In this delightful wordless book, a boy brings home a stray dog and attempts to hide it from his mother. Using body language, facial expressions, and carefully selected sound effects, watch the story unfold and find out why it is called “The Surprise!”
There are 8 chapters in this story. Each chapter’s animation clips runs an average of 15 seconds, allowing the child to describe and retell the story in small increments. The user may replay the entire narrated story from beginning to end via the Table of Contents. You can also watch the original story with or without music accompaniment, email your story including the voice file, or print it out!
There are “Challenge Words” provided for each chapter. These are optional and for more advanced language learners who want to try and put them into their narration. The “Questions” bone provides 3 questions for each chapter. Answers and suggestions for both of these are available in the Information page.
This is the Professional version. Up to 30 users’ voice files and written narration is kept in the program. When a new recording or writing is provided for that user, it erases whatever was previously recorded or written for that user.
Aside from being just plain FUN, this app lends itself well to a host of educational and therapeutic possibilities: practice with articulation, fluency, syntax development, social cognitive skills including perspective-taking and body language/facial expression inference, and much more!

More, more please!
How great is this app! While it is only one story the versatility and the perfect design of this app makes it an exceptional tool for language impaired kids. It has been particularly helpful for some of my autistic students. What I've found is that repeated viewing of individual segments or reviewing the entire story over many sessions is very helpful. The ability to pause the story and look at the facial expressions within the context of a story is wonderful. Hope there will be more stories to come!

Wonderful App with Many Educational Applications!
My intermediate elementary school students love this app. It is perfect for small groups and can address expressive and receptive language, oral and written narrative skills, perspective taking and inferencing. Please make some more stories!

Hamaguchi.......did it again!!
This is another great Hamaguchi app. First I have to say it is FUN! Which means my 6 year old will learn and practice with it! It does all that it claims and works on many different aspects of speech therapy and specific struggles for those on the autism spectrum. I like that it is not a free for all and stays on specific stories. ( We have a more expensive app that is story telling and records but we soon came to find out he could not stay on track and we ended up taking it off his iPad). This app offers so much more and gives a nice framework to use (the chapters). Of course my son likes "what's that smell" and thinks it is hilarious. He is having a blast while we work on getting him to read a situation by looking at the characters expressions and gestures. We can go back and make it a different story which makes him think! I can't say enough good things about this one and hope that updates in the future will offer more chapters!

Amazing!!
Wow! Hamaguchi Apps has done it again! If you have a student or a child who has difficulty developing narratives then you must buy this app. The story app is a sequence of wordless animations (one per chapter) that allows a child to use their imagination to tell their own story. Hamaguchi has provided a recording feature so that students can record then hear their own voices telling the story. Students can also write a story using the blank "paper" area. This app is especially helpful for students who have difficulty reading nonverbal expressions. I have used it specifically to teach students how to look at the characters' faces to interpret feelings and thoughts. After determining feelings, we bring the character's to life by providing thought bubbles for characters (self talk). Example: when the boy looks worried he's thinking, "oh no my mom is going to find out I have a puppy". Excellent!! Excellent!! Excellent!!

Another Hamaguchi Homerun!
This app is so versatile that it should be required in every therapy practice in school. Children can work on learning to make complete and meaningful sentences, inferring meaning from body language and facial expression, articulation, learning how to see the different perspectives being expressed in the story, ability to discern the correct syntax and to practice and hear their progress throughout the story. The clues given and the questions that are provided to draw more out of the story and the child's ability to describe the story are tools that are particularly useful for parents who aren't formally trained in speech therapy, occupational therapy or aren't certified teachers. I found this app to be very useful, bright graphics kept my son's interest and the recording ability is essential for him to hear how he sounds to all around him. Standing ovation for this app!

So cute!
Each screen in this app is an animated scene that tells a non-verbal story. After the action is over, you are given the options to record your voice describing that part of the story and/or to type it in the "write" box. There are also challenge words on each screen to challenge your child when telling that part of the story. So, not only is the child getting practice narrating a story, but also vocabulary practice.
Love the animation in this app- lots of "awwwwww" and "so cuuuuute" squealing from my daughter. And this is good because it distracts her enough from her lack of confidence in speaking to have fun recording her own made up story. Sure, it is a useful app but when it comes down to it, what matters the most is if it engages the child. And this app certainly has my daughter's attention and cooperation. Thanks!

Simply Amazing!!!!!
This is so much better than I expected. I loved it and I am an adult. All the kids loved it as well. You can not help but smile all the way through it. With each "chapter" you record you own versioin of the story. It is a wonder prelude to writing. Your children practice narrating which comes before writing. There are words that you can try to incorporate into the story if you want to challenge your child or student. There are optional questions about each scene, which is also optional. You can listen after each chapter or listen to the whole story after you record yourself. A great way to learn while having a whole lot of fun! An amazing app. Thank you for creating this!

Have your child tell the story for a change!
Having previously tried the free lite version and loving It, I am blown away with is App! I absolutely love any type of technology or game that allows a child to record and hear their own voice and this App does even more than that! Your child can record their own version of the story and get to have it read back to them whenever they want! I love the user friendly features of this App! I especially like the writing section in which your child can write words to the story in addition to his voice! There are also hints and target words that encourage logical thinking! Overall, wonderful App and definitely recommended!

Awesome!!
Already tried the home version and loved it! This version has all the same awesome features and more! I love how the pro version allows for 30 users, which makes it possible for using with groups of students. The information page includes information about ideas for interventions you can use with this app, which is a valuable resource for educators and therapists. I also like how you can email the story, voice recordings, or both. Being able to print out their story is also a great feature!
