Changed rules.
It appears this developer has just instituted a program where the previous functions of the software, which they advertised and which we had already bought, are now available only if we agree to steep ongoing dues. I think this bait and switch should be, and probably is, illegal.
I’m shocked Apple allows this. For my part, I intend to submit to the California State Department of Consumer Affairs for further investigation. If my understanding is correct they should be ashamed. If I misunderstand, I welcome hearing from the manufacturer to tell me how to correct this misunderstanding. ?

Ridiculous
This is in no way worth $10 per month. The older versions were one time purchases. You bought the first one, and you got a great app with full features. Then later, you had to pay up to $10 to upgrade to the video version. Cool, you buy a new feature. Still good. They update periodically. Then, they make this one that does the same shoot as the other one, but it’s $10 a month like streaming services. The other version you bought was abandoned. If you didnt have it installed on the phone, you couldnt get it back even though you paid for it. Not unheard of, but do they offer the new version to the legacy customers under the same purchase they had already made like a good company? Nope.
Guys, when you change pricing, it’s annoying, but understandable, but generally, companies stop offering the original price but still honor the price for everyone who had bought it before the change. It could be a little different if it was a whole new functionality, but this is the same thing. This may be technically legal, but it is scummy and I don’t support it.

Change from a one time price to subscription.
Many of us bought this as a one-time purchase of a completely unlimited use product, to then have it updated to only store 20 files and then a monthly subscription to have unlimited storage. The company got greedy and lost a LOT of customers over this.
It’s very disappointing, they have come out with a few versions of the app and I’d bought them because I liked what they were doing, until this… Very shady and disappointing.
Lucky for all of us, there are lots of developers who DON’T do this, so this company can become a relic while more relevant developers make programs that do what we want for a one time purchase price. Word of mouth goes both ways, can help a company, or hurt it. This is a company I’d never recommend.

How not to Upgrade an App! **(Update)**
With the removal of “Video Safe 2” from the App Store for download, I’ve restored my original negative review of “Video Safe 3”
If you sort the reviews by “most recent” and read the many 1 star reviews, your have a good idea what my objections are to this upgrade. I see no reason to repeat what other previous owner/reviewers of this app have already said in their reviews about this release.
I just have a hard time understanding how taking away functionality, that your longtime user base have already paid for and which aren’t restored by a nonfunctional restore button. Then asking for an excessively priced subscription as the only way to restore the previous app functionality thus angering many of your previous paid customer base, is in the developer’s long term financial interest?
The answer to the previous question, if you had an doubts is, “IT’S NOT”! Which is why I’ve already started looking for a replacement app and won’t be buying any future apps this developer might offer in the future!
Because, I’m sure your familiar with the old saying, “Fool me once, shame on you! Fool me twice shame on me!”.

Did not backup my local files in VS2 ALL FILES LOST
I read that the developer can tell apple if it needs to backup local files. It seems they stopped at some point. When I upgraded from iPhone 11 to 12, I lost all my pics in VS2. Tried restoring my phone 3 times with 3 different backups and they are not coming back. Looks like they are lost forever. Don’t trust this developer. They don’t respond if you contact them. I also tried installing VS3 to see if that would bring back the files and it did not even the ridiculous paid version didn’t work. VS1 worked fine and had all my backed up data after the upgrade. Been using it for 10 years at least. I highly recommend avoiding this app. I will update my review if I get my content back. But it is highly unlikely!!!!!!

Files were lost
Just lost everything after my phone updated to the new IOS software. I have emailed the support team immediately as I need this information as it pertains to important files for work related purposes. I cannot believe I lost all the info. Please respond and update so hopefully I can retrieve my files and not lose my job. These files contain important pictures that need to be used in the court of law. Please update and help. I have always used this app and never had issues with it. Co-workers and I share files for open court cases. I NEED THESE FILES!!! Please PLEASE help me. Please respond ASAP. I just need these files.

Screwed again by the developer!
Paid for full version of VS2 when it came out. Now it is unavailable to download onto my new iPhone 12. Instead they have put out VS3 and want to charge almost $50 a year! Insane! I have almost stopped buying apps because of this same thing. Many of these money hungry app developers have done this screwing over their customers just like “Fuelly” did. It’s like buying a car from the dealer with a lifetime warranty then the next week you go there and they have changed their name so your warranty is void and have to pay for all the services that were promised to you in the beginning. Abysmal!

Old purchases not easily restored
Like other users have mentioned... I’ve purchased this app multiple times over the years. Now the app I’ve already paid for (Video Safe 2) has been removed from the App Store, only to be replaced by the EXACT SAME app Video Safe 3 with the same functionality. Only difference is the added monthly subscription to do what my paid app already did.
An old review said you can have old purchases restored in this version by sending off an email to the support team but I haven’t gotten a response yet. Will gladly change my review/rating if I hear back from them.

Just Don’t!
I had purchased Video Safe 2 several years ago, and loved it, it was a one-time purchase and didn’t require a monthly subscription. I had hundreds of photos and videos stored in that app and didn’t have them stored anywhere else because I assumed that it was good forever since I purchased the app. When they came out with This new version, all of my media was deleted. I would never trust a company again that would do something like that without at least letting me know that I needed to save my media elsewhere. I am beyond upset! If I could give them a negative star rating, I would.

Did someone sabotage this app?
My take of woe: (1) I used VS 2 for many years. Those were happy times! (2) Recently, it started crashing every minute or two! (3) Upgrading to VS 3, it too crashes with regularity. (4) For VS 3, we must pay $10/month. Grrr! (5) The company’s once-helpful website is now just an empty page, with all links circling back to it. Insane! (6) Was the company bought out by another firm? Is the new owner just out to make money, offering a flawed app? Or should I say “fraud app”?
