Description

Worder is a challenging word game which tests your ability to find words within a set of nine letters.

Worder requires no internet connection and is great for plane flights, commuting on subways and remote travel destinations.

The object of the game is to make as many words as possible.. and find the one word using all nine letters too.

Worder has no timers, explosions or music, just sit down for a relaxing game of Worder.. playing at your own pace.

Worder includes many game options, including a "Shared Letter" mode where all words should include the highlighted letter, or standard mode that allows you to use all letters.

The minimum word length for a game can also be selected, which can limit the number of words that need to be found.

Worder also includes 6 difficulty levels, so that Worder can cater for those who are intimidated by games with large word sets, to those people who are word game experts. Level 6 includes all words, where lower levels include a subset of the entire word list, based on how commonly words are used in everyday language/text.

You can challenge your friends by sending your current game for them to play. See if they can beat your score.

"If your looking for a good word game that's simple to use with no frills then buy this. I love the simplicity of it and main reason for my purchase. Sometimes I want to play a quiet word game without all the glitz and noise and this one I can play peacefuly. I haven't any problems using it and find the words ok but you will find word variations in any word game. Tried the free version first before I decided. I recommend this to all. Nice game Peter!"

"It's on my first page. It's my favorite 'go to app.' Never get's old"

"This game is so fun I could play it all day"

"Thank you for the update, the game is now excellent. I don't know how you managed to control the difficulty level of word choices, but you've done it! We are on level 5 (out of 6) and the words are challenging but there's not a single obscure word (many games, including the two I mention next, have problems with words no one has ever heard or seen). My wife and I play this often, it's now our favorite word game, alongside of Wurdle (boggle) and Lexitron (anagrams)."

"Simple and so enjoyable! Well-designed. I'm very happy I found this."

"What a revelation to have one of my fave games in an app WITHOUT TIMERS! Just wonderful!"

Pondkeeper,
Heaven for Word Game Fans
This is a wonderful app, perfect for casual game play. The best part is no ticking timer, no lights flashing and sound effects blasting, it is a very zen quiet experience that can eat several hours without you even noticing the time passing. The only problem is that only one game can be played at once. My husband is determined to clear a 218 word grid (he's at 97% and has about 6 words left to find) and I can't start a new game because that would erase the epic game he is in the midst of. A suggestion would be to have the option of saving a game in progress and also allow a new game for a different person to start as well. Not sure if the one game at a time thing is a limitation of the ipad and/or the OS or not. If not, please consider adding the 2 games in progress choice, that would be perfect.

Needs Improvement - 2
Although I still enjoy this game, it remains very frustrating to play. As noted by others, it still rejects some very common words. A dictionary upgrade is still badly needed. In additon, it would be nice to know what effect the level setting has. The fact that some words are recognized but not accepted is kind of a disconnect for this type of game. (It is either a word or it is not - why the artificially created middle ground?) At minimum, let the players know what the rules are to better manage the settings.

Finally, there should be a screen warning if one is about to start a new game before either finishing or giving up the previous game. On several occasions, I have accidently hit the new game button and erased a game in process.

Previous review

Although the concept of this application is great, the execution has some basic flaws. A number of very common words are not included in the dictionary (ie. oat, vim etc.) which makes the game very frustrating to play. In addition, it definitely needs an option where you can alphabetize the words entered to enable them to be reviewed without scrolling through the entire list. Finally, when a game is finished, the list of words should distinguish between words successfully entered and those that were omitted. I would greatly like to see an update of this application.

Dictionary limited
Addictive game, but incomplete dictionary

one big issue, even at highest level, is that there are too many commonly used words not in the dictionary! Missing are too many words especially from the fields of biology and the sciences. I'm not talking about more obscure scientific terms, but animal species, body parts, and words known even by many grade schoolers that are in common usage and appear in regular dictionaries. There don't seem to be identifiable rules that are consistent in the contents of the game dictionary, which is really frustrating to advanced players. Some letters of the Greek alphabet are included, but not others. Many slang words are included, but not all in common use. Yet there are some words included that most English majors have probably never heard or seen used, and that do not appear in many dictionaries in common use. I'm getting increasingly frustrated by the poor word list and may just give up on this one for that reason.

I would give this one an easy 5 stars if the dictionary were upgraded, however!

My Favorite
I keep coming back to play this game. It executes well. I play at level 7 and usually play to around 56 percent. It takes a while and my fingers are moving most of the time, which I like. I would like a button to be able to scramble instead of having to shake the iPad. I will play this game for as long as I own this iPad.

