Description

THE INCIDENT is a fast-paced, retro-style action game. Run, dodge and jump your way to safety as an angry rain of just about everything in the world falls and builds a mountain of platforms for you to climb up, up… up to the source of it all: the cause of THE INCIDENT.

"This iPhone/iPad game is really great - get it! $2. It makes me laugh every time I play it." —John Romero, Designer of Wolfenstein 3D, Doom and Quake.

"A game you pick up quickly, but can't put back down." —Engadget

"Gaming's Most Charming Vision of the Apocalypse" —Gizmodo

"The controls work well, the graphics look cool, it's universal from the get go, and I really dig the whole concept behind the game." —Touch Arcade

"Terrific little indie games like this are what make the iPhone platform really shine." —TUAW

THE INCIDENT is easy to pick up but hard to master. It's a totally new gameplay concept and it's perhaps TOO addictive. It's loaded with power-ups, power-downs (d'oh!) and collectables.

Ajooba1982,
Really wish it had touch to move controls

Spankmymoto,
This is a FUN FUN FUN game to play!!!!
After all these years, I got reacquainted with The Incident. Still! A great looking and fun game to play on the iPhone.

I know the game is aging but I would love to see the developer offer support for it again. Namely, controller support for the iPhone. I hope this game never leaves the AppStore and we need more like it. ❤️❤️❤️

Nostalgia
Game is super fun!!!! I remember few years back I played this with my older sister and we loved it. Now I was searching up the game and now I found it! I thought my memory’s were gone forever! But can you change the starting up music? It gives me PTSD lol. Anyways 5 stars!!!
badkitty_,
Hilarious and amusing
I enjoyed trying out this game on my iPad 3 with iOS 6.1.3.

It is fun to see all the ways your character can die. :o

I have a couple of issues:

1. When I tried to minimize the game using the pinch feature on the iPad, the game would not minimize.

2. The default game controller was very confusing to operate. I am a bit of a klutz with games! I did go through the tutorial, but I had trouble figuring out how to make my character jump.

3. How about adding a practice round in the tutorial plus a bit more about how the controller works?

What I really love:

1. It plays in landscape mode. Now make it truly Universal by allowing play in any mode regardless of how the iPad is tilted.

2. It has separate controls for music and game sound effects. THANK YOU!

The game made me guffaw after every round telling me ow I had died. Whatever falls on you kills you. "Death by bicycle." "Death by 36" LCD TV," etc.

SUGGESTION TO THE DEVS: Add achievements in Game Center for every possible way to die. 5 points for each and a Game Center badge for each. "Death by Shopping Cart" should be an achievement. Same for every other type of death. That would make the game more fun!

ONE MAJOR ISSUE: It does not allow me to save a game on the iPad 3 with iOS 6.1.3. I played through to Level 2, minimized the game, and when I returned, it was back at Level 1 with me starting the game as though I had never played it! Devs, please fix.

Fun game!

StellarAirman,
Great polish and attention to detail, but lacks a solid gameplay mechanic
The polish of this app is great from the graphics to the music and all the little details throughout. They captured the retro feel they were going for perfectly.

However it does get very repetitive very quickly and the polish and graphics are not enough to sustain it. Other jumping games are based on a simple gameplay mechanic as well, but the best ones have more power-ups and random elements to keep it interesting through multiple replays. The Incident seems to try to add a story element to the game and create longer levels that just go on and on, rather than a quicker level where you can try to score points which are compared online and you can play the level over and over again to compete for that score. It is stuck in a kind of limbo between trying to have a linear story and just being a simple jumping game where you compare scores, which makes it boring compared to both types of games in my opinion.

With some more variety to the gameplay I think this could really be a standout game. Everything else about the game is fantastic. They just need to put it on a steady foundation of a great gameplay mechanic.
Regifeathers,
Don't get this game!
Normally, I would have given this game four stars, as it's actually pretty good. However, I had been playing it for a little while when I made it to level 2. I had to quit, so I quit. I came back to it a couple days later, and poof my progress is lost . So, I decided, I will just redo lvl 1, no big deal. I touched lvl one, getting ready to play it, when in the blink of an eye, , it crashed back to my home screen. So, I tried again which gave me the same results. And a third time. Crashed to my  screen. Then I thought it may be my iPod, as when I first got it months ago, it had similar problems. They have been long gone though. Ao in my desperate search for answers I ended up here, looking at reviews for this game. And though not many, some  have had this same problem. And it is not my iPod. So, do not buy this game, if you are looking for a game. Buy it if you like the little picture on the app and think it'll blend in nicely next to some other apps on your home screen. But if you are looking for a game, expect it to decide to travel . Though a cool idea, do not get this game, it crashes and does not work!!!!!!!!
punkassjim,
TV out, while great, seems to need refinement
I've been really eager to play with the TV-out feature, since the "iPhone as controller" feature was such a smashing success. Sadly, my first experiences with it aren't going so well. First, the game has a large bar of video noise at the bottom of the picture on the TV. I've got an Apple Component AV Cable, the connections are solid, and video out is fine from other apps.

In addition, it seems I'm required to kill the app in the fast app switcher every time I want to switch from internal video to TV-out, and vice versa. That's no good. Hope it'll change.

Lastly, and honestly this is the only real bummer here: using my iPhone as controller seems to be far, far less responsive, both in terms of accelerometer controls, and taps. I've only noticed this in TV-out mode so far, but I'll report back here once I've had a chance to play without the TV-out.
rotstik,
Love or hate
Some will be turned off by what is seemingly unfair gameplay and difficulty in later levels. The game starts too easy and quickly moves to overwhelming. It takes some experimenting with clearing out junk strategically, knowing when to keep something above for defense or get rid of it, and the weight of different objects. Feeling out of control and at the mercy of cheap deaths could be lessened with some better power-ups and a stronger character. Could we get an endless mode and Openfeint scoring and achievements? Thanks.

The art is wonderfully detailed and animated. The main character looks like a Police Quest extra who has almost negative appeal as a hero. The sound of falling objects is nice, and the music is okay if a bit incongruous, style wise, to the feel of the game.

Patience will reward players of The Incident with a game that is deeper and more rewarding than it seems at first blush.
heyvince,
Simple, Challenging, Elegant
Disclosure: I haven't had any of the stability issues that other reviewers have mentioned, so I can't speak to them.

When I want to show people how awesome the iPad is I show them the ability to control The Incident from the iPhone. Consistently people are blown away, and this is before they are hooked by the gameplay.

The gameplay: It gets hard, but not too soon. I think that a simple game like this needs to get hard, otherwise there is no staying power. So yes it is challenging, but it is the type of game that you can just hop in and out of for 15 minutes at a time. One of the best parts about this game is a dedicated developer that is constantly improving the gameplay: remote, new gameplay options, TV out. I can only hope that this continues.
