Description

Many Thai language schools prefer to first teach students to speak. Instead of using Thai script, they write using a transliteration system.

With the iOS keyboard from Thaiphonics, teachers and students can now communicate using this style of writing.

Want to...
• Practice conversations with a classmate?
• Message your teacher?
• Create study cards on your phone?
Thaiphonics gives you the power!

Wait...what is a Transliteration System?
A transliteration system is the translation of a script based language (Thai) into the Roman alphabet (ABC...). This system has many names: transliteration, pronunciation guide, romanization, rendering to the Latin alphabet, transcription, writing phonetically–the list goes on.

Thaiphonics supports all major transliteration systems:
• AUA
• Cœdès transliteration of Thai
• ISO 11940
• Lonely Planet (LP)
• Paiboon+
• Royal Thai General System
• Thai 2 English (T2E)
• Tiger Press Thai
• Teach Yourself Thai (TYT)
• TLC

To accomplish this, Thaiphonics' custom keyboard uses multiple panes to add all the extra characters necessary to write in a transliteration system.
Press "123" and then "#+=" to view each screen.

cvk_cvk,
Dii mâak ləəi!
A very useful keyboard for Thai learners and teachers. Thai phonetic systems like Paiboon+ (which this app supports) are much easier for beginning Thai students than trying to jump right into learning Thai script. Example: “dii mâak ləəi” (“very good, for sure!”) is exactly equivalent to “ดีมากเลย”. Using this keyboard, a beginning Thai learner can write all Thai sounds properly, including the tone marks and vowel length that are required for proper understanding. Thai teachers will love this app for language-practice texting with students.
