Description

WebMO allows users to build and view molecules in 3-D, visualize orbitals and symmetry elements, lookup chemical information and properties from external databases, and access state-of-the-art computational chemistry programs.

WebMO is recommended for students and faculty in high school, college, and graduate school who desire mobile access to molecular structures, information, and calculations.

WebMO capabilities include:
- Build molecules by drawing atoms and bonds in a 3-D molecular editor, or by speaking the name (e.g., “aspirin”)
- Optimize structures using VSEPR theory or molecular mechanics
- View Huckel molecular orbitals, electron density, and electrostatic potential
- View molecular vibrations
- View point group and symmetry elements of molecules
- Lookup basic molecular information, including IUPAC and common names, stoichiometry, molar mass
- Lookup chemical data from PubChem and ChemSpider
- Lookup experimental and predicted molecular properties from external databases (NIST, Sigma-Aldrich)
- Lookup IR, UV-VIS, NMR, and mass spectra from external databases (NIST, SDBS)
- Capture high-resolution molecular images
- Save and recall molecular structures locally
- Export and import structures via email

WebMO is also a front-end to WebMO servers (version 14 and higher):
- Supports Gaussian, GAMESS, Molpro, MOPAC, NWChem, ORCA, PQS, PSI, Quantum Espresso, VASP, Q-Chem, and Tinker computational chemistry programs
- Submit, monitor, and view calculations
- View formatted tabular data extracted from output files, as well as raw output
- Visualize geometry, partial charges, dipole moment, normal vibrational modes, molecular orbitals, and NMR/IR/UV-VIS spectra

Euler Wiles,
Rich functionality, intuitive interface
Nice array of functionality with an intuitive interface. There is a decent variety of information that you can obtain about a molecule; Pm6 calculation results can be generated.
Tux Kenobi,
Could be great if it didn't crash
It could be a great teaching app but keeps crashing constantly. I've installed it on my iPhone 8 with iOS 13.2 and also on my iPad mini gen 1 iOS 9.3.6, happens in both.
I truly hope it is fixed on next releases, only then I'll pay for it. Until then I'll keep using iSpartan for my classes does similar things but requires internet connection and does not offers free servers for submitting calculations.
jafae,
How can I thank you
I'm going to buy the upgrade just to show my appreciation for this incredible app that brings me so much joy, happiness, and fun molecular modeling activity time. Thank you scholars of the world, thank you very much.
C.Clifford,
Totally pro results
As good as much more expensive comp chem packages. Does what you probably need done anyhow, ESP, orbitals with occupancy, MM, etc.
Schmidte11,
Can place molecules again
It looks like the issue preventing molecule placement is fixed!
Will_Cleve,
10/10
Thank you guys for making this app free, it has helped me tremendously
Riifaa,
Great app to visualize molecules and calculate basic properties
Very useful for visualizing molecules in 3D. Great tool for teaching chemistry to students!
nycqzbw,
Best $5 I ever spent
Would’ve paid $20 lol
Mindmanifest,
Just what I needed!
The WebMO I used so frequently in my undergraduate years is now at my fingertips! And it is just as easy to use. Now as a theory graduate student teaching classes, I find myself using WebMO again and wanting a quick way to answer student questions and curiosities. With this WebMO app, I can give my students (or curious friends) reliably accurate estimates for even molecular orbitals in seconds or minutes! Moreover, the ability to do quick quantum calculations via an app could help stimulate interest in chemistry in our ever mobile-leaning world.

At first the display is a bit small, but one can even zoom in on the periodic table. Rotating and moving molecules is likewise quite simple, once you try it out. Building or searching for molecules is intuitive, and the premium features are well worth the extra purchase (who these days remains interested in molecules of less than six atoms?).

All in all, a dream come true.
mrluepke,
REALLY impressive!
WebMO is a great app for chemistry students. Worth every penny! You can create any molecule you want, either by drawing it or "Look Up". The molecular editor is fantastic -- just draw the backbone of the molecule, and WebMO will add hydrogens and give it a good structure. Somehow WebMO knows general and organic chemistry! Or just speak the molecule name into the microphone, and the structure appears. Now I know what Walt and Jesse needed when they stole the methylamine! The WebMO app calculates and displays the orbitals and symmetry of your molecule. It can also lookup and display information about your molecule on the web. I thought that I was going to use this as an interface to a WebMO server, but I find that the app is so self-contained that I don't even need to use a WebMO server. The WebMO developers have outdone themselves with this app!

FANTASTIC kid distraction too :)
