A quick, easy to use, and comprehensive American English dictionary/thesaurus with 70 000 professionally recorded audio pronunciations. Best use of the technology of any dictionary
This dictionary makes better use of the ipad/iPhone capabilities than any other dictionary I have used (note that there are several other dictionaries that use this same engine with different content). This is the only one that passes the sole/soul test - it really does have a sounds like fuzzy search. It also lets you use wild cards in the search and you can limit the search to just nouns for example. It has good cross references to other similar or opposite words. It works well on the iphone and the iPad. It has useful options in the settings menu. It has cross references to external sites.
The dictionary engine is the best but the content is not as good as many of the established major publishers of paper dictionaries. It doesn't have word origins or usage notes.

The best dictionary app ever
I’ve been using variations of this developer’s dictionary apps for many years, even in the pre-iPhone days when it was only available as a n old-school PC app… It’s the best dictionary app I’ve ever found. The interface is simple and intuitive but also very powerful. The way all of the words are interlinked is terrific, as is the app’s ability to cross-reference other dictionary apps and online sources (including the option to add custom reference look-up sources).
The audio-pronunciation options and definitions are also solid, the dictionary database itself has a ton of words, and the app conveniently keeps a (clearable) log of all the words you’ve looked up.
I recommend purchasing the paid version of this app (although the free version is great too) along with the other dictionary apps the developer has worked on (for even closer cross-reference integration) if any of those are still available (Chambers and Oxford dictionaries and thesauruses were among the previous options) if you have much need for looking up words at all, as this developer is the longtime maestro of creating easy to use, uncluttered, fast-performing dictionary apps.

Need some work
Ejaculation: this is the second definition of ejaculation in your WordWebUS dictionary and it reads:
“The discharge of semen in males”.
It could read:
1. (Males discharge of semen
2. the discharge of semen by males
3. discharging of semen by males of the Species.
—-It should be rewritten because like me there are other males that don’t discharge our/their semen in other males.
That is the reason why Elohim made males and females of the species, for the two of them, male and female to come together to make (discharge of semen and the semen reaches the egg and a miracle take place)more of their kind(species)!!!

Poor app
I had this app for many years “paid version” it is inaccurate and definitions are misleading.

Just what I was looking for!
I was trying to buy a portable dictionary which could also speak the words. I kept reading reviews on those units, but almost every review said the pronunciaion overall, on most words was just so so, to not good. My wife was not born in the USA so really I wanted something for her..in particular to help her learn the proper pronunciation of many words.
Audio dictionary is EXCATLY what I was looking for..real people speaking correctly..not some Martain sounding computer voice mis pronouncing words as in those portable units. I suppose there may be better or bigger dictionaries around..but if you need help with pronunciation and want something that works easily, without needing an Internet connection, something that works VERY well..I am very impressed with this app. This is the first app I have ever reviewed here as I really feel it delivers what it promised..and at about $4.99 it's a steal..vs a $79 hand held portable with a robot voice. Well done!

This is my #1 tool for Learning Disabled students!
UNBELIEVABLE tool! It does what I bought a $200 device does for print disabled students! Explore it all, the wild cards for spelling help, being able to get adverbs and adjectives for writing, oh and being able to pronounce a word for a student who would have been to proud to ask before. It even keeps a history so USE it for vocab development. I can't say enough great things about this. It's the one app I have on all 400 of our iPods for all levels of students. Requires no wireless which is another bonus! All teachers and students with print disabilities needs this app!!!!!!!

I love it.
I've have this app for awhile along with the New Oxford American app (which belonged to WorldWeb before and it was only $4.99, Now it's not in the AppStore anymore but the app is still working very well.) there are cross-references on both of them, I can do link search back and forth which I'm been enjoying them. The app has all of features: phonetic & audio pronunciation, font adjustment ( up to 20PT), clear definitions with synonyms&antonyms , example sentences and much more than I need . Fast and fun search. I hope the WordWeb will have Medical Dictionary app in the future.

Works great for me
I don't know why all the negative reviews. Audio is working perfect on my iPhone 4s 64GB iOS5.1. Maybe some people have too much background app play (ie; news app, Skype app or other apps that use memory in background play). Most people don't know how to close background play in apps to speed up the phone. One can find this info in Safari under iPhone user guide. Search for background. This app and the Miriam-Webster paid version are the best apps.

Very impressive interactive dictionary
I am not a English native speaker. Sometimes, even the explanation is not understandable. This dictionary provides some asynomas are out of my volcaburary too. But when I click them, the explanation of this word will show up. It's so convineuce. I have bought three iPod touch dictionary. This is even better than the much more expensive ones.

Upon realizing later that my request has been already heard I was overjoyed. They have provided the option to type in a word search right away instead of having to always delete the previous entry first (and wait for it to be removed). I changed my one star rating input to five star.
