Description

Word Finder allows you to find and check valid words in all popular crossword games such as Scrabble®, Words With Friends, etc.

• Enter the tiles on your rack (including blanks)
• Find all possible words, ordered by score or word length
• Enter an existing word on the board that you'd like to attach to
• Find all possible words that could attach to that word: alongside it, crossing it, extending it, or fitting between multiple words
• No internet connection required to search
• Look up definition using the built-in iOS dictionary or search online
• Check if a word is valid
• Includes Words With Friends, Scrabble®, Lexulous, as well as other popular word games

I've fixed a problem where the sidebar on iPads was blank (it had black icons on a black background so you couldn't see the buttons). Sorry for the problem - I made a mistake when packaging up the files for the last update and missed one file off the list.

• Updated the dictionary for WWF to reflect recent changes.
• I've hopefully fixed a bug where the text entry boxes would sometimes disappear off the screen. I tried to fix this before, but it was still broken for a few people - thank you for your patience. If it still isn't working properly, please let me know!
• I've fixed a problem where some text was obscured by the 'notch' on the iPhone X and 11 when holding the phone in landscape orientation.
• Various other fixes.

I've also optimised the app to look better on larger screen devices, and fixed a few bugs.

The last update made the app unreadable if you were using larger text - I'm really sorry.

This should now be fixed, and the app should cope much better with large text.

You can adjust the size of the text in the 'Settings' app. All sizes of text should now be readable in this app, although the very largest settings may be a bit cluttered on small devices.

Bug fix: the previous update broke the app for iOS 6 users. Sorry, my mistake. It's quite hard to support older devices - I'm a solo developer and I don't have an iOS 6 device to test it on. I hope this version fixes the bug.

I've added three new dictionaries:

• USA MW 2014 (OSPD5)
• USA Tournament 2014 (TWL14)
• International 2015 (CSW15)

You can change to one of the new dictionaries using the 'Settings' tab.

Other improvements:

• Improved the help information when choosing a dictionary (tap the Help button for a full description of the dictionaries)
• On iOS 8 upwards I can now detect if an iOS Definitions Dictionary hasn't yet been downloaded, and give appropriate help to download one
• Fixed a bug where the text entry boxes would sometimes disappear off the screen

Main change: iPad support!

I've finally added support for the iPad - iPad users will now see a multiple-column layout using the whole screen, and can see more words at once, and quickly navigate through the different options. I hope you like it.

Also:

• Updated the Words With Friends dictionary to match updates to the WWF app
• Fixed an occasional crash when starting the app
• Fixed a problem where the app would freeze if you started it on an iPad held in the "landscape" (sideways) orientation
• Removed the "Report this word" button as many people were tapping it accidentally. You can still report dictionary problems using the "Report a problem" button on the Information page.

Minor bug fixes/improvements:

* Bug fix: For a few users the 'Information' screen was being shown automatically every time they started the app. It is only supposed to be shown automatically if there is new information on that page.
* Improvement: add more detailed information in the 'This word isn't valid' email to help me sort out dictionary problems.

Also, apologies to those who found the previous update confusing. The new 'Alongside' results have bumped the 'Extending' and 'Crossing' results to further down the page - but they are still there if you scroll down!

WARNING: DO NOT UPDATE UNLESS YOUR DEVICE IS RUNNING IOS 4.2 OR ABOVE!

If you do upgrade, the app may be deleted, and the only way to get it back is if you have a backup of your iTunes data on your computer!

I tried hard to make this update work on iOS 3, but almost all the new features rely on iOS4 :-(

Note: if you had problems with the previous version suggesting words that didn't work in your game, please try this new version. I have created a wizard that helps you select the correct dictionary to hopefully eliminate this problem.

New features:
* lateral results (words alongside existing words forming lots of 2-letter words)
* find words that fit between two or more existing words on the board
* wizard to help you select the correct game and dictionary
* 3 new dictionaries (CSW2012, OSPD4, generic) in addition to TWL2006, CSW2007 and WWF
* lists of useful words (2-letter words, Q without U, etc)
* many word definitions are now built-in without needing internet access (iOS 5 devices only)
* quickly scroll through word lists using the index on the right
* option to send an email direct to the author so I can help you promptly with any problems
* context-sensitive help throughout the app

Bug fixes:
* the letters you enter are now saved when you stop and restart the app
* fix occasional crashes when viewing lists of words

Words With Friends

Love this game. While meeting and playing with strangers, some are so good and some are not so good. But the longer you play, the more tips you'll get, the more goofy- jumbles of letters REALLY ARE A WORD! You learn new words all the time. Some people are so good they are annoying. I just try to make the best words I can, even though I "apparently" have letters to make a word that would give me twice the points as the one I have already figured out. I will not spend hours looking for "just the right ubiquitous word to maximize my word point." I do the best I can and just have fun with it.

Words Lost

The new version totally obliterated the find word feature. Now when you hit the “Go” button, no words show up just a bunch of lines on top of each other, some numbers but zero letters. What happened??!! I tried multiple times to delete and re-load the app, but it’s still scrambled beyond recognition so that it is unusable. There should be minus stars for the upgrade.

THE BEST, still.

I've tried 'em all and there's no comparison. The best $1.99 I've spent on an app. I've used Word Finder since 2011. July 9, 2018 - Still using the app & I still have NO complaints - it’s great.

UPDATE: Yep. Still the best. Actually, I gave up trying to find a comparable app.

My wish would be that when you want to find a word that begins with the letter C for example, that you can enter Cxxxxxx and get ONLY words that BEGIN with the letter C rather than the app providing words in which the letter is second, third or last. I'd like to see a notification that reads 'There are no words that begin with letter C'. Just a suggestion. Other than that, it's almost perfect.

Very useful for us cheaters

I got tired of losing and wanted some help. And this app got even more helpful as time went on - as I learned to use it. Plus the developer is actually paying attention to these reviews and responding and using our comments to improve the app.
If you want some help with WWF, then this is the app for you.

Best WWF Helper App

This dictionary has the newest words added to the WWF lexicon. I also love the lists of words such as 2 letter words, Q words without U, etc. It is linked to Google for definitions. I addition to high scoring words, it tells how you can do side by side placement for more points.
I would like to see the font a little larger and bolder. The graphics don’t look very sophisticated and slick. But, I give it an A+ for including the newest words and for ease of use.

*please add QGP to your list of WWF words.

Great little app

Of course, it's hard to justify using this app, because you're probably cheating (at Words with Friends or Scrabble) if you do. But you can also think of it as a sort of training tool, something to jog your brain once in a while...? It's also nice that this app gives you definitions.

Use this instead of swapping tiles

This app is saving me a lot. I get so many bad hands, but instead of swapping tiles, I am able to find more words. This app still leaves you challenged, instead providing the solution. I'm playing the game because I want to be challenged.

Word Finder

If you enjoy playing WWF you will find this App essential. It is user friendly and keeps you updated with periodic changes in the dictionary that can otherwise be very frustrating.

Fabulous aid

WordFinder is a tremendous study aid for WWF2 junkies.

I use primarily the word lists feature, so that I can study and become more familiar with valid words for WWF2. The word lists are kept up to date with changes Zynga makes to its dictionary. That is the most essential characteristic fo me. And WordFinder delivers.

Freezes my iPhone 11

This app is great for word possibilities. However, it has recently begun freezing in the middle of use. Rebooting the phone stops this, but later recurs. This freezing phenomenon also affects Words With Friends, and sometimes Safari. I am deleting the app. Even after deleting and reloading, this still happens.
