Description

Tired of carrying a gear chart to the velodrome every day, or searching the web for one every time you change gears? Then you need a gear calculator on your iPhone and your Apple Watch.

Built by track racers for track racers, the Track Gear Calculator supports chainrings from 44 to 56 teeth and cogs from 12 to 20 teeth. It includes a speed/cadence calculator, and can calculate the next gear up or down using only the gears in your track bag.

Want a bigger gear or a smaller gear? Track Gear Calculator works in reverse, too: just swipe the gear inches, and you'll get a new gear, up or down from where you are, using only the chainrings and cogs you have with you. You can also select from the standard 27" nominal method for calculating gears, or more accurate actual wheel diameters, and you can see results in either Imperial gear inches or Metric development.

Change wheel diameters (the Lindsay): Now you can select from the standard 27" nominal method for calculating gears, or more accurate actual wheel diameters.

New FTUX (the Tara): It seems a lot of users haven't figured out that you can swipe the gear itself to increment gears up and down. Since we think this is the coolest part of the app, we've made it a little easier to find.

Usability fix (the Cathy): got rid of a bug that caused weirdness if you swipe the gear inches really fast. Because weirdness is, you know, bad. At least in UI elements it is.

Even more new stuff, all user-requested:

Customize your track bag (the Ian): Set up which gears should be available via swiping, so the calculator never suggests a gear you can't pull out of your track bag and put on your bike.

Even more gears (the Jennie): 56 tooth chainring added, for when 55 teeth just aren't enough.

Tons of new stuff, all user-inspired:

New feature (the Matti): Want to know the next gear up from your normal race gear? Swipe the gear inch measurement to move up or down in gears.

Usability improvement (the Rob): Gear selection wheels are now both tapable and swipeable.

New gears (the Jamie): 44, 54, and 55 tooth chainrings added.

50volt,
Beautiful App, please expand range
This app is very nicely executed, and I get that it’s intended for track cyclists, but simply make the gear ranges larger and you have a Five Star App.
Mathieu Achim,
WYSIWYG
There is not much to say here, the app is very bare bones, but in the best way possible. The interface is very slick, and does exactly what you want to do with great ease. I really enjoyed the simplistic, minimal user interface. All of the options in the settings menu give you everything you need from the type of measurements (imperial/metric), to their where you marry you speed (mph/kph).

I highly recommend this app for being one of the best and easiest to use gear ratio calculators.

The only thing this app is missing, and it might be because I'm blind and didn't find it right away, is a skid patch calculator.
Bpille,
Could be so much better
Great concept, simple gear calculator to remind me of my gear options.

Please tell me why the Apple Watch version does not take the chainring/cog preferences from the phone app setup?

The watch app is useless without that feature.
Rob McDaniel,
The Best App I Have Ever Used
Before getting this app, I was hopelessly disorganized and apathetic, a deep apathy that effected everything in my life and caused many anguished nights spent staring into the dark emptiness of my lonely existence, a worthless life filled with fear, and regret.

But then a bright ray of sunshine came through the clouds. The day I installed this app, my girlfriend came back to me, my children started doing their homework, and everyone who had ever wronged me died simultaneously in a string of righteous and fiery accidents, their last thoughts being how sorry they were for things they had done to me and regret for failing to make amends until it was too late.

My strength grew exponentially from the defeat of my enemies and enabled me to crush my boss's presentation like a Viking. My team was so impressed by my sudden mental acuity that they promoted me, and old friends came out of the wood-work to cherish me and celebrate my many accomplishments. My sudden rise to executive management and eventual takeover of the board is still talked about in awed, hushed tones to this day.

Seeing my enemies crushed before me and my life's work complete, I relaxed in my throne to hear the sweet lamentations of their women and ponder what would have been without the sorcery of this fantastic gear calculator.

Thank you, Mr. Herz. You, sir, are a wizard.
