Description

Play instruments with your voice in real time! Voice Band introduces a revolutionary new way to make music - with only your voice. Featured on G4TV’s Attack of the Show (with Olivia Munn).

* Imagine creating an entire song with only your voice. *

Just sing into your phone and hear Voice Band transform your voice into an instrument in real time. Voice Band doesn't simply alter your voice to sound like an instrument, it actually plays a real sampled instrument which follows what you sing. Want to jam to a guitar solo with your favorite band? Voice Band lets you play along with your ipod library, too.

Voice Band features a recorder which lets you build a song, one instrument at a time. Auto pitch mode helps you stay on key, and if you're a musician, you'll appreciate the adjustable scale and metronome. Voice Band also includes a built-in effects processor with distortion, reverb, and delay.

Whether you’re a musician looking to instantly capture an arrangement idea, or a music fan looking to make your own music for the first time, Voice Band will inspire and challenge you.

Check out what others have to say:

hollyfigueroa,
So much potential
Like a lot of the other people who have reviewed the app, I am a professional singer, but I also play multiple instruments (cello, piano, guitar, bass, some brass and woodwinds, etc) and teach voice and most of the instruments mentioned. I had high hopes for this app as a fun thing for my kids, as well as a teaching tool. What it has turned into is something that I spent at least 15 dollars on after downloading it, buying multiple instruments that are way too touchy, and don't record the pitch that it sung. I tested this, thinking maybe I was off key, but I set the app to "chromatic", turned off autotune, plugged in headphones so the tuner wouldn't pick up multiple tones, and my separate tuner said my voice was on pitch, but still, the app was picking up something different. I hope the developer intends on continuing to update this app, because the potential to be a pro tool and a 5 star app is high...but not while these and other issues persist. As it stands now, this app,is more like a frustrating toy that never quite does what it is supposed to do.
TheJadeMachine,
Should be able to do more.
I would really like to be able to run a wav file through this app. Kind of pointless to re-sing something I’ve already sung if I don’t want to. Also what’s taking so long with either this app improving or competition coming out that has the same function? I first got the app in like early 2015 and the whole thing is dead in the water why is that?! I don’t have allot of money and this could really save me allot of time in some areas. Seriously, what’s the hold up?! Sometimes I feel that tech like this gets held back for some reason the general public is unaware of. Seriously, nobody wants to make any money on this concept?! It’s been like five years! This should be way more than what it is. That’s the truth.

Downloaded on my iPad and got the cello and the violin, the app doesn’t register that I bought them so I can not use them on my phone.

Could be fun, but needs work
I have a difficult time recording anything with this app since the drums are so glitchy. Even a slight wiggle of the phone will cause a drum tigger. It's way too sensitive- there should be a way for us to adjust that.

Even setting the dial to kick only or snare only - it's still near impossible to lay down a glitch-free track The sample will cut itself off with SILENCE if a butterfly flaps his wings after your intended hit. A new hit should never cancel the prior. This happens over and over again until I eventually don't feel like using the app anymore. Perhaps a simple drum step squencer would be less maddening? The drum samples do sound good- if only I could record them without glitching.

The guitars also suffer from this same cutoff glitch. The mic hears some other miscellaneous noise (even though my mouth is right in front of the mic) and it just drops the previous sample. Not very fun when you are 8 bars in.

Yet another thing that blows: THE UNDO BUTTON IS RIGHT NEXT TO THE RECORD BUTTON. There will be times when you will destroy a recording that you just spent 20 minutes trying to make. NOT FUN. Why not more undos instead of just one?

The best way to use this app is to just use the "mic" setting and overlay your ideas with that. That seems to work fine with no glitches. The rest of the app needs some work. I really hope they do an update.
jtility,
Great idea, absolutely AWFUL at carrying it out.
This app does not work AT ALL like it shows in the sample video. In fact, I tried to recreate "Fly Away" (the same song they use in the video) just after watching it, and the app STILL sounded terrible. I have no idea how the man in the video got things to sound that perfect. How many takes do you think they shot before they published that?

This is a great idea for an app -- but it completely fails at executing what it wants to. First and foremost, it is TERRIBLE at figuring out pitch. I mean AWFUL. It couldn't even get it right when I played a synthsizer instead of singing -- and the notes on my synthesizer are obviously always perfect in pitch. The app didn't think so.

The other comments about the sample cutting off when you play a new sound are also spot on.
The drums are hard to work - it doesn't seem to be able to distinguish between the two sounds well.

I still use the native iPhone voice recorder instead of this app. I just sing into it and then tap out what I was thinking onto the synth when I get home. At least that way it's free, and sit syncs right with iTunes.

Not at all worth $3. Stay far away, at least until they update the pitch sensor and the comments here begin to look positive.
upnort,
wish list version 1.1
Love some hate some it is very fun, but I have only been able to sing accappella, and add all the harmony because I don't like the organ or lead guitar, I do like some of the other instruments, but wish they would add accustic guitar and piano and other instruments wish the speaker button worked wish I knew how to delete songs I saved, wish I could send song to itune library wish I could send to facebook wish I could record a track from library but it is great that you can hear a song from library to use as reference. wish ipod touch had a great mic not just earbud mic that bites! all in all it is fun PLEASE ADD MORE it is my favorite app so far and am waiting for upgrades
GSmoothness,
Incredible App! Helps Me Be Creative!
I honestly don't understand the negative reviews. This app is great. Of course every note isn't gonna be right on the money, but for a phone app to be able to record musical ideas on the go just by using your voice is incredible all by itself. I've gotten tons of ideas down since I've purchase Voice Band. My only recommendation for improvements would be if they allowed you to pick a time marker so you don't have to listen to the entire recording before laying down the next part. That would really help out alot. Also, maybe add a piano and acoustic guitar to the instruments. Oh, and electical drums. Otherwise, this app is incredible. People, stop HATING!
The Organist ,
The beginning of the end...
Voiceband may very well spell the end of professional musicians in the future. Anyone can hum a tune, but now your humming is replaced by an actual instrument. The instrument sound a little computer generated, but this allows you to get your musical idea down. I imagine the future of Voiceband or similar apps will bring realistic sounding instruments that will compete with professional workstations.

The user interface is different and I like it. It looks like hand drawn graphics, but the controls are spot on and easy to use and understand. Its a different kind of functional eye candy.

This app could use better sounding instruments, but the concept is completely original and works. If you have a musical idea and want to get it down, then you should try this.
Mark T. Emery,
Fantastic!!!
I've wanted something like this since I was 5!! Having those melodies in your head but didn't have the guitar etc experience to play them. This is the closest you can get to making amazing music! I use fruity loops on my computer to take little melodies I make and loop them from there. (if they had something similar on here that'd be great!) couple things you guys could add. For vocals it'd be cool if you had effects like t-pains autotune for instance. (I know tpain didn't create it but for reference you get it) and more instraments like acoustic or some kind of techno-ish thing. I hate techno myself but it's an untapped recource. Great app! Would have paid $10 easily for it!
