Weave Chat allows users to easily ‘chat’ using their individual devices (e.g. application on iPad, tablet, cellphone) while their communication partner is out of their immediate environment or while sitting next to their communication partner. Weave Chat is a category-based system with a dynamic display and synthetic voice output.
Weave Chat Messenger has several key features including:
- Free, in-application texting using picture symbols and traditional word "text."
- Text your friends and family individually or in a group chat.
- Receive picture-symbol recommendations while texting to make communication quicker.
- Use the robust vocabulary including pronouns, verbs (in present, future, and past tense), adjectives and descriptors, a variety of categorized nouns, and conversational picture symbol words to communicate.
- The ability to switch between devices (iPhone, iPad) without loosing your specific picture symbol keyboard configuration.
- Speech synthesis (text-to-speech) in all screens.
- Synthetic voice options (ability to select the voice, rate of speech, and vocal pitch that you want).
- Two keyboard builder configuration methods (1) hide images you don't want visible; 2) add only the images you want to a blank board).
- The ability to add your own custom picture symbols/words and determine the category they should nest under.
- The ability to search for a word using "word finder" and locate the word via a red highlighted path.

Weave Chat has come so far
I downloaded this app when it first came out, a couple of years ago now. Then, it was a bit clunky, clearly earning the name “beta”. Since then it has massively improved, become sleeker, and the AAC features more robust. I have come to expect updates regularly as well as near continuous adding of vocabulary. Recently, vocabulary has been aimed at adult users and, as an adult user, I very much appreciate this. Recently they added the ability to add your own category (not just an icon) and this was a much needed feature. I can now organize my added icons in a way that works better for me. Something else I really like it that I can text my friends with icons using the messaging feature. I have never seen this in another AAC app. As a part-time AAC user, this feature allows me to continue to communicate when my regular communication methods are not ideal.

Free Functional AAC app
I use Weave Chat for students with language and articulation needs. I like the functionality of the display, the ability to change how many pictures appear on screen and even the size of the pictures (this is especially helpful for students with limited physical mobility and those with visual difficulties). I like how you can change features like including or eliminating the verbal output when selecting pictures. The pictures are simple and clearly convey the word it represents. And the best thing… NO IN-APP PURCHASES!!!

Great communication app for adults
I downloaded the app to have an alternate way for my residents to communicate with me at the nursing home I work at. I love how there are continuous vocabulary packages coming out and I especially appreciate the medical vocabulary as that is something that is essential for my residents to be able to communicate. I also appreciate the fact that you can add your own vocabulary to make it personalized for each individual user. Also, I love how easy it is to contact the owners/developers to ask for specific vocabulary.

Strong Start, Getting Stronger
This app shows a clear dedication towards giving users what they need in order to communicate. The functionality is already on par with other paid communication boards and the support team is very responsive to user requests that increase the app’s capabilities. I’m looking forward to seeing the results of this synergy between users and developers as WeaveChat continues to grow.

Helpful and Cool App!
Weave Chat has really impressed me with it’s functionality. I’ve used other AIC platforms in the past and what distinguishes Weave Chat is the fact that the word finder is incredibly user friendly and makes the whole app easy to navigate, especially for new users. I’ve been recommending this to all my SLP friends and look forward to seeing how this app continues to develop and grow!

Great app!
I love the thoughtfulness behind this app. Not only does it help to bridge the communication gap between verbal and nonverbal speakers using pictures, it has self-guiding features that help to teach the user as they go. The pictures are broken down by categories, and if you are unsure of which category your word falls in, you can use the word finder to assist! Not only that, it’s free and available to everyone!

Very original
This is a great app, and is very original! There is a picture for each word, and they have colored backgrounds based on the Modified Fitzgerald Key. The colors stand out to me the most, since they add to visual stimulation.

Liking the newest features!
I really like that I can stay in category now when I select a symbol and not be popped out. Makes it easier when listing and/or describing something.

Love this app!
Really like using the pictures to create cool messages to my friends. Am also taking advantage of the new large font so I do not have to wear glasses. This app is a great innovation one upping text messaging!
