Description

From TechInSpecialEd.com: "This is a winner! 5/5 stars for a well thought out, organized app which addresses an important aspect of language development in an engaging and unique fashion. Well done!"

“Tell me everything you can about a cat.” How can you answer that? This app helps children identify which information is important about an object and then provides a way to apply this knowledge in an expressive, narrative language task. It is designed to be used with an adult to assist with scoring the expressive task, if data tracking is desired.

Check out our Youtube demo video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JfrWmca3H0

This Pro Edition allows up to 30 users’ information/data to be stored. It is designed for children ages 6-12, but can be adapted for younger and older users. It is perfect for children who need practice with defining, describing, vocabulary development, explaining, and understanding salient features (what’s important) about an object or place. It also offers an excellent way to integrate articulation and fluency practice!

How to Play with the Guess Boxes: Touch “Play” to begin. (*Set up a user first if you want to collect data) A photo of an object appears in a box on the screen. The user is asked to read/listen to four sentences and find the one that tells the most specific and important information about that object. For example, the first Guess Box sentence choices for cat includes: “A cat is a little thing you find in a tree”, “A cat is the cutest animal”, “A cat is an animal that has eyes and ears”, or “A cat is an animal that lives inside or outside a home” (most specific and correct). Subsequent Guess Boxes add more details, including the fact that it can be a pet, has fur, claws and whiskers, etc. Incorrect Guess Box choices reflect common errors often provided by students including unimportant details (“A cat has a tongue”) personal opinion, information that is too vague, inaccurate, semantically weak, or only correct in specific cases. You can decide to include 3, 5 or 7 total details. The child’s score is kept if desired. As the correct sentence is identified, it is transferred to the Talk About It Box for review. An animated curtain screen allows the user to open and close it so the child can try to remember them and prepare for the recording/expressive activity that comes next.

How to Play with the Talk About It Recording Activity: After the Guess Boxes have been completed, all the correct details are in the Talk About It Box. Touch “Show” under the box to reveal the collection of correct details and rehearse before recording. When ready to record, the child can touch “Start” below the microphone to begin recording. The curtain will automatically close so that the expressive task is done from memory without looking at the sentences. The “Clues” below can be touched if the child needs help. Touch “Stop” when finished. The curtain will open again and reveal the sentences. Play back the recording and touch the sentences that were correctly remembered to receive a point. The child’s score is kept if desired.

Slp in mn,
Good for vocabulary.
A unique app which focuses on picking precise descriptions. Includes receptive and expressive portions. Works better for readers. Would like to see some visuals with sentences and the directions can be a bit lengthy.
Pattibslp,
Great app- needs update
This app will not be supported soon unless it gets an update.

Nicely Done
I have found this app quite useful in helping students work on determining appropriate details as well as recall. I like the options of recording the child's own voice during recall mode. I like that everything can be listened to as opposed to read. My biggest complaint would be the lack of choices in narrator voices as children on the spectrum often have a very definite opinion of voices. The narrator voice in this app is absolutely wonderful in intonation and realistic quality of sound (ie-not robotic) and has been liked by all so far but offering more than one choice could be beneficial. One complaint I have had by students is the lack of control in the game mode. It is basically touching the button and the ball is tossed. This factor does remove frustration from the game aspect but to some kiddos it makes the game less fun. They all still enjoy the game as it is, however, so really it is still a win:-) Overall, I love this app and HIGHLY recommend it. It is a wonderful tool for teachers, parents, learning coaches, and anyone trying to help a child unlock their fullest potential. Thank you for providing it. I use it every day!
speechlanguageplay,
This is a great app for expanding expressive language!
This app is great for students who are able to answer questions about object features with some prompts and cues, and for students who need assitance with recalling the details of being able to describe an object using several features. My students have liked this game and have begun predicting what the next question they will be asked. Thanks for creating another great app.

Great for expressive language
I'm using this to work on expressive language with my high school students. It's hard to find apps for them at aren't too babyish. They like this one, especially hearing their own voices. I am also using it with my fluency students.
SLPNTR,
Great!
This is going to be a very useful app, since many of my students have describing, categorizing and defining goals. They enjoy the game and really enjoy the spinner. I hope you'll be doing more talk about it apps!
Kacmu90,
Wonderful app!
This app is well thought out. It's a great tool for teaching the concepts of defining words, and deciding what is the most important feature that defines the word. Kids LOVE it! Thanks for a fabulous app!
EJN916,
Great app!
Looking forward to using this app with my students. It will be great for helping students identify salient features of an object as well as practicing memory strategies.
School Speech,
Excellent
Great app for both receptive and expressive language. Also good for test taking strategies of choosing BEST answer. Well worth $10 with all that you can do with it.
KllBlunt,
Great App!
I absolutely love this app! My students that I work with finds it fun, yet challenging to talk about different objects by remembering the information they chose. Great addition to my bag of apps!
