Description

Video Squishy is a video compression utility. It re-encodes videos recorded by your device into smaller files by reducing their size and/or quality. Unlike other apps, it can queue up videos and compress them in batch.

By compressing your videos you can save precious memory on your device and/or significantly speed up upload times when sharing them online.

The way it works:

1. Select one or more videos from your library's camera roll (or other album) to add to the video queue.

2. Configure the compression settings (output size, video bitrate, audio quality, ...) or select an easy preset that matches your purpose.

3. Tap "Squish" and leave Video Squishy to re-encode the video queue. It will save the new compressed versions back to your camera roll.

4. Use whichever app you like to share the squished videos online and/or delete the originals to free up space.

Note 1: Video Squishy focuses on the task of compressing videos in batch. It does not let you upload or share them. You should use other apps for that.

Note 2: Video Squishy only works with videos natively supported by Apple devices (such as those recorded on the device itself). It will not handle files such as .avi, .mkv files or any with DRM protection (e.g. iTunes purchases).

Version history

2.9.1
2021-11-01
Updates in 2.9.1:

- Updated the app so it functions and looks better on modern devices.
- Updated the support links/contacts.
- Various bug fixes.

To reduce library scan times, consider limiting Video Squishy's access to just a few videos (rather than all of them) in your Photo Library.

Note: iOS 13.0 or above is required for this version and all future versions of Video Squishy.
2.9
2015-01-22
This app has been updated by Apple to display the Apple Watch app icon.

Updates in 2.9:

- Retina HD resolutions for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
- Custom width and height for videos. (Useful for squishing square formats e.g. Vine, Instagram.)
- Custom video and audio bitrates.
- Landscape support for iPhones.
- Improved memory utilisation and (slightly) faster library scanning. *
- Other UI tweaks and fixes.

* We know it's currently a bit slow waiting for library scans. Work is in progress on a much faster scanning routine which will be available in a future update.

** Better workflows are also in the works that will make it easier to identify squished videos and remove originals.

Note: iOS 7.0 or above is required for this version and all future versions of Video Squishy.

Thanks everyone for your support and keep the feedback coming ([email protected] or @frostybadger). Also, please consider leaving us a review - it really helps.

OMPU CO,
Desperately needs an update!
I’ve used this app for years and it’s been great when it worked! It filled a big gap in the iOS ecosystem, which was a proper video compressor/re-encoder app.
However, these days, it’s completely broken on newer devices & OS versions. It’s an absolute shame, considering there’s STILL not much available that had this level of control. It’s been 4 years since the last update, unfortunately, so I’m not very hopeful...
Biophysicist,
Does the Job
A dedicated video compressor. The app is definitely intuitive and user-friendly. The app copies the existing video into a temporary location and then for a brief time, compiles it into a lower-resolution file. When the conversion is complete, you end up with a compiled video that is exported to the camera roll as well as the uncompiled original file. Unfortunately, the process of copying and conversion requires a ton of internal memory; if you want to compress a 45+ minute, 1920x1080 iPad video recording, you will need devote practically 30 GB to do so. I was only able to successfully compress up to 25 minutes of video, which is fine; but for those of you who wish to use this app to compress large videos, the app is impractical. All-in-all, the app does it's job; definitely recommend for videos less than 30 minutes in length.
SailingDreams,
Great app to save memory
I've been using the app for a while now and can't figure out why I got such a poor review by the previous person. The app works well and has Compress videos as expected. One feature I would like to see his ability to delete the large videos from my iphone. I also got the app for my kids so that they cannot reduce the size of their videos.
Kim Votaw,
Perfect!
If you want to manipulate video, this app is a must. Native resolutions are fine but bit rates are not. It is absolutely necessary to use this app first, if you want smooth reverse or frame by frame playback with some of the more high-powered video players in the App Store. Just use the default parameters with 720x480 it's perfect! High definition video works great as well. Thanks Devs!
swash2002,
Great app. Saves time in messaging
Great for downsizing videos or when you want to text or email videos. Needs a bit more work - keeps refreshing the list of videos that can get frustrating. It'd be awesome if there was a direct upload mechanism to TwitVid or some service like that. For now, if the refreshing of video list were to get faster, that'd be a huge improvement.
JFrank36,
Too Slow
It's certainly easy enough to use. However, the slow rate of conversion makes this app not worth it. In today's age, you need speed and quality. I did not wait around to see the quality because the conversion rate was just too slow. I can export the video and compress it with an external program that does it at "light speed" compared to this app.

Would really like a refund.
Storm1701,
Useless
This app does not work. After compressing the video it never gets sent to the appropriate library. There is no way to send the videos after compressing them, which is after all the entire reason for compressing them. I gave one star because zero wasn't an option!
mz l-mo,
Great app!!!
Very useful. The compressed video didn't lose any quality! If I were to use this app for every video in my folder, my phone would probably have an extra 1.5 GB.
Daa706,
Great way to save space and keep quality
But it really needs the ability to delete full size videos after they have been squished.
Tigerwoogs,
Doesnt support many sizes
I need to change my videos to 400x400 for Vine, this only has a few sizes and none of them are square. Could be a useful app for others though.
