Description

Quick demo see: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojYMoCI1KmM or www.ukulele.nl

UkeMaster for the iPhone is a continuation of Sheep-Entertainment's Ukulele Chord Finder on the internet which has been well known since 1998.

You can choose your own tuning, D-tuning, C-tuning, baritone and more. You can also easily tune your ukulele using the pitch-pipe.

UkeMaster helps you to find both basic and advanced chords, more than 40 chordtypes in total. Basic and advanced chords are colored different so you can easily distinguish them.

You can find more ways to play a chord anywhere on the fretboard by clicking the hand. First the most basic fingering is shown after clicking a chord-type or root-note. By clicking the hand you will find fingerings higher up the fretboard.

The found chord shows you the relative note for every finger-position. This way you learn how the chord is built and teaches you how to built chords yourself. The root-note of the chord is labeled as 'R', the others show you the name of the interval relative to the root-note.

Different chords often overlap. For example C m7b5 can be the same fingering as D# m6. By clicking the chordname you can loop through these chords and see how they are built, eg. where is the root.

You can also find chordnames by clicking positions on the fretboard and see which chord they make. This way you also learn how chords are related to each other. For example start with a C7, click one fret above 5 and get a C7#5.

To hear how the chord sounds simply strum over the soundhole.

You can use UkeMaster in three different orientations. In portrait it shows the chords as in sheet music. In landscape it can show the chords as if you are looking at your own ukulele or as if you are looking at someone else.

Some chords have more than 4 notes in them, but on the ukulele you only have four strings. Therefore some notes are omitted. Mostly the 5th can be omitted without changing the sound very much. Sometimes even the root can be omitted, but especially when there are other instruments around that already play it.

CraigS63,
Great uke chord finder!
For each of the 12 keys, there are 42 chords provided (in multiple positions/shapes, by clicking the Hand icon). I like the ability to “strum” the strings and hear what the chord “should” sound like, as well as the multiple tunings provided. As another review pointed out, you can click on the frets you are holding, and it will usually show what that chord is (it didn’t recognize 2-0-0-2 as a 7th though).

Developers: please consider adding either a “user defined” tuning, or maybe a way to transpose (I just got a sopranino uke tuned cFAD and haven’t got the hang of the thing yet!
Vit-G,
Great app ro ukulele chords!
Excellent app! Pick a chord and view the fretboard fingering. Gives you the (R)oot of the chord! Can pick positions on fretboard and it will tell you the name of chord! Shows multiple different positions along fretboard for the same chord! Just figured this last feature after having program for few weeks -- scroll along the different chord variations to find what you're looking for -- eg C#9 or D13!
Really quite a spectacular app! Kudos to developers! A great bargain even at $4.99!
Feelin' Fogey,
Worth it!
I've tried a few other uke apps, one that I like quite well. But when I saw that the Sheep Ent. chord finder was finally available I had to get it. I've been using the site for years and I'm excited to have a mobile version now. I like the ability to click additional notes and modify the chords. I LOVE the multiple uke types, since I just dusted off my baritone. Having worked on an app myself (Fogey-Fu--just .99 cents) I know what a bargain this is.

Perfect app!
This app is perfect for anyone playing a uke. You can even pluck the strings to hear the notes or strum all 4 strings to hear the chord, which is awesome. Another cool feature is how you can touch the fretboard where you want to "hold down a finger" and make up your own chord configurations!
PS. To show how easy this app is to use, I learned these things within 2 minutes of use.
BDD3,
Please help the lefties!
I really like this app. I actually bought it because of the flexibility in chord display. However I have to work a bit harder to read the chords because the chords are displayed for right-handed play, and I play left-handed. I hope the developer would one day consider including display options for right or left handed play, as other apps do. Other than that I think this app is very well done, but have to give 4 stars for now. I'll be playing and waiting.... Please help the lefties!
CANDELAPRODS,
Great first release
This is a really good first release of a really well thought out idea. I am wondering why I bought that chord book now.... Plus I can instantly switch key which is great going back and forth between different Ukuleles.
I like the way you can spell out a chord and the app tells you what it is. Also everything is on one page, no scrolling through the big wheel that so many other apps use. This way is much better for this app.
Ok heres the Cons.. It's a little pricey for an app.. But again cheaper than a chord book and with me always.

Suggestion... Developer needs to make the fretboard dots a little darker or put fret numbers along side the fretboard to make it a quicker read when looking for shapes higher up the neck.
Also include a Tuner with the App, not just a pitch pipe... who the hell uses them anymore..

Best Uke Chord App
This is a good one. Can't figure out what chord you're playing, touch the interface in the shape you're using and the fret you're on, and bingo, the name of the chord. Want to know how to play it up the fretboard, touch the hand symbol.

I've used this free on my computer for years, it's good to have it on something a little more portable, and 3.99 is pretty low for all the years I've used it.
Libagrouchy,
Player
I love this app. I play by ear and have simply found my way to chords by experimenting. So I often don't know what chord I'm playing. This app solves the problem perfectly by telling me what the fingering is. Helps me to share chords when jamming with others. I've never had it crash on my iPhone.
Ukelarry,
Uke Chord Finder
I belong to a uke group of about a dozen players. We have found this APP to be great when we are presented with new chords that enable us to give the songs a better tonality.

It also let's you experiment with different fingerlings as you move up the neck. And you can't beat the price!
einklarinette,
Pitch pipe
I disagree with the other comments about the pitch pipe. Yes a tuner would be great, but please don't take away the pitch pipe! A Tiber wouldn't be supported by iPod touch. Also what kind of musician are you if you can't tune by ear? It's good for you.
Otherwise I love the app but think it is too pricey. I put off buying this for a year because I didn't like the price.
