BEST beginning reader books - great for autism, ESL, etc
I have tried out hundreds of children’s apps, trying to find things suitable for children, especially for kids who have fallen behind, slow learners, children with autism, second language learners, etc. It was VERY discouraging because of all the pop-ups, the horrible “padlocks” on most of the goodies, the bad pedagogy, the confusing screens, the manipulative “subscriptions.” and even when you pay, getting constant demands for parental sign-ins to “renew your purchases”.
This series of stories is at the top of my “good” list. Very easy to navigate, beautiful, detailed illustrations. The family sharing works flawlessly. You can have the story read out loud to you, in multiple languages, and the words are highlighted as they are red. Then you can read it by yourself, and tap on the words that you don’t know to have them spoken out loud. Then there are games, which, unlike other apps, let you choose your difficulty level, so you can choose a puzzle that only has four pieces, or a matching game that only has two pairs, so even the most timid reader can succeed. The puzzles and matching games take their imagery from the story, so it is all very unified.
