New format is awful
Before now, I gave it a full 5 stars. It had troubles, but it was worth the hassle because of the service it offers. I concur with the negative reviews of the “update”. The categories were used frequently in this home. I no longer have my “keep watching list”. Plus, it will have me (try to) “connect” over and over until I have just given up on it. It will literally say “Success” as I finish it and then goes right back to the sign-in screen as though I never actually did it in the first place - only to have it say “Success!” again and repeat and rinse etc. . It says it is supposed to stream - but doesn’t. It will show my screen - as if it were screen mirroring, and the sound will play from the appleTV, but we still are watching the “still screen” that is on the phone. That went on for over 30 min, trying to watch Counterpart. I was watching Amazing Stories - only for a few minutes at a time. When I tried to use it on streaming to the appleTV, it kept cutting off every few minutes saying that streaming was not available. So, #1, why does it give that as an option and, #2, why would it stream for several minutes at a time before cutting iff and saying that? Today - it won’t allow me to watch it AT ALL. Beyond annoying. There are many many other issues, but these are the ones that stand out the most.

Very Buggy....
I downloaded the other day and find the following issues:

iPad:
1. Graphically, the show thumbnails are MASSIVE and actually take a scroll or two to get to the function buttons - Watch Now, or Filters, etc. (and i’m using the 12.9 in iPad Pro).
2. A more annoying issue is that when the show is playing, the devices day/time, battery, wifi, and menu bar do not disappear. It’s extremely distracting having them present throughout the whole show.
3. The edit bar that showed how your filters impact the show/episode/film was removed for some reason. That used to be a very helpful feature.

Apple TV:
1. Quite simply, I can’t watch anything on it because it either will say there is no internet connectivity upon starting my selection, or if it does finally decide to start my selection, it will play for a few minutes then totally take over my Apple TV by freezing it on a full screen message stating, “We’re sorry there was an error”, or something of that nature. I actually need to restart my device to get it to close the app.

I understand needing to make updates, but these items are so blatant i’m not sure how/why this version was released.

My go-to for streaming
I cannot believe there are so few reviews on here. I have been using Vidangel for the past few years. There are some hiccups now and then with the app losing verification with streaming services but nothing that is too inconvenient. It’s our families go-to for watching most streaming content. The app does not have licensing for HBO or Disney products but I don’t miss those shows anyway. There’s plenty of good content available to choose from and they are frequently uploading new content to view. The process is easy to set up, you can set broad filters to remove all of a specific content you want filtered and also manage individual filters as well if you want to allow certain filters for a specific movie. So easy and so seamless, you can hardly tell when something was removed. Anyway, just wanted to give a recent review since there doesn’t seem to be any on here. I recommend Vidangel to all my family and friends. It’s worth it.

We LOVE VidAngel
For thirty some cents a day WE (not “Hollywood”) get to choose exactly what enters our home, our minds, & the minds of our children. It’s so worth it, y’all! To be able to watch grown up movies in the presence of our kids, & not have to worry about what they’ll hear or see, is wonderful! To get to watch things as a family that don’t have to be “kid” shows/movies, that’s so nice for parents and teenagers.
To honestly address some of the complaints on here—Yes, sometimes it doesn’t send to the tv the first time. We just “disconnect” and try again. Worst case, we just restart our fire stick and/or app. That may take, what, two minutes… or less? So not a big deal. And no, they don’t have every show/movie, but they’re constantly adding new content. Recently, a new Netflix series I was looking forward to was on VidAngel the same day it released!
We just love this service. It may not be perfect, but what it does is far more significant than any occasional glitch.

Optimistic
I'm going to give an optimistic 5 star based on a few experiences.
First, I was disappointed by the apps removal from Roku. I had just found it at the time and had to cancel.

Next, I later tried it again, and Cast it from the phone. This not only offered fairly bleak footage (from Casting) but was pretty glitchy as others describe. Note: you can help the bleakness of Cast video by changing your tv picture settings to Vivid mode, etc. but who wants to do this all the time? So I cancelled.

Third, once I had a television that came with Google Play I was able to load the VidAngel app directly onto my smart TV. This has been a very user-friendly way to watch the programs and is working without glitches at this time. I believe using the app is the best way to go. There is a slight change in the brightness when viewing on my TV versus through Netflix.

However a nice perk I noticed is if I adjust the picture settings to vivid mode for the VidAngel app this change remains within the app only, and then reverts back to my usual settings when I exit the app. I like that.

At this time I give it five stars because of the reason it brought us all here in the first place. The idea. Hopefully the execution of it holds up. So far, a resounding yes.

GREAT SERVICE. Crappy app.
What this company allows me to do is why I give it even one star. It’s an entertainment night saver. I have a massive library to watch now. I love that. HOWEVER I’m reviewing the app here. Not the amazing service. It needs work. First, WHAT IN THE WORLD happened to the watchlist?!? It takes forever to find something now because I can only see a few titles at a time. I want to see more like before so I can find what I want to watch easier. Second, WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO FAST FORWARD. without doing so in 10 second increments when streamed to a tv. It takes forever to get to a further point in a movie if I have to resume another day. Third, if I open click a video in my watch list and then go back, it shouldn’t bring me all the way back to the top of the watchlist. Fix these things and you get 5 stars 🙂🤩 thanks for the amazing service though. I love it. Just hate using the app.

Excellent family-friendly service!
VidAngel gives power back to parents and families by giving us control of what we view in our household. The service and app work well on my iPhone and steaming to my AppleTV using “Sent to TV”. Note the native AppleTV did not work.

Filters for language, violence, and sexual content give parents fine grain control that allows my kids as young as 6 to view the same movies as my teenager. Excellent service and product! Thank you for staying in business despite the lawsuits from Hollywood! We absolutely love VidAngel and use it every week.

doesn’t work
Waste of money. We have the year long subscription but regret it completely. It used to work but something changed. Now, I’ll pull it up, cast it, watch something for maybe three minutes before the loading icon starts, video stops, and it never resumes. So I’ll exit out, restart and it just says there is no tv to cast to. I was doing it literally two minutes earlier. It’s not a wifi issue. It’s not user error. It’s the app. It does not work. Waste of money, waste of time. So disappointed because we were so excited but it is such a loss and we would not recommend to anyone.

EDIT UPDATE we did reach out to someone, she was unable to help us. She told us she would be connecting us with someone who could assist. And then we never heard back. This was several weeks ago.

Family Staple
I have recommended VidAngel to friends for years! While the selection is not as comprehensive as ClearPlay, the granularity of filtering far surpasses any other option on the market. Believe me. I have spent countless hours looking at filtering options. VidAngel is also the ONLY filtering service worth anything on smartphones and tablets. I find the app to be intuitive. I do have feature recommendations (ping me VidAngel product managers if you’re interested), but overall I give this service and this app a solid 5 stars. Keep it up dev team.

Going downhill
I’ve been using this service for about 2 years now and I don’t remember it being as difficult as it is to use now. I am constantly being logged out and having to reload, occasionally even having to change my Netflix password just to log back in. About 4 out of five times you will be able to stream fine. However. Oftentimes the app will glitch and buffer indefinitely. I have experimented with this by trying to stream on Netflix while vidangel loads and Netflix will always stream immediately with no buffering. vidangel will buffer almost every time you try to stream but it’s not unbearable. I think the app could be worth it if it is improved but it needs a lot of work.
