NathanZachariah,
Love This App!!
I am a new trail runner so I have found this app incredibly helpful! I had no idea that there are so many wonderful places to run and this make makes them accessible to everyone! I’m so happy to be able to log my runs, contribute reviews and photos to the community of runners, and get to know the natural beauty of my state. I think running outdoors is going to really help me this year - especially considering that many activities are closed due to the pandemic. Thank you so much to all of those who contributed to the creation of this wonderful app!
DuncanN04,
Mostly a great app
We primarily use this app when running or hiking in unfamiliar terrain. It’s a great way to check location via GPS if you think you may have gotten turned around when deciding to try a new trail with poor signage or missing blazes. Also a pretty good option for looking up running options when traveling. My one beef is that some of the trails available on the website (including popular race routes) don’t show up in the app. In some cases you can even download a GPX file of the route from the desktop website, but you can’t load it into the app, and the trail/route doesn’t show up in app. Seems weird for Trail Run Project to have complete, downloadable GPX data for routes but for them not to be included for use with app.
Dirt_Church_Revival,
My go-to adventure map
I have saved myself and a few other lost hikers with this map. Even without a decent signal it can, most of the time, show the basic blue locator dot and trail lines. Super easy to plan stops, distances, connector trails using the satellite image. People cannot believe it’s free. I worked at Rei and no one knew about it. Elevation profile on the main page, being able to highlight each section is just beautiful. I cant say enough about it.
Kella doo,
Missing the old version a lot
I LOVED using this app in the prior version. It was the best. The new version has been disappointing to say the least. After trying to use the map to find trails in certain areas of my home state I’ve just given up - the map is touchy and the screen/trails seems to refresh every time I move the map just a little bit, and not in a good way. The old version used to very concisely list the trails in whatever part of the map you were in...now there’s a scrolling set of trails you have to try to make your way through on an already touchy screen. Like other commenters, I’m all for improvements, but there was a ton of great functionality on the previous version that’s gone, making this app barely usable.
ShineOnHealth,
Have loved this app for forever and shared with all my running clients and friends
I love how the gps signals your on the map regardless of having phone signal or not, as it’s a GREAT SAFETY FEATURE!!

There’s so many maps and profiles of trails to help you understand where you’re headed to and to prepare, along with imbedded driving routes via google maps which is super convenient!

I recommend it always to friends, my ShineOnHealth Coaching clients and strangers I meet out on the trails!
WildOak,
Great app! No cell data connection needed
Great app with good guidance, good info from others, and I love that, once you download the maps, you don’t need a cell data signal to use the app. This is very helpful in remote areas with poor cell service. The app still gives you a live specific and generally accurate location on the screen. That makes it harder to get lost.
MichaelaLeach,
I have no complaints.
I’m an avid trail runner and in Colorado there are literally hundred of trails within an hour of me. This has been amazing at helping me find all the hidden gems! If you are just trying to discover new trails or have been trail running for a while GET THIS a APP.

Best features:
The feature that takes you directly to google maps to find trail heads. It makes planning routes and deciding which trails are worth my time so much easier.

Updated trail conditions, which is super helpful in the spring and winter months

Ability to add trails to a “to do list”

The descriptions are so detailed from elevation maps, personal reviews and tips, pictures.
ajlark,
Great idea, poor execution
Love the idea behind this app, and I use it frequently, but it’s so sloppy for the resources REI has. You can’t add photos via the app, which is annoying. Lots of trails are missing/doubled or start/end in the middle of another trial (which might not be the apps fault, but maybe they can link them all together?). Driving directions is super nice, but sometimes they don’t lead to the right spot (again, probably based on poor information given to the app).
Calllllllllllll never,
A great app for planning fun routes
I use this app all the time to plan routes for outings. I like to use it on the go too, if I download areas before hand I usually can use the gpx tracks even in the wilderness. The elevation profiles are very helpful, especially the green/yellow/red zones which show you which sections are runnable.
wfrodgers25,
Looking for trails, not roads.
I live outside of the Fort Bragg, NC area; nearby St Pauls, NC.

The first day I used this app, I drove 45 minutes to discover the “trail” on this app was nothing more than a long stretch of highway. Also, the app doesn’t have the few existing trails I know of. I’d bet this app is fine for areas where trail running is already popular, but for folks that don’t live in the mountains, there still isn’t an app worth downloading. Hope that changes in the future.
