kbrdjudy,
A better app for a new game
I first heard of Euchre when I was watching an episode of New Amsterdam. Chemo patients were playing it so I figured I’d download an app to learn too. I first downloaded a different app, with strong reviews. Fortunately, it introduce me to the game rules. Unfortunately, even in the slowest setting I found it confusing and it did not offer a replay. On several occasions I thought that the computer had chosen incorrectly, but I couldn’t verify it. I recently downloaded this app and I’m very happy with it. It consistently seems to follow the rules and makes sense. I certainly like that I can see a replay of any move I question. Having the both the trump Jack and same color Jack act as a Joker - both higher than an ace is a bit of a mind bender- making available replays more important than usually. Fun game!
sboslet12,
Best euchre app, average game
I’ve played just about every free euchre app and this one is the best of them. However, there are still some issues with this game.
First off, your partner constantly makes incorrect moves. For example, if they call trump with the right bower, king and queen of trump, and two off suits, they will ALWAYS lead the low trump, lose the trick, then play the right bower to win the next trick. This causes us to lose hands, and even games, which is maddening. To be fair, your opponent will do this as well, causing you to win at times when you shouldn’t, but this is still something that shouldn’t happen.
Secondly, the amount of times I call nines and tens and then receive either 2 or 3 nines and tens back does not make sense. Statistically speaking, the chances that I receive 5-6 of the 8 nines and tens multiple times in one game is theoretically 0, so the programmers need to work that out.
Overall, this is a good game, and the best free euchre app. You can control speed of play, your partners “tendencies”, auto-play options, and different game rules. I just still get annoyed with my partner too often and it baffles me that in an app where you only play one game, the computer players play incorrectly, even after multiple updates.
Red XIV,
Good game. Outstanding interface!
I’ve played s lot of games, with a lot of platforms. The game has the absolute best user interface of a FTP game I can recall. First, the engine is good, does not make too many mistakes (sometimes I think it cheats when it leads the only card that stops me from winning 5 tricks), but the design is excellent! The game is smooth, simple, and pleasant, but the star is the way they do ads. One as, always before a new game always a full-screen ad, never more than a five seconds ad, and then … a full, uninterrupted game. Yes, no ads between deals, no obtrusive banners; just a game. I very much appreciate this; it was designed for the player first, then the possible revenue stream.

PS - I remember that episode of New Amsterdam the other reviewer mentioned.
AngieLaz,
Good, but I have suggestions
This is the best Euchre game I could find. The reason I like it is because it doesn’t suggest which card to play, the other games shadowed the cards that weren’t trump. The suggestions I have to improve this game include- removing exclamation marks when stating who won the points for a hand. It feels like poor sportsmanship. In addition, instead of stating We Won!, it would be better to say Team A, 1 point. There are times when it shows in the mid-screen and it’s unclear who won the hand. Also, each time it’s my turn it asks which card I’d like to play, that’s unnecessary, time consuming and, for some reason it’s annoying. Also, please leave a marker on the table so I can see who dealt. I would be more than happy to pay for an improved version!

Players are too passive
Nobody wants to declare trump unless they hold a sure thing. Player to dealer’s left doesn’t know the odds favor to make trump the “next” suit after dealer passes. Also, dealers partner needs to know that if dealer turns down black, he probably has a red hand, so his partner should call red if at all possible. Partners don’t know how and when to lead trump to partner’s make, which either comforts the player to see the right bower come out of their partner’s, or if partner leads a low trump just to drain the opponents and get the lead to the maker.

Also, can you tell me what the setting of tight to loose for partner play means?

I can see there is a lot of programming logic that has to go into a euchre app. Overall the app is fun and is a great start. Just needs more nuanced play logic. Look up the Ten Commandments of Euchre by Harvey somebody. Make sure your logic covers them.

Final edit: I have deleted it. I can’t stand the abysmal play of my partner. If this was a real game I would be in prison for murder. Although it might be justifiable homicide. I’ve never seen so many right bowers turned down in my whole life. Nor so many misdeals. Good luck.
JoBatcher,
Could be better
This program with not allow your partner to play trump. There are only 5 cards and can be played in many different ways. My partner is not helping me if they are “saving” their trump to pull a single trick. If I call trump you must assume I have something. Why have my partner play like the enemy and force me to draw the power out instead of showing me where it is.

Each game is different so this is not the only way to play but...if I call trump more than often my partner should lead it back. The only other grace is you have the opposing team lead trump that make my aces good. But two wrongs don’t make it right.

One more thing. Could you leave who dealt up on the table. If I lose focus for a second I’ve got to figure that out before I can start play. Thanks.

Poor playing by bots
I gave this two stars because I love euchre and there are so few apps available.
However, the bots play so badly. Examples: failure to lead bowers when holding a possible loner, partner led off suit king instead of bowers, king and queen of trump. Loses the opener and then cannot help but take every other trick. Partner takes my left with their right, but then later loses to outstanding ace when leading their remaining low trump. Partner gets set when we have both bowers and it’s holding two low trump!

If there were small errors that rarely affected outcomes, then this could be 4 or 5 stars. When the bots’ play lacks even beginner-level understanding of the game and this adversely affects play (opponents appear to never fail to play properly), then it is intentional and detracts from an otherwise reasonable app.
SaltyGawd,
Fire the Partner! (And the developer)
I want to like this app but considering the ridiculous plays made by the partner, it’s hard to take it seriously. For instance, in cutthroat version, it’s especially important to take tricks whenever you can, ESPECIALLY if it’s possible to trump. Why does the partner save trump for the last couple of tricks, especially if it’s a bower? Perhaps the developer only has a basic understanding of how to play the game? That’s my only guess because a serious player would fire that partner.

But it’s also a match of extremes. Typically if I win a match, the score is imbalanced and vice versa. If I’m on the losing side, it’s typically because I’ve been set multiple times because even with a good hand, the opposition has an even better hand which I acknowledge can happen on occasion. But 3 or 4 times in a match?

There are also moments when the opposition would NEVER play a particular card unless they knew their partner was short suited and would take the trick.

Why do I get the impression that this particular un-randomness is more about their ego rather than real world play?
Kraze9,
The WORST Partners
I realize that it’s a programmed set of instructions that the other “players” are using... but come on! When you have to sit out, due to your partner going alone, only for them to get euchred time and time again?! Also, when they don’t lay ace on your non-faced card, but instead lay off!

Aside from very annoying playing habits of the computer generated partner, this game is pretty awesome. Ads are pretty easy to skip over and they only come up after a completed game.

☝🏼 dev request: remove the random AVAudioSession attempts! Or at least when there is a session active in another application 🎧 - 5 stars if you can make that happen in the next update!

Am I Imagining Repetitious Deals?
After many hours of play, I am convinced the same card distributions occur much more frequently than probability would predict. Game play and outcome varies off of these deals only when I change my responses and, then, with worse results more times than not. I am not a mathematician but it seems to me the random distribution (shuffling) of 24 cards would defy such repetition in hands dealt. Am I just imagining this? If I am, I will rate this app higher. If I am correct in this observation, this is a bug that, like the poor card play of the computer players referenced in so many ratings, needs to be fixed.
