Unique was made for fun and vibes: Analogue sound, intense modulation and a killer set of features, delivering an amazing sonic spectrum that’s full of character: Classy sounds, powerful, warm… sometimes gritty.
Each of the 2 oscillators offers a selection of 5 waveforms: sawtooth and pulse waves are here, along with noise, triple saw and triple FM waves. There's also an additional sub-oscillator strapped into the master section for added oomph.
The internal controllers will bring in the dynamics: an LFO and an envelope, there's a recordable XY field & a sequencer. Use these to modulate any knob – a simple long tap will do.
The sound springs to life when it hits the filter section. Needless to say, analogue high-pass, low-pass and band-pass varieties are in place, along with a comb filter.
Standards aside, the actual intention behind this project, the Vowel Filter, also became its outstanding feature: string together two or four vowel formants and play them back in a multitude of ways.
Once you’ve built your sound, there’s tons of sound polish in two chained multi-effect units.

Good sound...
Still wicked laggy, even on iPhone 7 Plus.

Works Great For Me
It seems like people think the more complex a synth is the better. That may be true if you’re into endless tweaking for sound design. Been there, done that. Nowadays I just want to make songs without spending a lot of time tweaking. So I choose a preset that sounds good to me, tweak it a little and the next thing I know inspiration strikes. That’s Unique for me. No issues with performance in NS2 either. Sugar Bytes stuff is always good!

Super laggy on iPhone 6+
After all this time i would have expected they figured out how to make this synth run smoother on the newer devices. Still as laggy as on my iPad Pro. My older iPad Air 1 is the only device that i own on which this synth runs smooth. Go figure... the more powerful and newer the device the more laggy this app runs.
It really has held me back using this app that often as my other synths. I can't recommend this app for anyone that has a newer iPhone or iPad.

iPhone X issues
I really want to love this synth. It sounds great, looks gorgeous. But it’s barely usable on an iPhone X. The iPhone’s slide bar thing gets in the way, and the whole synth is shifted in a bizarre way on the screen. Most other synths handle the iPhone X just fine. Also a bummer that they don’t have a dedicated iPad version. There’s so much promise and great thought put into the design but it looks like iOS support is an afterthought.

Outstanding synth, needs slight tweaking
I love unique. Making great sounds with little effort is the best trait of Unique. The interface is intuitive and makes producing with Unique a joy. The problem is it's laggy, a little laggy on my iPhone 6 Plus and even more laggy on my 7 plus. Unique is usable on the 6 plus but on my 7 plus, I'll have to wait for an update to use it normally. Seems like a small fix (hopefully anyway) that I'll be glad to see soon.

Really laggy visually.
I'm running IPhone 7plus 256gb and this synth is super unresponsive and slow. Big disappointment. I have all of Sugar Bytes plugins. I really like them and they sound and run great. This is the first bad one I've got. I have Unique for my MacBook and use it with Ableton Live 9 with no issues ever. This is a different UI than the original. Hopefully this just needs some easy work by them to be as good as the rest. Fingers crossed!!!
Update: As of 11-25-17 this synth is still unusable on my 256gb iPhone 7 Plus. It is a lot better now, but still completely unusable. The lag issues are just insane. No idea why this hasn’t been fixed!!!! I love Sugar Bytes stuff, in fact I just bought a bunch more of their newest stuff for my studio on Black Friday because it’s fantastic on my Mac. So, come on Sugar Bytes get your act together on this port to iPhone!!!
