Description
At last, the game that teaches you the basics of utai, or the Japanese Classical Noh Drama singing, has finally arrived! Now everyone can learn and enjoy the art of this UNESCO intangible world heritage. Have you ever tried to sing the Noh libretto? Even if you haven't, through games and practice this app will teach you everything you need to know about the tones, modes of singing, pronunciation and more. Perform what you've learned in front of your virtual audience and watch their reactions. Who knows, you may receive a badge if you perform well. Do you have what it takes to become a Noh superstar?
Highlights:
- Anybody can enjoy the game. The point of the game is to learn the special signs that specify the changes in the pitch of the voice. Follow the colored dots along the seven tones of singing or guess where they should be by interpreting the special signs above the text. The better you sing, the bigger your fan club gets. Can you guess who will join next?
- A practical lesson in Noh. We have chosen songs from the most famous and the most auspicious plays of the Noh repertoire. Each song has a LEARN and a PLAY mode. Use the LEARN mode to practice actual utai, so that you can surprise your friends with a real recital at special occasions. In Japan the song from the play "Takasago" is popular at wedding receptions, because it brings good fortune to the newlywed couple. We have simplified the libretto, based on the Kanze School tradition, so that even children can learn how to sing.
- Test your skills with different difficulty levels. There are three difficulty levels - plum, bamboo and pine. Once you're on your way to clear a difficult level, a rare special guest may come listen to you and give you a badge of honor.
- You can learn about the history of Noh through the guests. Once you've cleared a difficult level, or performed a certain task, a special guest will be added to the virtual VIP lounge. Some of them are characters from the Noh plays, and some of them are actual historical figures related to the history of Noh. Can you collect all special guests?
- New pieces will be added soon. Do you have any requests? Don't hesitate to contact us.
Our goal is to bring the beauty and tradition of the oldest Japanese masked drama closer to the people of the world. We hope you will enjoy this app. Always remember the words of Zeami - "Forget not the mind of the beginner".
