Subitizing is “instantly seeing how many.” It is the ability to visualize a small amount of objects and know how many there are without counting. It is what tells you what number you roll on a six sided dice. Subitizing is a fundamental skill in the development of young children’s understanding of numbers. Preschool and kindergarten teachers should incorporate activities that strengthen this capability in their young students.
