I like using this app, but it still has some glitches. Occasionally, the app will stop recording my distance while walking. It’s possible that I am accidentally touching my phone screen during the walk, but this problem occurred frequently when I first began using the app. That problem improved after the first year, but seems to be happening again.
I wish the app gave a clearer indication of charitable donations I may be contributing to or earning for charities . Not really sure what the charity points signify. As far as I know, in the 5 years that I have been using this app, I have not earned a single charitable donation. That’s discouraging, so I have begun walking for specific charities where I know exactly how my walking is benefitting each charitable organization.

I like tracking the walks I do with the pups and this app was very helpful. I recommended it to many people. I received one or two notifications of donations made to my shelter of choosing on my behalf. I downloaded the app two years ago and have logged more than 1000 miles in walks.
The new app, Wooftrax (it was called “Walk for a Dog” before) has better maps than before and you can pause the walks if needed, which I liked. But the new app also has some sort of glitch and crashes in the middle of my walks. In the last few weeks I noticed many times that the app crashes without me even touching my phone and as a result it’s logging shorter walks than we are doing. At first I thought it may be something with me using other apps simultaneously but that doesn’t make any sense and many times the app crashes while the phone is in my pocket. I contacted the developers two weeks ago and did not hear from them. I deleted the app and reinstalled it. It recovered my information and I will report if that helped. I don’t recommend the app anymore.

I lost a bunch of walk data thanks to this glitchy app
In the last 10 days, this crappy app stopped allowing me to finish walks. It would basically keep continuing the same walk. That was annoying but since it’s really hot, I haven’t been walking much since the end of June.
This goes all to heck tonight when I realize after repeatedly shutting down the app, checking for updates, and shutting down the phone, to try to fix the problem, the only way to “fix” it was to delete and reload the app. In so doing, I managed to lose 4 months of walks. Great. Just wonderful. Thank you for this crummy app, which never discloses just what you contribute to your charity (if you ever even actually PAY the charity), but also us so glitchy that it sometimes doesn’t record walks properly. And to add insult to injury, I lost around 10 levels and miles of walks recorded for the history with my dogs and presumably for the benefit of my charity.
Do better. It’s a great concept but really shoddy execution and disclosure.

Love this app but could benefit from a few tweaks
I use this app a lot while walking the dogs at my local shelter, love doubling up my charity work and tracking how many dogs I’ve walked that day. But it’s very unpractical for on longer walks. If you want to get the full charity points for your walk you have to remember to reset it every time you go a quarter mile. I one mile walk will only give you 10 charity points unless you manually break it up as you go, and when I’m out for a long walk and not actively on my phone, I don’t often remember to do that.
I would not mind at all having to watch multiple ads back to back to make up the revenue for a longer walk if it meant not having to baby my phone in order to get the most out of my longer walks.

Easy way to do some good.
I started using the WoofTrax app in the spring of 2020. I was laid off at the beginning of the pandemic and suddenly had more time to walk my 2 pups. You get to pick whatever animal charity and your walks help them earn charitable donations. I love that I’m helping my local animal shelter, and getting to track just how many miles we’ve walked in the past 3 years (almost 1,100 miles!). It’s become a daily habit to open the app and press “start walking” before our walks. When the walk is you press “done.” WoofTrax app is very easy to use. All of your walks and miles are kept track of and easy to access. They recently updated it and it seems like it’s better than it was before.

Is this thing working?
I’m writing this for 2 reasons. 1. I’m reading about all the problems with the app crashing since the change. I used it a lot in the past and got away from it but I’ve recently started using it more often, walking 2 miles a day for three weeks straight now and I’ve had 0 issues. Not one problem with it crashing.
But the second reason for writing this is an problem I do have.... is the rescue I picked getting anything? The answer... no. It’s my friends rescue and I talked to her today. She’s had walkers walking for her for months now and she hasn’t received a penny. Not one donation. My guess is there must be minimum requirements in order to get paid?? Don't know? All I know is I walked dozens of times and who knows... apparently it’s all for nothing. 🤷🏻♂️

I’m walking anyways
I adopted my two dogs 7 years ago from schnauzer rescue of Texas. That’s when I first heard of Wooftrax. So we are walking anyways. What’s not to like? I’m going to walk my dogs, and they will reward me for something that I’m doing anyway! I just turn on the app when we leave the house and turn it off when we get home. Could not be easier! It earns donations to the rescue that saved my babies, helps them save more lives. And it tells me how far and how fast we went, some days we are super sniffers, some speed demons, some more into distance. As long as they want to reward us for taking our walks, I can push a couple buttons 🥰

Crashes constantly
I started using this app in 2017, when I adopted an adult dog who has a LOT of energy. We would walk 5-7 miles a day over the span of three walks. Every so often it would crash and not record a walk, which was a bummer, but most all was recorded. Flash forward to end of 2021 and the app started crashing every other walk. Now I can only get a walk to record every 3-4 walks. I understand that a shelter needs a particular number of walkers in order to get the donations, but no where does it say how many walkers are needed. But apparently, my small rural no-kill shelter doesn’t have enough walkers to receive donations. So with thousands of miles and five years of walking, nothing has been donated to my local shelter. My and my pup will keep up with our 5-7 miles a day, but I won’t be using this app any more.

Easy way to track your fitness AND contribute to a charity!
I’ve been using WoofTrax for a year now and it’s very easy to use. I never knew exactly how my walks were tallied but WT has updated their app and is working on making the process clearer. You do have to remember to walk at least .25 mile for the walk to count for your charity, but you can also pause and resume later if you didn’t get to 1/4 mile. I also just discovered you can track your cycling and running and that counts too. WoofTrax is an easy way to track your own fitness, have a nice walk with your dog, and earn money for your favorite animal charity.

Works great, but doubling speed & distance?
Since the recent Apple IOS 13x updates it seems like the app is doubling both the distance and speed of my walks. Not that I’m complaining about the numbers but I’m pretty sure my 16 year old dog isn’t averaging 4+mph over 2.x miles in 20 minutes. Before the IOS updates the app used to report half of that, which is more realistic.
Other than that, the app has worked well for me over the last couple of years. I enjoy being able to look back at the maps of the routes the dogs pick, and to look and see if I’m as consistent about walking them as I tell the vet. :-)
