WHAT IS TAYLORSENSE?

TaylorSense is an optional add-on feature for your Taylor guitar. A smart battery box that replaces any 9V battery box in a Taylor guitar, TaylorSense uses sensors to monitor the humidity, temperature and battery life of your guitar along with any potentially damaging physical impact it suffers, and sends alert messages to your phone via the Taylor Guitars App when care is needed for your instrument.

TaylorSense Features:

DASHBOARD - The central hub for your TaylorSense data displays all the vital signs of any connected guitar on one screen.

HUMIDITY - A digital hygrometer monitors the humidity of your Taylor guitar. If the levels become too low or high, you’ll receive an alert.

TEMPERATURE - Exposure to extreme heat or cold can damage a guitar. TaylorSense alerts you if the temperature becomes dangerous for your guitar.

BATTERY - TaylorSense lets you check the battery life of your onboard pickup anytime through the app, so you’ll always know where you stand.

IMPACT - TaylorSense will alert you if your guitar suffers a serious blow and record the time of the impact so you can inspect it for damage.

New Life Rider,
TaylorSense
I have 3 Taylor Guitars on my TaylorSense system. It helps me automatically monitor 3 essential areas of my guitars Health and Performance: 1) Humidity - living in Colorado Springs or any other dry climate knowing that your humidification system is keeping your instrument between 40-60% humidity is vital. This was not that important when living in Southern Louisiana, but crucial in Western states. 2) Battery Life - when your battery life gets below 30% TaylorSense gives you a warning. Nothing is worse than having your battery die during a plugged in performance. 3) Impact Incidents - the system provides you with documentation of the time and severity of the impact event. This documentation helps you prove to third party handlers (think airlines) of your instrument that in fact they were the cause of this impact incident while in care, custody and control of your guitar. It is also helpful in processing a claim with your own insurance company if you have your guitar insured on a Personal Articles Floater attached to your Homeowners or Renters Insurance policy. The system is very easy to install in your guitar with step by step audio videos provided Taylor and help provided by their customer service area to help you along the way. At less than $100 per system this is a great asset to have on board your guitar. Enjoy! David Joffrion Colorado Springs, CO

Keeps your guitar safe from bad conditions
Keeping your guitar in the right humidity and temperature range is the most important thing you can do to keep your guitar safe. TaylorSense alerts you to when you need to make a change before a broken guitar tells you, after it is too late. The history of hourly readings is kept and displayable so you can determine if you are close. The device also tells if your guitar has suffered impact. That won’t help you avoid the impact but will alert you to check over the guitar to make sure it is structurally ok and will help explain any new dings.
The only negative I have is something easily fixed by Taylor, I need to get my glasses to see the numbers. The text contrast is low, the ability to view in landscape is not available and zoom is not allowed. Fix that and it is perfect.
spacedad61,
If you really care….
It’s an unfortunate truth of life today that we spend so much time on our phones. That’s where I receive emails, texts, alerts, notifications; it’s where I order food and how I monitor who is coming and going in my house. That said, what better place to keep track of my prized Taylor guitars? It’s way too easy to forget to check your guitars humidity on a regular basis, so this is the perfect way to keep that in front of you before it’s too late. I have two units hooked up: one for my K24ce and one for my Taylor 12 string. The same app keeps track of both guitars, so it just could not be easier. Definitely worth the price!
iHike2,
A little buggy
I have the Taylor Sense app to monitor two Taylor guitars that I own, and had installed it on two previous guitars that I’ve sold. I like having the ability to monitor humidity and battery life. My only complaint is that one of the units occasionally returns a false low temperature, and/or high or low humidity. I haven’t been able to isolate a trigger for these events, so troubleshooting is a little difficult. I don’t use any of the other functions, so can’t really comment on them. I would recommend, and have recommended it to a friend. Bru

A follow-up - it’s been two or three years now, since my initial review, and both of my TaylorSense units are still working well. The previously described glitch seems to be rectified.
not surprised 227,
If you love your Taylor !
Re: Taylor’s, in-guitar sensors for temperature, humidity, and impacts. I would love to have one of these In each of my guitars, and I really like knowing, at a glance, what my battery level is. Saves me money, as I no longer put new batteries in for every gig.
The daily, weekly, and monthly charting of - temperature, humidity and physical impacts gives me the information I need whether my guitars are in transit, or storage.
It also has Bluetooth so it can send you notifications if something’s not right.
Could Taylor design a device that you can put in your guitar cases for your other guitars. The Bluetooth notification is the “crux of the biscuit”.
Hokyfan,
Best way to protect a Taylor Guitar
I’ve used hygrometers in my guitar cases for decades. Some fit in different parts of the case - some are in humidifiers that fit in the sound hole - but these are limited when the guitar is out of the case or being played.
The Taylor Sense app monitors the guitar 24/7 and lets you know the guitar’s condition no matter where the guitar is, in your hands, in the case, hanging on a wall or in a guitar stand.
Getting notifications when the state of the guitar is out of range let’s you know you need to get the guitar into a place where the humidity or temperature are in range - stopping potential damage before it starts!
Lens Bender,
I’m Glad I Got It
I had my 814ce with ES1 for 16 years and have been fanatic when it comes to monitoring humidity. I installed TaylorSense four months ago, and it has made life much simpler.

I experienced a snag during installation when the instructions said at one point that an LED on the circuit board should flash, five times I think it said, when connecting the battery. I saw no flash. After several days I realized that there was an LED on the ES1 board and another LED on the TaylorSense board. I don’t recall which one was supposed to flash, but knowing there was another one solved the problem. I saw the flashes.

The installation instructions should be revised to identify the correct LED.

Also, I have not yet received a notification that either humidity or temperature is too high, because that hasn’t happened. Still, I open the app at least once a week to check on my baby inside her case in another room. Works great. After four months, the app is telling me that the battery is at 60%.
WallDesign,
Highly recommend- here’s why…
Previously, I had no idea exactly where my guitar humidification was at. I had a hygrometer, but it did not work as I had thought. It turns out that the numbers were off. My guitar humidification was a lot different.
With the TaylorSense, I can leave my guitars out until the humidification gets low (which it drops very quickly in the winter). Once the humidification gets down to 40, then I put that guitar back in its case and use a couple different humidification methods and bring out one of the others for a few days.
Great app as well.

Great for a Low humidity home
Most of the winter my guitars live in their humidipak treated cases. Same in extreme humidity some of the summer days. TaylorSense and the companion app have been quite good for giving me a sense of what’s going on inside the case and the history tracking gives me lots of data for understanding what’s going on as humidity changes in the house. I have 4 other hygrometers that I can compare to the readings from Taylor. Good news ... TaylorSense remains on target!

1 quirk early on was the app had to be shut down and restarted to get a new reading. This may have been fixed as I seem to be able to leave the app in background and simply bring it to the active screen to get a current reading. I’m a happy user!
C.G. Colorado,
Essential For Me
Living in the dry climate of Colorado the Taylor Sense is an essential tool for me to monitor my guitar’s humidity level. I had the body of an older acoustic crack on me years ago, before I learned how to keep my guitars’ humidity levels up. With the Taylor Sense, I can monitor the humidity level regularly and now I can see when my humidity packs are drying out and I need order new ones. The impact incident function is also great when I travel. I cannot recommend this product enough for people who live in areas that have low humidity. I love knowing that my guitar is safe!
