icelolly,
Excellent app!
Edited for 29th Oct 2014 update:
It seems like the update has ruined the search-as-you-type function such that it doesn't allow you to find common foods anymore. To solve this, you need to turn off the search-as-you-type function and all will be fixed. You can find this under settings. This will solve the problem of being unable to find regular foods. My biggest problem with the new version is that it now looks wonky on my screen as opposed to the way it was before. But I'll keep using this for the functionality and because I have 5 years of data on it. Sure it's not as fancy as MFP or Lose It, and sure it could do with updates to the food database at least once a year, but it's pretty solid and works offline and generates cool graphs and trend data.

Old Review:
I use this app daily to monitor my calorie intake, weight, and exercise activity. It's also a great mobile calorie count app because on the iPod Touch, it works offline i.e. Doesn't require a wifi hotspot. The calorie count library is pretty extensive but there's always room for growth. I've had this app for about 2 years now and I can say that the developpers have updated it a lot since then and added more foods and menu items to the library and generally improved the app. So I am ever hopeful that they continue to do so. But this is an awesome app, better than most of the others available (I've had like 3 including Lose It, so I'm not just saying so)...
Dead_eye_sam,
Minor issues
Great app but I am surprised they have not included some basic sports like boxing. I am also confused when I search for an item like banana it brings multiple results with one being of a different size or portion but when I search bananas (with an s) it brings up the one and has in it a way to select size and number. It happens to other search results and may get confusing. It's just a minor organization and consolidation issue. Also not enough using if measurements. Finally, I'm not sure, but I wish there was a units converter in app to help if a product has a different unit than what the app offers like almond breeze milk servings is in cups but in app it is in fluid ounces.
anon0913,
Love the app, but they aren't updating
To the developer, if you're reading this:
I hope you will consider updating the app. According to a system message, it will not be supported in iOS 11 and, per a previous message, isn't fully supported in iOS 10. This is, by far, the best app I've found for tracking calories in, calories out, and weight. I love the clean design where it isn't cluttered by all sorts of things I don't care about. I just installed an app I have heard great things about, MyFitnessPal, to see if it would work for me, and it is super bloated and full of prompts and all sorts of extraneous stuff. I just want a -simple- and -clean- app to log my progress. I don't want community interface, articles, ads, etc. Tap&Track has been perfect for me, even though the food database doesn't always have what I need since I can just plug in custom numbers that are at least in the ballpark, and if it isn't brought current, I'm going to miss it.

Previously over weight person
OK. Now I'll rate it at a five again. Now that they fixed the "update". I'll be more careful about when I hit update in future. This is the best calorie counter.
Only concern is they might be giving too many burned calories for exercices. After all you burn calories doing nothing and you burn more when you exercise but you have to subtract the doing nothing ones from the exercise ones and I don't think they do it in the app, so you end up giving yourself more credit for exercices than you really earned, double dipping so to speak, and if you eat up to calories burned you could hose yourself on weight loss. I count lowest effort and only credit myself half. I asked once but did not get clear answer about it which is why I don't think they subtract resting calories you'd use anyway from exercise calories. Otherwise I love it.
Lfreader,
Easy to use, good database
This app is simple to learn and has really helped me lose weight. The database of foods includes lots of brands, restaurants, and ethnic items. You can report portions as small as 1/8 of a serving and see calories adjust accordingly, define calories for recipes you make frequently, and categorize a mealtime other than the default label. For example, when I eat at 3 pm some days that is my dinner, not afternoon snack, and I can re-assign the default label to say dinner.

The ability to customize a profile for your own changing metabolism and exercise is useful, because losing weight over time makes the body resistant.

I wish there was more information available about what the Food Score is measuring and what target numbers to shoot for. Other than that, the developers have an excellent FAQ section and kindly answer users' Qs within a couple days.
virago22,
Best app out there!!
Update 2 yrs later: In total I lost 65 lbs while using this app. I've gained 20lbs back so I'm using it again. I love this app. So helpful in keeping track.

Update: I have been using the app since January and so far I have lost 34 lbs. This app let's me look at what a restaurant has and the calorie count BEFORE I get there. This allows me make a smart decision about my meal instead of getting carried away with something that looks good on the menu. I truly think this is the best app out there. You can build recipes and add items not listed very easily. I recommend it to all of my friends who are looking to lose weight or just maintain. This app is MUCH better than the free ones you can find!!

I wish you could separate the portions differently but so far I've lost 10lbs. It helps keep me from snacking b/c I can see how many cals I have left for the day.
Hate tweets,
Tap and track
Update:
I am upgrading to 5 star because this is after trying many other apps still the very best way to track weight and be able to see how calories, exercise, and your weight interact. Once you figure out what food search term quirks it has it works extremely well and the graphs are very useful. Ignore the Apple update notices; it still works.

Works reasonably well. Graph function for weight is helpful. Generally easy to use. Only problem is that when you type in a simple food name like "cream" it tends to list a lot of brand name complex products (like Miggles lowfat orange banana creme joysticks etc) first and foremost. It can be difficult to find simple generic items.
CherylF,
Great app, could use a few features
Update: I downgraded my rating because the search function no longer works and the fix that another reviewer mentioned does not fix it. Really annoying to have to thumb-type every single entry. Browsing works but the database is extremely limited.

I use this app often to keep track of carbs and calories and protein. It's a great app. It would be better if I could scan items and if I could import food nutrition from another app. Lately, my food search started coming up 0, even for common foods. Someone here commented on how to fix that so I'll try. The database still needs updating. I couldn't find any nutrisystem foods or protein drinks. But it does give you a chance to manually enter. That is why a scanning feature would be good -- the database could automatically be updated accurately.
susan hygienist,
Great App Easy To Use
I love this app because you can put in your measurements/weight, say how much you want to lose, gain or maintain. Then as you plug in your food/drinks/snack and what have you, it keeps track.... so that you will meet your goal. The BEST part is that if you integrate exercise (such as even walking), it gives you the allowable "extra" calories you can intake that day!! So by dinner if I have 250 calories left in my day... I can do a 30 minute exercise so that I can have extra allowable calories, and then enjoy a more fuller meal at dinner! It's truly amazing!!
Kyle Kiel,
Latest updates ruined a great tool
Bag this and use MyFitnessPal. Free, maintained, cross platform dynamic, and much deeper & well maintained database. Problems that have surfaced for me follow below.

With updates, can't use predictive text and access databases.

Have been able to synch data in over 3500 entries. App informs that my device isn't logged in. Far as I know , I never logged it out. No way to log the device in without starting over. It also directs contacting the developer. I have tried by email and going to their website. No response.

Past review of 5:
Flexible, allows adding entire "meals" for input to save time over entering individual items. Can add foods not already in data base. Set tracking to measure balance between fat, protein, and carb uptake reporting each as a % of 100. Inputting exercise, painting, mowing the grass, sex, or shopping increases daily available calories that can be consumed. If my program allows me 1300 cals to loose 2 pounds a week and I do an hour on the elliptical, I get credit for 300 calories burned, allowing me 1600 cals and still be on my 2# per week pace. After using it for a couple of weeks, the interface is quite easy to work with.
