Description

Children often ask questions like: "Do I have school today?" and "Is my swimming lesson this afternoon?" or "How many nights before we go to grandma and grandpa?" This iPad app is the answer to all these questions and much more. A fun and educational week planner for toddlers and pre-schoolers!

Week Planner for Kids helps children from the age of 3 to learn the structure of the day and week though the use of recognizable icons. By using this app, they quickly learn to comprehend what week routines there are and what special activities are planned. Your child learns to plan and make choices in a playfully way.

The days of the week have distinct colours and are pronounced when clicked upon. The app works with a set of universal icons that represent a wide range of activities. Each icon has its own associated sound. Your child can also make its own icons by drawing, writing a text or uploading a picture. Through a range of weather icons, weather situations can be identified. Additionally, a reward icon for good behaviour or certain performances can be rewarded. Icons are dragged into the planner with a finger. This way kids have fun in planning their own week calendar.

Use of Week Planner for Kids teaches children:
to distinguish names of the weekdays
to gain insight into their day and week planning
to plan their own day and week activities
to self-reward for good behaviour
to distinguish daily weather conditions

Planning a week together with your child before dinner cuddled up on the couch or right before bedtime. This app offers children years of fun with educational elements.

Week Planner for Kids: educational fun. Experience it yourself!

Cull4589,
Great at first
Loved the flexible icons and great design, but only a limited number of icons fit in a day. Fine for younger kids, but not as good for older kiddos on the autism spectrum who have more tasks per day. Also, there's no way to select just "today" - which is where my son gets visually overwhelmed (he wants top days tasks to be like tomorrow's). Add those options and it'd be a 5 star app!
ShravanC,
Not so great
First issue I faced is I cannot add more than 6 activities.
Second, custom badges can be only hand written and cannot use keyboard to type in text.
Third, once a badge is created, we cannot edit to update again, have to start from scratch, painful process.

I was hoping to use this to plan my kid’s day to day activities starting from his wake up to sleep and involving shower, breakfast, homework, school, play, sports activities etc..., but very disappointed with the purchase !
Mrs. M's mom,
Good
Good app for broad day planning.
specialappssk,
Super, visually appealing schedule- alarm please!
I only have a long wish list because I LOVE this idea and can see us using it a lot- Pretty please- add some kind of alarm system, and some kind of way to grab the icons easier, like a search feature. Scrolling trying to find the right one, especially if you have unlocked the extra packs is time consuming (can you please add more standard icons for free such as a bed for sleep and perhaps a toilet?), and there is no way to put our most used icons at the front either- perhaps tapping in the bar could pop up a screen sized page with the icons arranged in categories of our choosing? Also we have LOTS of therapy appointments etc. and run out of room on each day bar- can you make it so you can scroll to fit more icons on each day bar? And what about a check mark when you are done? This is very visually appealing and easy for children to understand. Thank you for allowing drawing as an option. My kiddo is a reader and this is a wonderful way to quickly write down what is coming next.
Kathleen808,
Kids week
I looked at over 20 calendar apps and even purchased 2 others before buying Kid's Week. It is just what I was looking for for our daughter with special needs. I love that we can use our own pictures. I have two suggestions. It old be great if we could record our voice to match our picture. In other words if when the child touched a picture of grandma's house my recorded voice would say "grandma's house". Also it would be good if we could store our picture cards down with the other icons so we didn't need to keep remaking them. Fabulous app! I think you need to get it added to some special needs and autism sites. Thanks!
MickyG,
How we use this app with our toddlers
This app is self-explainatory. I don't know what the person who wrote "It comes with no instructions," is talking about because with a couple swipes it is EXTREMELY EASY to learn.

How we use it with our toddlers:
1. At the beginning of the day we use the app as a visual to go through what we're going to do that day. "Today we're going to the library for story time, then the grocery store, then after supper take a bath." This way there are no surprises for them so they aren't surprised/agitated when it's time to get our shoes on to leave.

2. In doing that they are learning the days of the week without guided learning--it's just happening.

3. We add the weather badge and say, "The weather is rainy today! That means it's cool and we need rain jackets!" etc., so they are learning about weather and dressing for it.

I really wish it had:
- A "Daily Planner" for recurring Morning Routine and Before Bed Routine.
- The ability to "check off" things done.
- The current day of the week highlighted a little brighter than the other days of the week.
- I'd purchase chore icons. Feather duster, trash can, vacuum, etc. (Bathroom & dishes icons are already included, obviously.) These are all things older toddlers.
joeturnerlin,
Great, intuitive app
Really love this app. It's fun to play with and intuitive and helps my toddler visualize his day and the week. I like the icons and love the fact that you can upload your own pictures.

Here's a few ideas for the suggestion box:

- Perhaps I just haven't figured it out, but I would love the app to sync across devices. We're a multiple iDevice household.
- Would be great if you could "lock" a calendar in a slightly more complicated way. My 2 year old likes to move calendar entrees around, messing up the calendar.
- I agree with another reviewer's suggestion to add voice capture capabilities that can play over the icons.
- Can we get a "sleep" icon?
- Would be nice to hear "today" and the date when you touch it.
- Any way to add "check" marks across the activities that have passed, so the toddler can see where we're at in the schedule?

Overall, very very pleased with this. Have been recommending it to friends. And I don't tend to do that!
Momma Trains,
Can't see future weeks
Ok. Like the visual aspect, and the ability to add photos and drawings to customize icons, but seriously lacking in capability. It is basically an electronic whiteboard of a week: you can't work on next week, can't view coming events...just wipe and restart every week. Absolutely no context which is what kids need to understand the passing of days.
GadgetGal_,
Great App
I really love this app. It's very cute visually and functionally works without any bugs. Here is my wish list for this app...It would be great if there is an option to make Sunday appear first overall instead of Monday. The ability to import sound files to pair with pictures used from the photo library would be fantastic. Please make an audio for the little girl holding the sign to say "Today is _______" when tapped. Finally, please make it so that when tapped, a child will say the month, date and year.
Rdcabbage,
Potential, but missing too many necessary features
There are no instructions? The description of the app says its possible for a child to create his or her own icons. I'm a parent and I can't figure out how to do it, so I'm wondering how my special needs children will figure it out. It's also not obvious how to upload a photo. With only the free icons, this app is not very useable. The ability to add my own icons or photos would be very helpful.
Disappointed that I spent $1.99 on this app.
