Description

Return to the world of TRISM.

In July 2008, Steve Demeter launched his indie game TRISM the first day the AppStore opened. TRISM went on to chart in the Top 10 overall for many months, winning a landslide of industry awards. Among a number of media appearances, Apple featured Steve in an Apple keynote as the first of their AppStore developer showcase documentaries.

Released ten years to the day since TRISM and the AppStore first launched, TRISM 2 is a return to form in AppStore gaming. Offering a level of vision and uniqueness that could only be achieved via an indie passion project, TRISM 2 boasts a fully interactive open world, deep narrative storyline, branching subquests, multiple endings, and episodic content.

An Original Sequel to a Timeless Classic - with one flaw
I’m a huge fan of Trism! I remember watching the Apple doc. they made for the developer! Trism was one my favorite games and one of my favorite purchases ever on the AppStore! It’s been 10 years since the original game. I was so excited to hear about this sequel and like how it had a story line and being completely original to the first game! In Trism 2, it’s more of an adventure game with Trism puzzles than a Trism arcade feeling. I wish the developer included an updated Trism Infinism and time trial modes back into Trism 2 as separate game modes! Because sometimes I want to play an arcade version of the game and not an adventure! I still love the adventure game in Trism 2 but I really wish the arcade version of Trism was in the sequel so I can play it on my iPhone X! I still have the old Trism game to play it still but it’s not formatted to fit the screen! Overall, Mr. Demeter you created in heck of a game and I can tell!! So glad you took your time with game and I’m so glad you finished what you started! — thanks from a long time fan! 🎮
KellyGB72,
I've wasted hours of time playing ;)
I see several negative comments, but I like the game and think I will love it when it is finished. To be fair, there were a few issues. I received an error message when connecting to Facebook then the "throbbed" never disappeared after trying to connect so I had to restart. I was disappointed that I couldn't move on after completing the first world, but like that the new world shows the % each section is until complete. Hopefully those %s will increase and we can update soon. IF YOU LOVE THE OLD TRISM this game is the same in principle, but follows a story. Hopefully a new update is on the way.
Foobarsoft,
Feels like a different game
The original Trism was the game I wanted more than any other before I got an iPhone. I played it for literally years.

This doesn’t feel like Trism.

Sure there are triangles in a hexagonal grid, and it’s a puzzle game. But that’s it. You can’t move the rows of pieces, which is what made the original game feel so new and gave it so much of its strategy & depth.

Instead this is basically a match 3 game on a tilt.

The app feels SLOW. It spends so much time playing long animations that it often gives me a ‘please wait’ indicator. Trism never did that. It’s incredibly frustrating.

The game stops my music/podcast, even with sounds disabled. At one point it re-enabled music while I was playing. When you get stuck and bombs fill the field it doesn’t ensure that you’ll have a playable move afterward, so you can get stuck. It’s not always clear where to go for he next level.

If you pass a level too fast you can’t earn all the stars, putting you in the position of trying to AVOID winning to get your score up.

This feels like a candy crush clone made by someone who saw a screenshot of the original game.

I’m sorry. I know it’s been in development for a long time. When I saw there was a sequel, even though I saw it had been changed to have a story, I bought it instantly.

But the core gameplay doesn’t feel the same.
Hoodat Whatzit,
Why?
So this is my fault for not reading reviews but hey... it’s Trism II right? If people like this then I am happy for them but it is nothing like the original. Original Trism is simple, elegant, and endlessly playable. No cartoon characters and clicking through speech bubbles between levels. Fun orientation mechanics. No “story” to play through. This looks like a hundred other match games with cute characters and levels. I think I made it through 4 boards before I’d had enough and came to provide my review. I don’t normally leave any review that isn’t positive but if the developers are going to appeal to Original Trism players.. then I hope others like me don’t rush in and purchase without reading reviews. I don’t care about the three bucks I spent to learn my lesson. I just want to know why you would so completely change a game? Now excuse me while I go play a real Trism game.
JoeyBlaze88,
I waited 10 years...... for this??
The original Trism was easily my favorite puzzle game on iOS. I probably put over 100 hours into it, just trying to get all of the achievements. When I heard the creator was making a sequel, I got so excited! ......that was 10 years ago. 10 years later and the game finally releases, and I’m sorry to say, it’s pretty horrible. Also, the game only has 1 level! It’s about an hour or so of gameplay before there’s nothing left to do. I was shocked when after an hour I got a message saying “updates coming soon”. Are you kidding me? I paid $2.99 for what is essentially a demo that took 10 years to create. Demiforce should honestly be ashamed of this. Is that hour of gameplay fun at least? No. It’s a boring extremely generic puzzle game in comparison to the original. The game is riddled with bugs as well. What a shame, I waited a long time for this one.
teh_spazz,
Very different than the original
Fans of the original should not purchase this expecting similar gameplay. It is not anything at all like the original.

That being said, it is an novel interpretation of an old concept. The gameplay is solid. The cutesy art style is a little heavy handed at times, but it’s overall a fun and enjoyable game. Not quite the simple runaway success of the original, but still fun in its own right.
sleeplessny,
I’d love it if it weren’t so glitchy
As a longtime obsessive fan of the first iteration of this game, I couldn’t help but get sucked in, despite the vastly different mechanics. However, there remain so many glitches, the end result is disappointing. For instance, I have twice now “purchased” blue eyes as a power-up. However when trying to use this, it appears I only own RED. Some goals or items also seem impossible (or ready for an eventual add-in update?). In world amber (or whatever it’s called), there is a chest for which there is no key. Yet in jade, I have a key for which there is no chest! Many of the goals are also unclear—such as to do things quickly. Well, HOW quickly? There is no way of knowing. Please fix!!
13utt3rflies,
Is a awesome game. But could be so much better!!
First off hats off to demiforce for making this game available. I am really enjoying the story line. I started playing the original trism. I think that the developer is great by keeping the original trism so it’s playable update after update that Apple puts out.

Okay onto why I didn’t rate this game 5 stars.
1. Lots of bugs and game crashes a lot.
2. I completed all the levels and they didn’t mention that this is a working progress. I passed off the first boss excitedly anticipating the next area then boom a advertisement for the next update. I hope I don’t have to wait another 10 years for the next update. There coming soon. Was not my idea of coming soon. On the plus side the update is free.

3. The boss level has strobe lights which gave me a migraine. Not fun.
XeoKeri,
Addicting
As someone who has played the original Trism on the first generation iPhone, I do love this game just as much as the first version. Would love to see that when redoing a level that you don’t have to wait for the flashy animation and the text to fade in and out before starting. Other than that, the game is an excellent sequel.
Wharffy,
Barely Trism
I agree with so many here that this game is so far from the original that it barely feels like Trism at all!

The sliding portion of the original is what made it so unique and unlike others, I played it for years. I would argue that the original Trism has one of highest replayability of any puzzle game out there.

I want quick play also, not an adventure game, I just want to play a puzzle game real quick, not read a storyline which I skip most of the time so I can play the actual game, but the actual game is sad and doesn't have hardly any elements from the original.

I also waited 10 years too, checking social media every few months. Update the original Trism, add some new playability and update for newer phones and I'd be glad to give you some MORE money.
