Jam _i_Am,
Makes me feel less alone and cheaper than therapy
Don’t get me wrong. I am not a social outcast or unpopular. I have a strong social group who I’m always able to have a good time with. But recently I’ve found it harder and harder to turn my brain off around others and just relax and enjoy myself like I used to. A lot of the things that I stress about have to do with my personal relationships and the people I’m closest with, so it’s hard to vent to those very people. Unmasked is a godsend because I AM talking to those same people that feel the same way, but they don’t know it’s me. The anonymity is so freeing. I will say though that this app gives you what you put into it, so don’t expect to magically feel happy until you fully and honestly open yourself up. And hey what’s to lose, it’s completely free and anonymous. Going to therapy can be a pain sometimes and unmasked has really helped me when I can’t get to my therapist.
Soso samosa,
Less pressure to conform, more freedom to be yourself
This app isn’t perfect. There aren’t too many people using the app so responses can vary in length and turnaround time. But especially in a setting where words like isolation and social distancing become synonymous, it’s a god send. The best part is that everybody is anonymous. At times it feels like an invisible army is always present on the other side of the screen waiting to offer kind and supportive words. I’ve personally found it difficult to be kind with myself in the past, however I’ve been feeling a lot better recently due in part to the support I’ve gotten on this app. No worries, frustrations, or thoughts are off limits and no matter what you say guarantee there is someone who either has a similar experience as you or can validate your emotions. This is what we need to happen in real life, but over an app platform is a pretty good start too.
I<3temple,
This community is pure gold.
I wish everyone had access to this app and the opportunity to use it daily. Not gonna lie, when I first heard about it, I wasn’t interested. I was scared that the administration would see my data and didn’t want to use my phone any more than absolutely necessary.

As I learned more about this revolutionary mental health movement, however, the more I started to see the value in having a supportive, anonymous community comprised of my peers. This app has renewed my faith in humanity more times than I can keep count of. It has given me perspective on the struggles that others are going through. Moreover, it’s been a tool for self-reflection and an empowering avenue for me to tangibly support others.

The connections I’ve made with other users are so meaningful because I know they are students who dwell on the same campus as me. But more importantly, the conversations and posts on the app are so human because people can be radically honest about their lives.

Thank you for creating this. The world is a better place because of this community.
rosietinks,
Impressed!
I am not one to usually publicly review things, but I feel like I need to express my gratitude for this app. I still can’t believe the outpouring of support and kindness I’ve witnessed while being a user on this app. People are being vulnerable and raw which can obviously be so scary, but the responses to those sometimes un-talked about topics have been so empathetic, which is definitely helped by the anonymity of the users. The insight and tone of the majority of the posts/comments honestly give me hope for our generation. Thank you to all those users and supporters for making such a welcoming, healthy environment!
stressed college being,
I hope this grows
I always have felt we needed something like this on campus. Between the things I tell my friends and the point I need professional help, there is this serious gap in mental health resources and this might just be the solution. Knowing it’s members of my campus and community makes it relatable so I don’t feel alone while keeping it anonymous helps me feel better about being vulnerable/honest. I hope every college campus gets access to this incredible resource in the future
dusttpan,
great resource!!!!!
i downloaded this app kind of on a whim assuming that i would never use it but it’s great. i don’t have notifications on but i remember it every time i get sad. it is really nice to share your thoughts and feelings and get responses from people that feel so unconditional and really constructive/helpful. it is nice to know that other people are feeling the same way during the pandemic, school, and in general. it is also nice to be able to support people the best you can through a comment, a tip, some advice, a message, or just some recognition of their emotions so they know they’re not alone. i also feel very safe since it is all anonymous. it’s really great that you can pick your school too so you know it’s your peers and you feel more connected.

Lawsuit waiting to happen
I wish I could give zero stars. I totally support open conversation about mental health and as someone who has experienced a fair amount of it, I like seeing people share in those experiences. What I dislike about this app is the total lack of mediating of advice giving. People are totally unqualified to be giving advice here, to sometimes very serious problems. I think if people could post and others could react with emojis or something, but not words, and only licensed clinicians could reply, that would be way better. But I’m guessing the app doesn’t want to spend the money on real mental health resources such as clinicians.
EmoryStudent24,
Great Way to Vent
This app is literally a game changer - I’ve really enjoyed using it. I think it’s such a productive way to talk about our problems and get feedback from people without feeling ashamed of what your going through because it’s anonymous. I’d recommend to any student - whether or not you’re suffering with mental health because it’s also a fantastic way to help others. Love it so much!
he_shall_be_mysquishy,
Absolutely incredible
An amazing platform to truly be yourself, completely unmasked. I’ve made so many connections through this app! Going to a big school can be overwhelming at times, but having a place to vent and connect with others who are going through something similar is so important and this app is exactly that. Download— you won’t regret!!
maskedreview,
Helpful for me and the community
This app has been a great place for me to share my anxieties and/or random thoughts or questions when I don’t want to be a burden to my friends. I also feel like I’m genuinely helping the community by connecting with other users by commenting on their posts and messaging them with resources and support, whatever they need.
