Description
Taceo is a memory game that can be played using only the sense of touch.
A remix of the classic Simon electronic memory game, Taceo is built to be a step towards games accessible for everyone. Most games are built to test the player's observation skills through their senses of sight and hearing, leaving them unavailable for people with visual or aural disabilities. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 7.5% of people are visually impaired or have low vision and over 5% of people are deaf. It is challenging for this 12.5% of the population to enjoy modern entertainment in the same way that unimpaired people do. Taceo was designed to be accessible and fun for everyone, regardless of their impairments.
Our solution to this problem is the utilization of vibrations. The player feels a series of vibrations, each one indicating a different gesture that they must remember.
WARNING: This app's vibrations rely on the iPhone's haptic engine, which is only built into the iPhone 7 and later models. Any earlier iPhones will not be able to use the vibrations.
Instructions:
The first time you open the app, a tutorial will be shown. This tutorial can be accessed any time by swiping up on the home screen. This tutorial will review the rules of the game, as well as demonstrate the 4 different vibrations and their corresponding gestures.
A short vibration corresponds to the "tap" gesture. It indicates that the player must tap the screen quickly.
A longer vibration corresponds to the "press" gesture. It indicates that the player must briefly press and hold their finger on the screen.
A longer vibration that starts weak and ends strong corresponds to the "vertical swipe" gesture. It indicates that the player must swipe their finger either up or down on the screen.
A longer vibration that starts strong and ends weak corresponds to the "horizontal swipe" gesture. It indicates that the player must swipe their finger either left or right on the screen.
A vibration with 3 pulses indicates that a round or turn is beginning or ending. A 3-pulsed vibration with a longer middle vibration indicates that the game is over.
Tap anywhere on the home screen to begin the game. First, the round-start vibration will be played, followed by a sequence of vibrations with corresponding gestures. At the beginning of the game, there is only one vibration in the sequence. After the sequence is finished playing, the round-start vibration will play again, and it will be your turn to input the exact sequence. You must then input the correct gestures in the correct order of the sequence to move onto the next turn. After each successful turn, another gesture is added to the sequence, getting more and more difficult to remember. If you fail to input the sequence correctly, the game is over.
After you play a game, the game will vibrate once for each turn you won before you lost. If you would like to retry, you can swipe left on the game over screen to replay your high score sequence. Otherwise, you can swipe right to return to the home screen or tap anywhere to play again.
Thank you for installing our app! We look forward to creating more.
