recommendations from the APA guideline.
LizaWilliams75,
Update links, useful framework
Useful framework for screening and triage is proposed. Links in app need to be updated.
Spokane_Man,
Great resource but not mobile friendly
I haven't yet fully reviewed the content, but what I've seen so far is good. I'm just surprised at the layout. It looks like browsing a full website rather then a mobile app. Some of the print is downright microscopic. It is a great start though and a useful resource.
