aarxseven,
Will not fire using link cable
My frustrations began right out of the box when prompted to update my Syrp Genie Mini II to latest firmware. Getting the device the maintain it’s connection was a nightmare. However, after some perseverance I successfully updated only to be confronted with a far larger and still unresolved challenge. The link cable simply will not fire my shutter as intended. I have the “2S” cable and attempted to use it to fire both a Sony A7iii and a Sony a6500. I followed Syrp website advice to a tee (I.e. set to manual mode in camera, turn off live view, make sure the cables are firmly pressed in, make sure photo preview is off, reset the Genie Mini ii by long pressing 5-6 seconds, etc.) none of it worked and I followed up by wasting a day trying adjustments with what seems like every setting on my cameras. I’ve never been so frustrated with a software and corresponding device. I really had high hopes for this. So disappointing.
Badger Strider,
Works Good But...
Been using the app and a few of the Syrp products the last few months. Overall it gets the job done and the products are well designed minus the way too easy to accidentally turn on any of the products by hitting the power button - a firmware update should be done to address this where you have to hold the power button for a few seconds and not just barely touch it. If you’re traveling you can basically assume that the jostling caused the product to turn on and lose battery life.

As for the app, a new home screen interface should be done instead of the current setup. For example, the connect devices should be more prominently displayed and the back button shouldn’t be buried into the corner of the screen.

One other app recommendation... adding new features that were promised in the early fall should be pushed out faster. I get it, it takes some time for some coding but 6-8+ months later is a tad slow. Big feature that is needed that was promised is the holy grail time-lapse feature. It’s desperately needed, especially since other companies have it inter grated into their product out of the box. And when the Holy Grail ramping is released, please, PLEASE add sun, moon, North Star, Milky Way center tracking via the GPS location of the phone. It’s already implemented (to some degree) by a third party intervolmeter. One device/app to rule them all would be epic.
ElroyCat,
I like it!
I might not be using this the same way others are but it works very well for panning and tilting a camera for video streaming events. I wish there was a way to connect and control the genies with WiFi instead of Bluetooth. The Bluetooth has range and reliability issues. They can be worked with, but not as rock solid as I would prefer.

Even something simple like, buy a router, set the ssid to xxxxx and the password to xxxxx, then connect the iOS device to that network, connect to the genies and you’re ready to go. I would think that would even make the update process go smoother. I’ve never had an update work on the first try.

Later, you can add a screen to the app to use Bluetooth to let the genie know which WiFi network to use and what the password is. That can wait. I’d gladly put a dedicated WiFi access point in the room with no internet connection just to get some range and connection stability.
Unsatisfied_Facebook_sucks,
Useless.. huge waste of money
Manfrotto what are you doing with this garbage. So disappointed I spent so much money on a product thats completely unusable. The instructions don’t even tell you which app to download and then both of the apps cant find the genie at all. The genie doesn’t power on or off (just powered on all the time) so its just a rubber piece of garbage. I wish it wasn’t. It looked like it was gonna be much better. This makes me question Manfrotto’s other products. Oh and it doesn’t come with the cable to fire the shutter!! What the…. That’s the whole point of the product. So even if it did work I wouldn’t be able to use it until i spent some more money on the cable
badbanterer,
Horrible!
I wasn’t planning on writing a review and if I were, it would’ve been long and detailed regarding the company’s inability to explain even the most basic functions of the software or hardware. I’m talking about how to figure out ease in and ease out values. What are max and min speeds of the motors so I can reverse engineer the ease in/out question.

I was supposedly a beta tester, yet they never gave me any info or documentation in addition to what the units came with.

I’m afraid I’d also tell folks to look elsewhere. It’s a shame, because the hardware actually had promise.
Bob I,
Finally figured out firmware update
I was frustrated like many but I finally got the firmware to complete its update. I turned off my phones WiFi assist and placed the phone as close as possible to each genie 2 mini. I made sure only one was powered on for each firmware upgrade. It worked! I had my phone literally leaning up against the genie 2 mini and did not get a module failure.

I gave this a three star rating. 5 stars for its smooth operation. 1 star for the firmware update process. It shouldn’t be this hard! But once updated, the genie 2 mini pan and tilt works great.

Endless bugs
This app works so poorly. I’m using the genie mini, just trying to execute basic pans for video. Constant disconnects, and worse, the record button often doesn’t appear at all after resync. Using the app every day in the field, I have to say that it’s truly awful. The old beta Genie app was way more reliable, worked in portrait mode, and was just all around superior. I’ve been a Syrp loyalist for years but this pain of using this app compelled me to write this review.
superdeluxe,
Terrible products
The Syrp 2 app does not work at all on my phone, making all my Syrp devices into bricks. very expensive bricks. it crashes upon opening. every time. maybe this issue will be resolved someday but the bigger issue will not be ...

Syrp makes unreliable equipment, supported by extremely unreliable software. avoid this company at all costs, their products fail at the most basic need for any equipment of this type - reliable dependable performance.
Brendan Wiltse,
App Crashes
The app won’t even open on iOS 14. It crashes immediately. So continues the long legacy of horrible software from Syrp and the continuation of their of making really nice hardware that are no more useful than a paper weight. Worst investment I’ve ever made. I would sell all of my gear but I would feel the guilt Syrp clearly doesn’t have about taking someone’s money.
samixydian,
Firmware update will ruin your shoot
The firmware update will most likely fail and then you can’t use the product. I have spent HOURS trying to fix this for a job and just don’t know what to do. Website is no help - it even acknowledges it will probably fail and says “keep trying”. Come on... make something that works!