Months later and I report that I am still hooked on this game. On level 6 I now am getting to 70% regularly. I simply love everything about thi game, and play everyday. Thank you for the button to scramble on iPad. Next step is some sort of stats, high score. Don't know what just yet, so I'll just keep playing.

Getting to 70%is proving to be hard. 65% now makes feel like a winner.
Twinkle Fingers,
Great App! Challenging anagram game!
I've always enjoyed anagram games since childhood. I particularly like this one for the following reasons:
(1) There is no time limit.
(2) You can choose a level of play; e.g., level 3 is only 'normal' words, - no fancy old English, or words you've never heard of in your whole life. You should know every one of the words at that level. (I've yet to score 100%, but I've come close, and groan at the easy words I missed.) Other anagram games have many of those words that you have never seen or heard before and it just becomes a wild guessing game, making up words. There are 6 levels in this game, and I'm sure level 6 recognizes all those obscure words if that's what you like.

Some changes I would like to see:
(1) A shake BUTTON. (My arthritic wrists have a bit of trouble shaking my iPhone.)
(2) Some kind of record keeping, - maybe the word, the date and the the percentage of the words you found in it.

I've been playing this one for weeks and am sure it will be my favorite word game for a very long time. Thanks for a great game!
GrumpyDave,
Good game with one flaw
I've tried several games of this style. Worder is decent but it has one significant difference from most others; the words don't need to be created from contiguous letters on the board. The downside is that this dramatically increases the number of words for a given board which leads to my one main complaint about Worder. It becomes difficult to remember and manage which words I've played after about 40-60 words. By using non-contiguous letters Worder allows way too many words per game, often 150+. The games get too tedious by 80 words or so and I usually just give up.

Worder isn't a bad game. The interface is decent. I've seen better and worse. The gameplay is good. If there just weren't so many word combinations per game due to the non-contiguous use of letters I'd play it more often.
StellaStot,
Potential Not Met
The game concept has potential but misses the boat in a few key ways. First, the instructions are lacking. There are several very legitimate words that won't be accepted because of the current "game level", but it's not clear why or how changing levels impacts the game. In fact, I tried one particular word with the game on every level and got the same response each time - legitimate word, in the game dictionary, but not accepted on this level. Why not?? Second, the dictionary is limited. Other games, such as Letterbug and Scramble have far more comprehensive dictionaries and didn't cost $1.99. Third, there should be a supplemental scoring system where, in addition to finding words (that the game will actually accept), points are scored for word length. Fourth, at $1.99, this app is twice the cost of any number of better apps. Not worth it IMHO.
maandusa,
latest update = FAIL
this has been my favorite app, second only to facebook, for so long... but this latest update is awful. after updating, I had to delete and reinstall the app because upon opening and selecting "resume game", the app crashed. i tried just creating a new game, in case it was just an error with the game I had going before I updated, but it still crashed if I quit the app during a new game and then tried to reopen it.

what I really hate, though, is the new
background. it's very hard on the eyes. might be better if the letter "tiles" in the game were less translucent, or if the background was more faded. but as it
is, it's making the game almost
unplayable for me.

i still love the concept of the game; i like it especially at night, to help me get to sleep. i guess it relaxes me. it's also a good "bathroom game" LOL! there have been problems with the dictionary from the beginning, but that has improved somewhat over time. still could use some work, but right now, the horrid background needs work first!

could also use a sleeker, mote aesthetic icon.

I will continue playing, just much less
frequently until the background is changed to something less distracting.
Appleseeding,
Updated game, with difficulty levels, is now EXCELLENT!
Thank you for the update, the game is now excellent. I don't know how you managed to control the difficulty level of word choices, but you've done it! We are on level 5 (out of 6) and the words are challenging but there's not a single obscure word (many games, including the two I mention next, have problems with words no one has ever heard or seen). My wife and I play this often, it's now our favorite word game, alongside of Wurdle (boggle) and Lexitron (anagrams).
Ros D,
Interesting, but lacks features
A very simple game app with a barebones interface. Some common terms do not appear or are in British form (litre instead of liter) but otherwise the gameplay is solid but unexceptional. The most fun, for me, is in seeing the path I took to certain words.

An essential addition for the next version would be letting the player know which words were missed after they forfeit and adding a hint button for when you have just a few you absolutely cannot figure out.
