Exhilarating
I am enjoying this app so much. It’s challenging and different each time. I play the computer opponent and the different levels keep it challenging or easy. It’s a fair app as you aren’t forced to buy purchases to use it or get further in the game. It’s a personal choice to purchase hints, etc, but not a necessity. The upgrade without ads was the only purchase I made and well worth it.
As an older adult, it’s bringing me enjoyment and keeping my mind sharp.
I had the board game 35 years ago and played it with my stepdaughter. To this day she attributes Upwards for her stellar spelling ability as well as limitless vocabulary that’s helped immensely as an adult w/her career and also throughout her school years. How important this game shaped her little mind at the time wasn’t even a thought but these fun word games do have that impact.
But all that aside, it’s great fun! And I love not having to add the points! It’s all automatic. No cheating, no dictionaries to see if it’s spelled right or if it’s a real word, it automatically does it for you. Love it, it’s my favorite word game!

Pay to skip commercials!!
Fun game to play with people who live at a distance or, for example, during a pandemic when you can’t go to your neighbor’s house for the real game. You can play up to 4 in person, just pass the iPad (it didn’t show up well on my iPhone 6) or invite one person remotely to play. Virtually playing worked well because I could pair up and easily work with another person if the other “one player” were in a different house or state. I really, really, really appreciate the option of paying for the app and not suffering through the commercials but others can choose to watch the commercials. Thanks!

My favorite word game
I love this game, it can move quickly when playing a live player. Also no lag playing the computer. I love how it’s so streamlined without animation or silly promotional gimmicks. A dictionary in the game would be great though.
I do question the honesty of level 3 computer play. It seems like the computer wins by giving a really bad mix of letters to the live player and good ones to itself! I do always have an automated game going with my live ones, I wish they added it to the next play cue at the end of the internet challengers.

Glitches since iOS upgrade/Word List
This has been a long-time fav until recent iOS upgrade. At first, my friend and I could get past the freezes by rebooting or reinstalling the app. Now that doesn’t even work. Fix the game, and we will gladly resume playing.

Now, how do we add or remove words to the acceptable word list? Who decides? Some words that are in Webster and American Heritage are routinely rejected. Occasionally, I come across a word that is in neither of those dictionaries that’s accepted. What gives? And how can we, the players, help?

A dimension better than scrabble… literally
First, we (my husband and I) have been playing this game for a few years now. We love it. We also own the physical game, but somehow, that never comes out of the closet, LOL. So the game is great and the format is great.
What’s BETTER than great is the support. We had an issue recently with Facebook logins. When I sent a very short email to support, I got a personalized reply that my problem had been FIXED in LESS THAN 40 MINUTES. That’s unheard of. I couldn’t be more pleased.

Really fun word game!
I like it because there is really no way to cheat at this game except using a dictionary. Not sure how they validate their qualifying words, though. I wish they would update the app to win letters or make moves. They have an online version but never play on a computer anymore so I have no idea what options are available. Everyone plays on their phone these days so need adapt the game to reflect what the players want. Otherwise, I have been playing for years and will continue to do so!

Great game
I enjoy Upwords very much and I'm glad I paid to remove ads many years ago. So why give 3 stars? Because ever since Glow was added (I love it!) I've requested that it stay on until you move a letter to change the word you created. It goes off so fast I have to click multiple times to check whether all the words I'm trying to make at once are correct. Also, as others have mentioned, we need to be able to exchange at least 3 letters without a penalty. I often get 6 or even 7 consonants for multiple turns. Or the opposite, 6 vowels such as UUU OOI. The game isn't fun at that point.

I have been searching for a long time for a more dignified, word game I can play with friends, without all the hoo-ha, manipulating players into spending money, changing valid words, enticing players to cheat and allowing slang words. You know who I’m talking about. This game is just what I’ve been looking for. If you appreciate standards, learning what the rules are snd trusting them not to change regularly, you will love this game. I do!

Fun game, but…
Upwards is a fun game to play. But this iteration has issues that are somewhat troublesome. There is no way that the tiles are distributed randomly. I am dealt the Q, Z, J, and X in nearly every game. if I receive one of those early in the game, with great certainty, I know I will get the rest of them throughout that match.
Further, on the stats analysis of player performance, it is disturbing to receive five points after a win, and yet be hit with a 47 point reduction in the statistical ranking, from one loss. And that is even after winning nine of the 10 previous matches. Clearly, there are some aspects of the game that are just not fair.

If you like word games and are determined to learn a weird vocabulary, do UPWORDS! i am hooked! Sometimes I beat HAL when I don’t get all consonants. Where are the tournaments O Found competition online Now I can stay up all night Ruin my health And have so much fun! Helen The only occasional issue is that I can add a letter, get a potential score, then add two and get a lower score! Explain that!
