Description
Every time you send a photo from Messages, you're sending the recipient your current location. If you're at home, you're sending your personal home address. Your location is automatically tagged to your photos, whether you take it from the Camera or select it from the Photo Library.
Other privacy-sensitive metadata is attached, like the time you took the photo, what kind of iPhone you have, and even which direction you were facing.
If you send a Live Photo, the recipient can see a video 1 second before and after the photo, which could include sensitive or private information on your desk, screen, or in the mirror.
Private Photos removes the location and timestamp metadata from your photos so you can feel comfortable sharing your experiences without comprising your privacy.
Private Photos only removes privacy-sensitive metadata such as location and timestamps but keeps important metadata like image orientation, resolution, and color so that your pictures render perfectly and the recipient never knows that you've protected your pictures.
Private Photos also removes the video from Live Photos, so you only send the photo and not the surrounding video which could accidentally pick up sensitive data on your desk, on your screen, or in the mirror.
Private Photos does NOT remove the location and timestamp from the original photo, only the copy sent via Messages. This way, you can still maintain the location and timestamp of your photos for yourself, while protecting your privacy when you choose to share your photos. Private Photos also does not alter the original Live Photo.
Private Photos respects your privacy and does not collect or store user data or analytics.
