What is the TAPR-CPM App?
The TAPR-CPM App (Tapering And Patient-Reported Outcomes for Chronic Pain Management Application) was created to help patients manage chronic pain while working with their doctor to reduce medication use.
Patients can:
• Share weekly pain scores with their doctor
• Monitor their taper plan and progress
• Track daily activities that impact their pain
• Learn new ways to manage their pain
TAPR-CPM is an application designed to help improve chronic pain management while participating in evidence based tapering. Through collecting responses to weekly surveys about how intense the pain is and how it may be interfering with daily activities, the TAPR-CPM app can help the patient stay connected to their doctor during the tapering process and help the patient feel more included in the decision making discussions with their doctor.
The TAPR-CPM app is safe and easy to use. Features include a daily journal where patients can track their daily mood and activities, mark daily pain on a body map, and learn more about their pain patterns over time. The app also gives access to resources to help the patient in their tapering journey, including: what to expect when tapering, the experiences of others during tapering, and social support resources.
The responses to the weekly pain surveys can be shared with the patient’s doctor so that scores can be reviewed during the next visit. Through the app the doctor has the ability to share updated medication and activities plans with the patient.
Who made the TAPR-CPM App?
The TAPR CPM app was co-created by MedStar Health National Center for Human Factors in Healthcare, a multidisciplinary team that works to improve safety, efficiency and quality in healthcare, and Perk Health, a digital health company focused on human centered design and the psychology of behavior change. The TAPR-CPM app was funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).
