cleazys,
Amazing Platform, Terrible Mobile Experience
I love the Verbling platform because it enables me to learn foreign languages in the comfort of my own home. However, it’s only great when used on the computer. So many bugs when used on either a Samsung or Apple phone and/or tablet. The orientation of video is confusing and cannot be turned on or off, hard to control settings once the video/audio has started, scheduling on the calendar is a pain and you can’t see all scheduled classes on the grid or just pick a date without going through all the weeks manually. Still lots of features missing to make the app itself 5 stars. The previous session it kept cutting off my connection. I also cannot view .jpg files my teachers have sent me unless I use the computer. Very inconvenient when I’m traveling and still wanna keep my learning going.
jemmyjoe,
Almost…
Verbling’s main service is connecting you with teacher and allowing video lessons. This part of the service is perfectly good. The teacher’s notes are accessible, words are saved and I’ve had no problem connecting to the video or scheduling lessons. But the app it self is kinda hot trash. I’m sure anyone using this just goes to the website once they have a teacher set up. The flash cards VERY frustratingly only allow you to practice five at a time. The text of the answers is cut off. You can’t switch orientation. Very basic functions of an app are missing. I like my teacher and am making progress in my learning a language from Verbling, but this app is annoyingly SO CLOSE to being useable in addition to that.
NewtoTIU,
Unreliable and missing some capabilities
The only good thing I can say about having this app is that I receive notifications for messages and alerts before a class begins. However, every time I try to open a conversation with a student (I’m a teacher on Verbling), the app crashes- even after deleting the app and re-downloading it. Additionally, this app would be much more useful and user friendly if we could 1. View our lessons in a day/week/month calendar view, not a chronological list. And 2. If we could add lessons you our calendar from the app, like we can with the web version.

Overall, the only reason I have this app is because of the notifications
adeline.olberding,
I LOVE IT
I started Verbling with NO CONFIDENCE and not much knowledge! I started because I knew I was leaving for my exchange in Russia in 3 months. I knew the alphabet and a lot of basic phrases. My pronunciation was terrible. And then Katya helped me. I’ve only had 8 lessons so far and I’ve improved more than my past few months on Quizlet, Duolingo, Babbel, and Memrise combined! Verbling has the best system of finding teachers. It took me a while to find the best teacher! I like the feature of choosing my own teacher. It was so convenient. I use the skype on my phone to have a lesson and then pull up the workspace on my computer and it is super convenient. I love this service!
Qawsedef,
Good program, bad app
It is wonderful that Verbling connected me with a great teacher and allows the one on one lessons, however the app on the iPhone leaves a lot to be desired. During the lesson if the teacher writes words for me in the chat function, they do not appear! After the lesson, I can find them but only in a small window at the bottom of my iPhone screen! None of this is a problem on a computer where they appear immediately. Also, on the computer the main screen shows the teacher and a small one that shows what the teacher sees on my camera. But there is no little window on the iPhone. FaceTime does this, but Verbling does not.
Biztracker,
Average bordering on sub-par
I find the web experience perfectly fine, but the mobile app is frustrating for a couple of reasons:

1. You have to manually change your time zone when traveling, instead of just using your iPhones system time (which automatically changes where you are).
Then actually changing the time zone is super buggy.

2. They used to allow Apple Pay and then took it away. Not sure why but it definitely makes the app experience more clunky.

3. When using the calendar function to book a lesson, I commonly run into “invalid date” which means I can’t book a future lesson with my teacher.

Overall it’s clear the mobile app is much lower on the priority list. ITalki had a far superior mobile app.
ProfeALS,
Life changing!
I am already fluent in Spanish because I teach it! Still, I decided to create an account with Verbling to continue improving my language skills and knowledge of different cultures. As a result, I quickly built a friendship with my weekly teacher and I hope to visit her one day in the future! The sky is the limit and it is full of possibilities for us to learn different languages and develop friendships with people in different countries. What are you waiting for?
Jesus Loves You 123,
Slow, backs out and not very organized
It’s very slow no matter if I’m on WiFi or LTE. It repeatedly backs me out and closes the app, not allowing me to get back in. It especially does this with the messaging feature. On the computer you’re able to leave reviews immediately after a lesson, but on the app it doesn’t give you that option. It would be nice if this option was on mobile as well. I’ve been kicked out of lessons and while I’m in the middle of messaging my teacher more then I can count and I’d appreciate it if this was FINALLY fixed. Also, the audio and video quality Isn’t that great, but idk if that’s the app’s fault or just Verbling in general.
kdhindes,
Best language learning platform ever
I’ve been trying to learn Spanish since high school, and I’ve never made much progress. With the AFFORDABLE and high quality 1-on-1 lessons provided by my Verbling teacher, I’ve made significant progress in a very short amount of time. I’m understanding Spanish on a deeper level than I’d ever even come close to reaching before. I HIGHLY recommend this app
Rasyeca,
That was THE BEST Spanish lesson!
I have been trying to learn and speak Spanish for many (too many) years now with little success 😔 I’ve tried so many other methods of learning but I’m getting no where. One Spanish session with Israel Galeano from Costa Rica and he had me speaking and thinking in Spanish more than ever before! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND 😃
