Description
Welcome to the free app for WE ARE OCEAN Vancouver, an interactive educational journey inviting students across Vancouver to reflect on the effects of climate change on the ocean and learn how this is affecting the ecosystems of the land of the Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh & Musqueam First Nations. Through activities based on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) principles and on the First People Principles of Learning, the program leads to an end project in which students inquire about what the land would look, feel and taste like without the presence of salmon in our ecosystems due to its disappearance because of climate change.
This exciting project has been commissioned by the Vancouver Biennale and our BIG IDEAS education program and is curated by ARTPORT_making waves. This is the first North American addition to their global program WE ARE OCEAN engaging young people around the world and is an artistic contribution to the Preparatory Phase of the UN Decade Of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) through the IOC-UNESCO.
This free app is a learning tool for students enrolled in WE ARE OCEAN Vancouver. This app gives access to the multimedia content and activities by artist-educators Oli Salvas and Cease Wyss, complimenting content facilitated by teachers in the classroom. Students are encouraged to then submit artwork images or videos of their projects to Cease and Oli through the app, adding their unique voices to this local and global ocean project. Student contributions may be added to the app, drawing together ideas from across the WE ARE OCEAN Vancouver student community as we journey through this program together.
